Hmmmm!! Life imprisonment for r|ape is rather harsh.. Maybe 15 years with hard labour.

R|ape happens for different reasons, none better than the next, but then again, the ultimate idea behind the law is first for 'Correction' before 'punitive'.

I will say life imprisonment for r|ape involving a minor because of the damage caused by such actions do last a life time for the girl so the molester should also be jailed for life.

But molesting and grown woman should carry lesser punishment. 10 - 15 years with hard labor is my call.

Death/life penalty for Corruption
Death penalty for muder
Death penalty for Treason
Life imprisonment for pea|dophilia
10 - 15 years imprisonment for r|ape involving a grown-up (18+)

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahhahaahahahahahahahahahahhaahhahaha!! The topic is so funny I can't stop laughing at the huge joke called Nigeria. I'm with them on this one but they should also seek the death penalty for corruption and looting of public funds.

so what will they enact as the punishment for corruption. or is that one too not a crime again? I felt the pain when a serving senator was asked recently what he did with all the money he collected for his constituency project - he struggled to explain that he built VIP toilets in 2 primary schools. shameful!

Good development. Cases of rape have become too much in this country. They have to enact the law now before it is too late. If you dnt agree with me then ur sister will be raped so that u know how far.

Very good law but i think those who kill people and marry underage girls in the name of religion deserve much penalty.
Re: Senators Seek Life Imprisonment For Rapists by soloyes(m): 10:53am On Nov 21, 2013
If u take statistics u will discover that it is for every 20 cases of corruption that u can be counting 1 or 2 cases of rape so if the senators are serious about the soul of naija they should first of all pass a bill to ensure life sentence or even death penalty for CORRUPTION before been concerned with other things. U see people been killed, maimed and suffering unnecessarily in prison while those who cause more pain (CORRUPT POLITICIANS and BIZMEN) walk the streets of naija freely.
Re: Senators Seek Life Imprisonment For Rapists by deelobe: 10:54am On Nov 21, 2013
the perpetrators need to be brought to book and I do agree with Chris Anyanwu that we need specialists in handling such matters. I speak as one who works in helping people who have been sexually abused. When caases come to us we hand the accused to the police and of course the victim. The statement is taking and most times the Police does not go to investigate whether the authenticity of the matter because of lack of funds in most cases. if any Oga at the top says its not true dont mind them. If you report a case in the police you pay for everything including paper to take your statement except you know one Oga.

Most of the cases end up not going to court until after a year or more and most are struck out because of lack of evidence. The judiciary has its own wahale the cases can be adjourned till the victims get tired and stop coming so justice does not come to them. I am pained by this especially when the victims are children the trauma of that act has a far and long effect of them. Social welfare and all the so called women bodies fighting for women rights are not left out. when you work with social welfare women's affairs will say so you now go to social welfare. Arenb't we working towards one goal to ensure that how society is face from the abuse of our children and women.

I hope somebody from the government is reading this. We you report the matter to the ogas who are mostly political appointees they wait till they leave officeand then the civil servants will blacklist you. It is a convoluted set up.

So many things have to be overhauled. To handle these matters ministry for Youth and social development should operate as an agency to avoid all the bureaucracy of handling matters. Files keep moving from table to table while lives are endangered.

In as much as I suppport stiffer punishment for Rape, what about stiffer one for any politician or minister found wanting for corruption, like total suspension etc,I think it will help the country, the lawmakers are always swinging fast into action that one that won't affect them..Rape?not that the don't rape oo,but too much money settles there own.

I support it all the way and they should be castrated as well and if the victim dies, the ra-pist should be sentenced to death.
