Just needed to clarify and hear others contributions,Does a student working in the uk under 20 hrs get taxed on the this number of hours.Am sure of the fact that if a student works more than 20 hours per week,such will be taxed but I just want to know if one works less than or exactly 20 hrs per week will the student also pay tax on that?!

You have to pay tax once you earn more than the tax free personal allowance rate of £5225 in the tax year 2007-2008 regardless of the fact that you are a student or not. That figure would have slightly increased by April 2008.

It totally depends on what you are paid

If you work ten hours and you are paid £100 an hr, u wld exceed the free-maximum-untaxable amount (which is around £5300)

And therefore u would be taxed for any amount exceeding the figure above

If you work 20hrs and the tax calculation system realised u wont exceed the free untaxable allowance, u wont be taxed but NI may come off!!!
