ladies and gents, i went home recently and i witnessed a scene that almost made me puke. one of our neighbors choosed to beat up his wife because she talked back at him. i was boiling to call the police but i remembered that i was in Nigeria where the men ruled. it will take the police 24 hrs to come to the scene. am not trying to bash the men though, but it is not right. what do you think about this. is it the women's fault, or is it african romance? whatz your take on this? i just want to know what you think. women/men, would you marry a someone that hits you? is it okay to be hit by someone? |

I don't think it's something that's limited to Nigerian men alone. It's a sad subject though. Attitudes towards these kind of things are gradually changing (at least i hope) I doubt women from the younger generation would tolerate this sort of thing when they get married (again, I hope). |

prince, my bad. am sure will change the topic though. i value your concerns. it happens everywhere u go to but it is rampant in Nigeria. am not saying that every Nigerian men hit their women but u know for a fact it happens. in Nigerian movies,it seems like it is an acceptable thing,am sure they didnt mean it that way. 1 Like |

exactly my point. any kind of abuse should never be acceptable. i also realized that some women abuse their men too. especially if the woman is taller and stronger than the man, as well as being the bread winner in the house. they know that the men are too ashame to talk about the abuse. any kind of abuse is never ok. |

kryptix: ladies and gents, You have asked a broad question....however because you were specific in location and ethnicity...I would say that it is common in Nigeria to beat your wives. However....it is not limited to Nigerian men but to men in general. For many reasons domestic violence is rising and what can you do when the very person abused tells you to mind your business? Sometimes the best thing you can do is walk away and pray that the chick live to gain common sense to leave her abusive husband. |

OP you're so naive its painful! Judging from the idiotic comments Naijans,at least the forumers in here are equally ill equipped with life experience. Men,reasonable men,not the gays in romance novels and on TV expect only 2 things from women: -she will do what she's told -she will catch the sausage properly HOW DIFFICULT IS THAT!!? Seriously! When a man finds out she won't fulfill these 2 basic roles and goes out of her way to ishtalk,there will be consequences. Even oyinbos,contrary to cultural programming check their byatches in these situations. |

In my own opinion, I think its bad for a man to hit a woman but we women should be cautioned too; a man is a man, we shouldn't go to the extreme to provoke a man. Most times it takes the grace and fear of God for a man to overlook such provocation. |

I have hit women before, not even going to Lie. When i was 19 looking back i actually felt i was abusive to her. Crazy Times Man I think it's disgusting for anyone to Bully someone physically weaker than Them. I had my mad man Moments I can recall pulling a "Chad" and headbutting my ex in the mouth 3 times till her mouth Bled Crazy, I think i am Bipolar or something. I should have been thrown in Jail. |
