Please how do I go about wearing dreadlocks?

I had to cut my shoulder-length hair about 2 months ago because it had become weak from relaxers and heat. I now carry my hair very short (like a boy). I'm loving the look ( makes me standout). I really want to try dreadlocks (Tired of weaveons). How do I go about it?

Any dreadlock carrying sister in the house? Pls help!

First you two strand twist them and you can use a knitting needle to pull the hair through north, east, south, west they will create a beautiful pattern. if it is too short to twist just circle them around your finger. Cherish them at any length the pictures below took 6 years to grow so be patient. Wash and moisturize them frequently, coconut oil is great as well as Olive Oil.

Luv I will not lie to you and say its an easy journey. Its a very long journey to have at least shoulder length dreadlocks. Dreadlocks are permanent so be sure when you lock them
What I can advice u to do is
1 ) Keep your Afro-hair, braid your hair, or twist it for at least a year ( which are all undo-able ). Make sure that your hair line is well taken care of. Only then when your natural hair is long, you can start locking it. It makes the journey shorter, though for them to lock may take a couple of visits to your hairstylist. cheesy cheesy cheesy
2 ) Be patient eeehn !!!!( it can take up to two years ) cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy
3 ) The starting phase is no joke, your hair will look like the ejim blessing above ( no offence ) but its all worth it in the end smiley smiley smiley
4 ) Since the starting phase is no joke, its better to do your hair with a specialist who will neatly do them in rows and treat your hair and make sure that they are always conditioned and clean, to avoid people assuming alot of things about you and your hair ( weed smoker etc )
5 ) Do not do your hair at any Tom, Dick & Harry look for a reputable dreadlock specialist, who will understand your journey with you and advice you accordingly.
6 ) The styles are limitless for both short and long dreadlock. I am not sure where you are but in Nigeria, they are not yet good with locks and styling them as well ( no offence again)
7 ) I must say this again, locks need constant washing, conditioning and moisturising. Which I used to do on a weekly basis when they were still short and plait my locks after one week.
8 ) Remember to celebrate your journey by taking pics, its very encouraging wink wink wink wink wink

Mine are now way beyond shoulder length, and the nice put about them is that whenever you get tired you can cut them and keep them and later sew them back to your hair ( so its your own dreadlock weave-on cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy )

Good luck wink wink wink wink

See example of short dreadlocks styling.

You should start with two strand twist play around with size and spacing. When my hair was short I use to use Jerry Curl rods to create spring curls as they get longer you can still use the rods for a curly look. All the styles I posted are done with a tool which gives it a different look than palm rolled dreds

Number one stop putting that relaxer ASAP The easy way is to weave it aka corn roll or two strand twist it, see the Pic of the platted hair with chinelo SA. Have patience as your natural texture grows in, try not to put any heat or chemicals and use natural hair products like Olive Oil, Shea Butter, Coconut oil to detox your hair from chemical abuse. Use rollers and air dry your hair. It takes time!

d best way 2 kip dread is letting it form naturally or wat we cal d neglect method. jxt throw ur comb away. after a week(s) u'll begin 2 notice dreads forming gradually. No nid visiting a salon for special care jxt leave it organic
