Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Allison Madueke, has joined the league of newspaper publishers in the country, with the introduction of a weekly title, ‘The Union’, DailyPost has learnt.

It was gathered that the paper has an all-gloss pullouts for its Entertainment, Sports, Fashion and Style sections.

A close insider hinted that the publication would kick off fully as from January 1, 2014, but at the moment, they are trying the market with a weekly publication, which covers every aspect of normal newspaper reportage.

It was also gathered that the newspaper operates from an office located in GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, while the former Managing Director of the Champion Newspaper, Emma Agu, is currently managing its operations.

Sources said reporters would be paid N250,000 monthly, while Editors will get about N500,000 per month.

DailyPost learnt that some journalists have been jostling to join the new publication, which kicks off fully January next year.

What is wrong in establishing a newspaper?

People will criticize the very act of breathing on this forum.

there's nothing wrong establishing a newspaper business. The problem is who is gonna be reading the newspaper when I can go online and get the latest news around the world. Its just a waste of time and resources.

Stop this beer parlour analysis. So why haven't Guardian, Punch, Observer, Vanguard and co folded up since ''everyone is now online''? Why are there even any mags at all or papers being sold on the streets, with more being introduced daily, like Hello! Magazine Nigeria... Fact is MILLIONS of folks still buy papers and mags with no intention of stopping, and there are still heavy profits to be made in the publishing business. Personally I buy papers, plus still go online. Both have their levels.

Who is even saying she won't make money from this..Mind you guys that money isn't made from sales of the paper but from adverts and sponsorship which she will get plenty of..
1)All the publications and adverts that will be done by the NNPC,her ministry and all the other ministries and agencies will be done on that newspaper
2)This paper will be giving even more current gist of things happening in Aso rock more than any body
3)Fight her and Jona's enemies
4)The billions of naira that was budgeted for newspapers by Aso rock..this paper will have the opportunity of being one of the few papers to benefit from it
5) All those birthday wishes and putting up her frog eyed faces by those a**-licking contractors will now be done via this paper
6)All the sales of oil block, employment adverts and call for bids by her ministry will be done via this paper..so if u re a contractor or u re looking for job in NNPC or ministry for petroleum better subscribe to the pay
7) If u re a business man and want to be patronised by the government..You have to advertise with this newspaper
So,who's that claiming that she isn't going to make money from it. And for the. Poster who says she is igbo..please when did Allison now become Igbo?..May be Bayelsa has become an igbo state..When an Igbo man claims Bayelsa is an igbo state you will be the first to say Igbos are claiming territory..Please do yourself a favour and go back to secondary and ask your geography teacher to teach you geography..

And how is it beer parlour analysis?
Especially for a newspaper that is going to be another propaganda outlet like Gbenga Daniel's Compass
How many NEW newspapers have survived and had a decent patronage to stay afloat? embarassed embarassed
The best of the lot based content and good journalism was 234Next and I believe you know what has happened to it
I recall Observer used to be everywhere on the streets of Lagos when growing up but I can't recall when last it was so readily available
The PUNCH, Guardian and Vanguard are about the best Nigerian newspapers and you mustn’t discard their staying power having learnt the ropes so long ago
Apart from the Leadership [which seems concentrated in Abuja] name any new Nigerian newspaper of late which is making a serious statement undecided undecided
Correct your MILLIONS of folks to HUNDREDs OF THOUSANDs regarding your circulation figures for Nigerian newspapers
Globally, newspaper circulation figures are dropping and Nigeria is not an oasis different from the rest
Even the globally acclaimed Newsweek had to cease physical printing and go totally online because the financials didn't add up
Our dear old Punch tested paying to access their content online and had to drop the ludicrous idea because their rivals esp Thisday had readers flocking there
The Internet might not totally eradicate print media but you must understand that is where many people source their information from esp for free in this age and time
