i do not think millage matters that much. The main thing should be the state of the engine. embarassed FIY, ain't know shit about cars.

grin Just couldn't resist the FTC position.

it doesnt matter as long as the car is tested sound. we bought 2 cars in coutonuo 2 months ago, one higlander 2005 came with 220,000 and mini cooper 06 with 175,000 and these cars are as fresh as new. most clean cars we saw there are over 100k milleage i just dont how we get 30k on 1999 models of cars in 9ja.

Bro, I won't advice you to buy a car of 170,000 mileage when you can get a low mileage car here that is imported from US for the same price. Poverty has really made us to change the way we think in this country. That high mileage shows that engine has been well rocked for a long time. I wonder what still remains in the engine life?

Don't Gamble with your money bro; A white man will not buy a Car of that mileage because they have their reasons; we shouldn't turn our selves to third class citizens just because we want to own a car by all means. Please save more money and buy a low mileage car if you can't afford a BRAND NEW CAR.

I hope you understand.

My friend millage matters. But more importantly ask for the vin number that will enable you know the true state of that car. It might be an accident or salvaged car.

Car mileage is sometimes not a bigdeal. Car maintenance, how d car was used n car status shld be checked n considered.

Is it in 170,000Km or 170,000miles?

What year is the car? Assuming it is 10 years...that is about 17K/year average drive. Not bad. Find out where it was shipped from? Take a trusted mechanic for full inspection. Any visible wears and tears?

There are too many things you should be looking out for...so it becomes sort of a gamble. Your major concerns should be engine and
transmission. Anything else is manageable.

Bro sometimes mileage matter a lot but it also depends on the brand of car e.g M.Bz, Nissan, BMW. The aforementioned brands doesn't matter for mileage cos their engines are really strong and built to withstand Nigerian roads. But for the brand you mentioned i wouldn't advise you to go for it except you are ready to request the professional advise and check up of a certified auto engineer to check the status of the engine.

A quick advise on what to look for when buying a vehicle from Cotonou or anywhere:

The engine must be in condition

the body must also be in fantastic condition

Take your mechanic to assess the vehicle. Always take a specialist to do that

the mileage can always be adjusted using sophisticated software. So that does not matter. A car with less than a 100k mileage may be the in thing if only its on worldwide warranty.

Shocks. and other mechanical aspects should also be addressed.
Re: Is A Used Car Mileage Of 170,000 From Cotonou A Good One? by lightofjoy(m): 7:10pm On Nov 01, 2013
Considering mileage is good but the most important thing is the status of the car and how was it maintained. Some so call low mileage cars all over lagos have already have their mileage doctored. It is better you buy a car that you know the true state than to buy under deception. If the condition of the car is perfect, then go for it. Cheers.
