Driving to work this morning, I noticed that many drivers of vehicles, I drove past or that drove past me, adorned their dashboards with horse whips of various designs and colours.These whips were conspicuously displayed and it got me wondering their purpose. Are the meant to be used to flog other adults or are they meant to flog fellow adult drivers?
I think this is a carry over of the force mentality of the military era or what say you?

I've seen lots of military and Police vehicles driving against traffic and breaking all kinds of rules, Who is gonna whip them in shape and make them obey traffic rules?

So common and annoying, most esp here in the FCT, I entered a presumed Deeper life members car who may be a personnel of the FRSC and saw a horsewhip on his dashboard, I became angry, U need to see the way he confronted another road user for wrong driving, I felt really ashamed, being a force personnel doesn't warrant one being a bully, thereby constituting nuisance on the road.

Low self esteem

Doesn't make sense, that how you know the person behind the wheels is an illiterate.

It is an hausa-fulani trend. The thing most southerners dont realise is that our police, army, politicians, civil servants etc have unknowingly been overwhemly influenced by hausa-fulani cattle mentality. That is why a military man lacks empathy, a policeman or civil servant will stress u to death when u enter his trap.

Now compare that to banks and private sector run mostly by southerners. There is a much greater level of proffessionalism in the south-dominated private sector.

We are culturally being colonised by hausa...otherwise wat is the rationale of keeping a pain-inflicting object like horsewhipp in ur car.

Nigerians (due to legacies of the hausa-dominated military regimes) now lack empathy.

It's a warning to other drivers, pedestrians and touts that you or the owner of the vehicle belong to the armed forces and they shouldnt mess with you.

It's a signal to the police that they should count you out of who they are to extort.

Foolish people with low self esteem! They put everything on their dashboard...horse whip, cap, dirty looking bibles, rosary etc. I don’t get it, do people have sense at all??

Well, this is Nigeria where Might is Right seems to be the rule.
To assert your 'might' then you have to flaunt it.
Intimidation becomes an important part of the above.

Some drivers behave like animals to be frank. They tend to endanger both their lives and other poor drivers lives. The whip is a symbol of "If you carry your madness come my side, I'll cure the madness 'saba-cele style' #whip".

Might cannot be right in the 21st century. Unfortunately, that's is the situation we find ourselves in this country. No thanks to the political office holders like govenors who give blank cheque to touts in the NURTW to go on and misbehave on the roads. It's a sign of a total breakdown of rule of law.

My dad actually has one on his dashboard and it has been there for as long as I remember. He has never been a member of the armed forces nor has he had the training. I don't know the reason why it's there but I consider it as senseless to have something you don't use around.
I know only women to behave like that. Buying unnecessary things. If he dare try to use that shit on me for any reason, I don't give a damn. I'm outta that house.

Carried over mentality from military era

Its a sign of intolerance ,but then sharing the roads with road traffic illiterates,eg ,fulani,hausa people ,truckpusher,motorcyclist,commercial bus drivers ,
going by traffic standard,they will be at traffic wrong and flexing muscle ,meets with many here in bariga ,lagos ,and will be ready to fight,knowing that his fellow cow brethren will stop by to his defense

This reminds me of a scenario, a bus driver wanted to whip a tout, the tout held his hand before he even thought of taking the whip. The struggle was real, it was an embarrassing moment because the bus driver didn't expect the tout would do that.


It was a funnily insane scene. What in God's name would make you think of whipping another adult,even kids would resist not to talk of a full grown adult like you.
