PANIC grips the Msiza family every night. They believe an evil creature torments them with nasty tricks. They’ve lived in terror since a relative’s death in 2001. In the 12 years since the death, their house in Windmill Park, Ekurhuleni, has been a living hell. The nightly horror starts with the creature waking everybody up with explosive bangs on the roof. Tau Msiza (33) said the creature is in his body, eating him up and talking to him in the voices of people he knows. He has been to doctors and had all sorts of tests, but nobody can say what’s wrong. “This creature pokes me with needles all over my body. Sometimes it feels like it’s pulling my veins,” Tau said. He also says he “can’t satisfy women because of this thing. It’s draining me!” And it goes with him in his car wherever he goes. “I can hear the sounds in my car when I drive,” he said. “I moved out of my house, but it follows me everywhere.” Tau can’t do hard labour as he’s always weak. And he must eat fruit all the time to satisfy the creature in his body. His niece Gugu (20) stopped school as she couldn’t concentrate. - Sangoma Mandla Mnqwazi said a mamlambo (mermaid) was sent to bring the family bad luck. “It is used by people from foreign countries.
