A cobbler who lives in Ikotun area of Lagos reportedly threw away his newly born baby boy in a canal. He has two girls from the same wife and this baby happens to be his first son.

As at yesterday, he was complaining seriously of how the baby has made him broke. The wife had come to his workshop to empty his pocket leaving him with nothing after a long hard day.

Reports getting to us indicates that the cobbler, his wife and 2 children lives in abject penury. He could neither afford to send them to school nor complete their three meals per day. He was left fraustrated and was in tears when he got the news that his wife had delivered a baby boy. His tears were not of joy but of anguish and angst.

However, people in the neighbourhood are strongly against his action. Some of them said they could have offered to help if he had confided in them. Many of them in tears as they narrate the story to us.
