The website of Konga, one of the leading online retailers in Nigeria, crashed on Black Friday, right at the start of its Fall Yakata Sales promo expected to last for 84 hours from 9am today.

AT 9:45AM – Konga tweeted: “We are deeply sorry for delay & technical glitch. This is due to the massive traffic we received. The SALE will be LIVE soon.”

THEN at 11:33AM – Konga said in an email that it has increased its website capacity to more than double of the current capacity and also created an alternative way for people to shop by putting up “SALE” tag on products that will be on sale.

The company announced earlier this week that it would be offering Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals on its online store from Friday, November 29 (9am) to Monday, December 2 (9pm).

During this period, consumers who purchase products on its site would be making massive savings on items across all categories including electronics, gadgets and clothing.

However, the site could not live up to the hype its marketing team had created over the past few days and thus fell ‘yakata’ (pun intended) due to the traffic surge experienced.

When Techloy reached out to the company, a rep told us that its servers suffered the biggest traffic ever, hence the crash, but they were working to get the site back up soon.

Meanwhile, Konga’s major rival, JUMIA announced that it would also be doing Black Friday sales from November 28 to December 2, offering up to 85% discount on items.

Already, some items like the Sony PS3 God of War 3 game on its site have sold out, while other deals like the Blackberry Q10 (at 22% off) and the Sony PS3 12GB Console at 50% off.

According to Konga the Much talked about Tecno Phantom A+ Phone To Be Sold For 19,000 will be available on Sales during the Cyber Monday Discounts.It is expected that a lot of intending buyers will be getting ready to purchase the Techno Phantom A+ so as to avoid any disappointment that came with the PS4 console.
