I like this:
c0llynz02: GEJ gave OBJ some serious bashing in this letter.
.
1 I am most uneasy about embarking
on this unprecedented and unconventional form of open communication between me and a former leader of our country because I know that there are more acceptable and dignified means of doing so.

.
2 The eighth reason is that it appears that your letter was designed to incite Nigerians from other geopolitical zones against me and also calculated to promote ethnic disharmony. Worse still, your letter was designed to instigate members of our Party, the PDP, against me.
.

3 My Administration is working assiduously to overcome current national security challenges, the seeds of which were sown under previous administrations.
.
4 Having done all this and more, it is interesting that you still accuse me of not acting on your hardly original recommendation that the carrot and stick option be deployed to solve the Boko Haram
problem.

.
5 If the invasion of Odi by the Army was the stick, I did not see the corresponding carrot. I was the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State then, and as I have always told you, the invasion of Odi did not solve any militancy problem but, to some extent, escalated it.
.
6 (third term through the back door)
Here in Abuja, a petrol tanker loaded with explosives was to be rammed into the
INEC building. But luckily for the country, an electric pole stopped the tanker from hitting the INEC building. It is clear that this incident was meant to exploit the general sense of insecurity in the nation at the time to achieve the aim of stopping the 2007 elections.

.
7 it is just as well to remind you that the first major case of kidnapping for ransom took place around 2006. And the Boko Haram crisis dates back to 2002. Goodluck Jonathan was not the President of the country then. Also, armed robbery started in this country immediately after the civil war and since then, it has been a problem to all succeeding governments. For a former Head of Government, who should know better, to presen these problems as if they were creations of the Jonathan Administration is most uncharitable.
.
8 (Truth)
The allegation of training snipers to assassinate political opponents is particularly incomprehensible to me. Since I started my political career as a Deputy Governor, I have never been associated with any form of political violence. I have been a President for over three years now, with a lot of challenges and opposition mainly from the high and mighty. There have certainly been cases of political assassination since the advent of our Fourth Republic, but as you well know, none of them occurred under my leadership.
.
9 (we all knew this, didn't we?)
Baba, let us all be truthful to ourselves, God and posterity. At the heart of all the current troubles in our party and the larger polity is the unbridled jostling and positioning for personal or group advantage ahead of the 2015 general elections.

In all of OBJ's accusations I was looking forward to how the President will respond to the Missing 50Billion dollars claim and also the watchlist/snipers allegation.
50 billion we all know the story now of which the very competent Banker of the Government/whistleblower has eaten his words.
The Sniper allegation the President has asked us to look at his antecedent since as a politician, no percieved enemy has ever been assasinated!! Infact based on this allegation the. Relevant agencies have been put on alert to forestall any attempt to capitalize on this accusation and start assasinating. Unfortunately we can't say the same for previous administrations.

For me its this is an appropraite response until OBJ can provide evidences.

lorddeni: Seriously though, just how clueless, or maybe blindly sentimental, are some of you guys.

It was a Friday morning-these were young soldiers under 40 with the odd fortune of running a country of tens of millions. You think they were at thier desks by 7a.m. poring over their many developmental plans for the country Seriously ketty If Muritala, who was famed for being a stand-up, no-nonsense officer was on his way to his office as at the time he was killed, how can you then purport that by Obj, a self-acknowledged man of many deficiencies, not being in his office early means he must have been an accomplice. Perhaps you need to see beyond your nose and familiarize yourself with the story of the driver who smuggled Obj out of his official residence or tales of TY Danjuma himself of Obj being so distraught after the coup and how the man just wanted to retire and go home to snap yourself out of your delusions.

Now contrast that with an Ironsi, after the Jan. '66 coup got foiled. Your boy demanded to have power handed over to him even after the existing political structure at the time had survived unparalleled mortal blows to manage to throw up Bukar Dipcharima as Balewa's successor. He then proceeded to puzzlingly send the coupists to the East in such a divided and tensed nation, refused to promptly try or execute them as requested by northern officers and leaders, failed to clamp down swiftly on insanely provocative statements, pictures or songs about our assassinated leaders which led to the pogrom and then declared a unitary state we've never recovered from till date.

That's right for those who do not know about history- the battle for resource control actually has its roots in Ironsi's missteps, not someone of the much-maligned Hausa/Fulani stock. Because it meant that every other government that came after realising the enormously concentrated resources at the centre simply became unwilling to divest resources to the source federating units. For me, personally, Aguiyi-Ironsi is the worst leader this country has ever been saddled with because while you can point to at least one significant positive thing every other administration has done for this country-including clueless GEJ, Ironsi's was a series of incredible missteps which sadly led to the subsequent most unfortunate events of the late '60s

Below is the fibble reasons given by Obasanjo for going to work late under a disciplined head of state like murtala mohammed and a time other generals were already sitted in office for the day
General Olusegun Obasanjo (rtd) has written that he was late in leaving home that day on account of a visit by Brigadier Olu Bajowa to get a name for his new baby. When it became apparent that there was trouble, Obasanjo executed an escape and evasion manoeuvre, spent most of the day at the house of a civilian friend in Ikoyi monitoring the situation by telephone, but later emerged to become the Head of State. His would be assassins mistook then Colonel Dumuje for him along Awolowo road in Lagos, seriously wounding that officer.

These happened at a time when telephones were in the country and for a little task that could have been done over a phone conversation, who is trying to deceive who, even a nursery school kid would detect this bare faced lie and the intriguing motives behind it. Would Olu Bajowa be going to Obasanjo for a name for his baby so early on Friday morning while Obasanjo boss was supposed to be in his office, is Obasanjo related to olu Bajowa , could not olu Bajowa had visited Obasanjo in office to get the naming for the baby, since when did naming become so important that it would delay the chief of staff from resuming in office on time.
No wonder the chicken farmer thinks he can deceive nigerians and get away with it, any body who believes this can believe anything else.

yibomustgo: Jonathan did not address Obsanjo's allegations. What he has done is to just repeat the allegations and denied doing them. He tried to give Obsanjo some body shots while doing it. I don't see this a good response to what Obasanjo asked in his letter.

Jonathan failed to address the corruption allegations i.e Stellah Oduah and co....

Jonathan failed to address his talk about only Ibos voted for him and Ibos being his backbone....

Jonathan failed to address the allegation of Al-Mustapha release....

Jonathan failed to address the insecurity questions in the country....

Jonathan failed to answer the question of supporting opposition parties with the promise that they support him for re-election...

Jonathan failed to address the problem he caused in Rivers State as sitting Governor, Amaechi is being humiliated by police and GEJ loyalists...

Jonathan has failed to address the allegation of weapons being shipped to Enugu and not the rest of the country.......

There are more questions to be answered.
how do you address an unaccepted allegation? I is easier 2 deny dan to address. For instance: address to us that you dint kill mandela.

One thing I am not able to comprehend in all these mish
mash generated by this letter is that, how does it affect
the average Nigerian, we are here talking about the
winners and losers of the whole drama, while the
Nigerian kid will wake up this morning, and roam the
street hungry, there is more to Nigeria than a letter. OBJ
raised valid points and if not for the fact that his hands
are not clean, GEJ knows he has failed. He is only trying
to say that he did not do more atrocities than those
before him.
So you all should shut your mouth and see the need for
change. Nigeria is too big to be put in the hands of Daft
people. We are just too big to fail

[size=15pt]We need to get serious in this country!
The same group of men have been murdering every Nigerian who dares to change the system and they cover it up so well, that we believe their sugar coated lies!

Obasanjo should write another open letter and describe in detail what he knows about the death of our Head of State Murtala Mohammed. He should also tell us why INEC Headquarters was suddenly bombed when he was seeking his 3rd term agenda. Iyabo recently alluded to the fact that her father was prepared to kill or do whatever it took to stay in office illegally for a 3rd term. Who swept all these murders and rampant acts of destruction under the rug just like that.
Also, i want to know who had the guts to try to kill GEJ in 2007 and even bombed his country home, even when he was a State Governor! All these acts of rascality and rampant murder of political opponents have got out of hand and we demand answers from Obasanjo!

Obasanjo has a sound mind and matured one for that matter when being interviewed.
he is so confident, he finds time to be comic.

Jonathan will rather smile with that cartoon looking nostril, or put his hand in his pocket when talking to elders all because a camera is about to snap him and would be uploaded to nairaland.
You sound as if mr President's letter is grinding your heart. I know you are refering to the kenya pis, It was made to tell Obasanjo who is boss and secondly to avoid a killer handshake.

.:
The scope and impact of terrorist operations have been significantly reduced

Epic Lie!!!!
How does transition from street and checkpoint bombing, to overruning military and police barracks, and Air Force bases, constitute a reduction in scope and impact

Mr president, I put it to you, if they now have the capability to overrun such facilities, that constitutes an escalation of the crises as they now pose an existential threat to this country.

.:
And while some elements of the problem may still be there, in general, the situation is reasonably better

And this is so not because of any deliberate effort on your part to CURB the menace, but because they sympathise with you as one of their own. As a matter of fact, the effort you made deliberately, seems to have ramped up the activities of bunkering and oil theft. #tompolo contract.

.:
We have reorganized the Nigerian Police Force and appointed a more dynamic leadership to oversee its affairs. We have also improved its manpower levels as well as funding, training and logistical support.

Regarding manpower, maybe yes. For the other items, I think your messengers have been lying to you.

.:
... provided its air-wing
with thrice the number of helicopters it had before
the inception of the present administration.

And what have these choppers been used for? Crime fighting or transportation of VIPs

.:
Nevertheless, I have directed the security agencies and requested the National Human Rights Commission to carry out a thorough
investigation of these criminal allegations and
make their findings public.

Na today?? When making what you own public is something you have sworn never to do, you wanna make us believe if the findings of such an investigation (if indeed such is ongoing) would, even if it indicts you and your cronies.

.:
The seed of corruption in this country was planted a long time ago...

And you sir have watered, fertilized, and nurtured that seed into a monstrous tree!!

.:
I will not shield any government official or private individual involved in corruption, but I must follow due process in all that I do. And
whenever clear cases of corruption or fraud have
been established, my administration has always
taken prompt action in keeping with the dictates
of extant laws and procedures.

Is this a typo or he really did say this

.:
If I made such a request, why would I deny it?

Because it is very typical of politicians to do so.

.:
I do not even impose Party
officials in my home state of Bayelsa

Haba Oga!!! Forgotten so soon about Sylva and Dickson

.:
Kindly note also that in the seven years between 2000 and 2007 when you were President, Nigeria attracted a total of $24.9 Billion in FDI. As a resultof our efforts which you disparage, the country has seen an FDI inflow of $25.7 Billion in just three years.

Only the gullible will not see that the president is trying to be smart here. The purchasing power of a dollar then is not thesame as now. In terms of value, $1 in year 2000 could buy threefolds what it can buy today.

.:
For your information, NNPC
has not withdrawn from either the Olokola or the
Brass LNG projects.

Another way to say "it is dead, but not yet buried". For how long is the project going to remain dormant

On a final note, this is a very poor letter Mr Reuben Abati. I guess the president wouldave requested some lines be expunged if he had read through it before publication!

@kettykin I have no idea what you specialise in but by the gawd I hope it's not office ethics,

So, in your own warped and obviously biased mind and in light of my last post which you quoted as well as every sense of military decorum, the appropriate thing for a junior officer to do is to go and meet his superior in his office to ask for a name for his child. This was the military politics of the 70s-90s, every junior officer wanted to be first in the good books of a superior for assured career advancement or how do you think the tags- IBB boys, Abacha boys, Diya boys came about mister.

And to borrow popular parlance now, famzing your superior through methods like asking him to name your child was just a career survival tactic back then. Perhaps you are not famiiliar with Al-Mustapha's falling out with Abacha in the very early 90s because he married an older lady Sani did not approve of before Mustapha warmed his way back into the Abacha circles during the Abacha regime. It was the reality of the politicization of our military.

I am also surprised people like you also fail to acknowledge the likes of Obasanjo & Danjuma were actually earmarked for assassination by the coupists own confessions. Bet by your logic and jona's, by Danjuma also not getting killed, he was also in on the conspiracy of the 'corrupt' generals earmarked for dismissal by the conveniently 'saintly' Muritala right. Coups don't just happen because bloody civillians like GEJ allude silly reasons for them four decades after. They are ultimately about strategic dominance and I still do not know how you figure the course of the likes of Dimka, Bisalla & allegedly Gowon aligned with that of Obj & Danjuma at that point in time kittykin.

What was the basis for the interests of a Bisalla who felt slighted by his peers getting promoted above himself with rumours of his impending sack as Chief of Defence Staff and eventual retirement aligning with the likes of Obj & Danjuma, who along with Muritala as colleagues and buddies, had formed a 'cabal' so to say, with a stated hand-over date of 1979. And perhaps you might answer why at all the public trials of the coupists then, not one mention was made of this conspiracy, now cooked up by the then shoeless teen of Otuoke, by the men on death row. Not even the slightest hint a la 'I am just a patsy' from Jack Oswald of the JFK assassination infamy.

If the coup had been by OBJ's boys like Bajowa,Olurin & co, or even at least his kinsmen officers and he failed to take them out like Ironsi, then you could make your case or rather Jona's case. Otherwise, and this is the reality, the president is grasping at straws here and you, hopelessly, are cheering him on all while exposing the lack of a definite & clearly logical sense of history by your ilk.

kettykin:

For those saying he did not address the issues raised by Obj, please, stop advertising your ignorance and mischief. You will know GEJ is lying when he denies everything in OBJs letter, not even accepting that he was right in more ways than one! Some people may be deceived or blinded by tribal allegiances but every neutral mind will accept that while OBJs letter may be heavy with a lot of questions and speculations, for GEJ to discount everything in that letter or find ways to hit back while pretending to be on a higher ground will not fly for long. Sooner than later he might find big regrets in his pontificating and sanctimonious lie of a letter.

Sorry to say, GEJ is not that intelligent to personally put this up though kudos to his team for a good job. Nevertheless, I am not taken in by all the garbage here. Stillblessing: Whether or not GEJ wrote this missive himself or with the help of Abati as some are claiming, either case attests to the fact that the man is highly intelligent. Because in either case all the ideas must have arisen from him. This a good way of responding an old fool.

I don't understand why people say that GEJ didn't write the letter himself. Most presidents don't write their speeches. Do they think Barak Obama prepares all his speeches ?? And OBJ doesn't do same too.

I wish GEJ could be more strict on corruption. I wish he could probe OBJ for the fraud he committed while in office. That's what we want to see. Some action. Really speaking, OBJ has committed a lot of crimes during his term as a president.

Obasanjo has been beaten at his own game of dog-chop-dog by the son of an ordinary fisherman, his ungentlemanly letter to GEJ was borne out of greed and crass insincerity against GEJ whom he wanted to hang by labeling him a bad dog and Nigerians a he has over years became emboldened in manipulating them.

Having relegated to the background of South West's politics by another smarter criminal from the same region, rubbished by his own children, roundly rejected by Nigerians from the North(Hausa/Fulani),The South South people who later forgave him for installing GEJ but now discredited as Odi comes to mind including this open suicide called letter, the South East and even his home town; The Great OBASANJO IS DOWN .

There are more questions to be answered.

[quote author=Kairoseki77]This exchange of letters between 2 CORRUPT thugs is not only nauseating but very embarrassing. It is very convenient for these two anuofias to write to one another when neither of the dimwits can communicate properly in English.

Dr Jonathan and General Obamumu cannot teach English at nursery level, they cannot coherently express themselves in interviews or during Presidential Chats but suddenly they are grammarians when exchanging letters undecided undecided

They hire hungry morons to write a meaningless tirade of "cow feces" and impressionable Nigerians will take such maga maga letters at face value and salivate on the rubbish in it. Nigerians are the easiest tools to rule over- very sheepish and easily controllable. They can endure all sorts of maltreatment and are generally worshipful.

Nigerians deserve the leaders they have- simples! I hate to see some imbeciles like you insult Nigerians collectively and the foolish ones go ahead to like your post, maybe because there is no 'Dislike' botton.how can you say Nigerians are sheepish,do you include late Gani Fawehinmi, wole soyinka and other public crusaders?you must be operating on only 2% of ur brain cells or practicaly existing in an isolated cave. You also said GEJ and OBJ cant teach english at nursery level, did they claim to be english teachers?i think you are even worst in grammar for you to say the letter was written by a 'slowpoke',its obvious you dnt knw the meaning of slowpoke.change your thinking numbskull,Nigerians are better than you think

s3nn2x: See how old men are ranting like pregnant virgins.

Obasanjo is not in the right position to question GEJ's leadership because he was not better.

GEJ's response is disappointing and empty.
I expected something thrilling. GEJ fell my hand as usual.

Both men can go to hell for all I care.

Our leaders have failed us.

I am even surprised that the so-called progressives now consider Obasanjo as a father of democracy.

Nigeria has suffered.

When are we going to get it right?

The party that people are hoping will bring change is no different from other parties.

So you want him to cause problems

@All of you saying you see Abati's signature all over the reply are so unbelievable.
Have you lot ever been Bosses before? Even a common Chairman of a company don't sit down to write letters, what is the Secretary employed for? To clean his shoes?
I wonder why you lot did not call who wrote OBJ's letter or you believe Baba sat down to write that 18-paged letter? Chai! Ignorance is bliss cheesy cheesy

This just cleared the doubt that 80% here are either in secondary schools or undergraduates to reason such, even as an undergraduate SUG official, I don't write letters talk more a sitting president. He is jobless if he attempts to do that!

This is how it goes:
1. You tell your media officer what you want in a letter and who to address it to.
2. Media officer writes the letter and present to you.
3. You read and make corrections where necessary. Not necessarily grammer correction but making sure your message is being passed properly as you have in mind.
4. Media officer makes the final draft and dispatches the letter.

That is being a Boss and not writing some undergraduate love letters. Ndi ara angry angry

GEJ just gave it slow and deadly in a very formal and diplomatic way.
OBJ is dying slowly politically.

GEJ didn't write that Letter its the Handwork of Abati, Okupe and that Old dirty Man Clark .I will never forget that CNN interview that GEJ couldn't express himself .The reply didn't adress the issues Obasanjo raised .
