and taking an African name. My name is a "slavery" name. After researching my last name - it came from a White Slave owner originated from England/german. When people meet me in person, they are shocked because my name and my color/feature does not match. I am searching the Internet to find a name but I need one that has a "strong meaning"

Re: I Am Seriously Thinking About Changing My Slavery Name by onyinye2(f): 2:22am On Sep 06, 2008
So are you trying to be like Malcolm X or something? If you do pick and African name. . . . don't go and get some Zulu name or something. Especially if you can't answer questions about it.

@ony: I'll keep that in mind

*** Please note I am very serious about this

I take it you are Yoruba if you have a 'slavery' name. Either from Lagos, Abeokuta or Ilesa, so we should be looking at a nice Yoruba name for you - what do you think?

Olanna is a great name

Also, Eseosa.
Re: I Am Seriously Thinking About Changing My Slavery Name by Nobody: 5:58pm On Sep 06, 2008
They are all female names.

Kosenitoluwa- No one is God, or no one can be God

OreOluwa- Means two things, depends on how it's pronounced. "Blessing of God" or "Friend of God"

Just get yourself an English name like Jessica, Brittney, etc.
Re: I Am Seriously Thinking About Changing My Slavery Name by debosky(m): 8:34pm On Sep 06, 2008
She wants to change a slave name and someone suggests Jessica

Those names sound great, but I think you should put a little more thought into them - what country/tribe do you want to be associated with?

Names tend to be linked to their national/tribal origins so I would assume that would be something you would want to consider before just choosing a name.

SeanT21:

OKay. Are You going to tell us the slavery name?
My mother is white (european) but was born in the caribbean. Need I say more?
My brother is staying with me (father side) He thinks I am stuck_up because I told him he should eat with a spoon rather his hands. I cooked a lovely dinner and he was using his hands to eat. I said" i don't like to see you eat like that" Boy he told me off. . .in my own house. but i felt hurt when he said "you white people" He is very rude and disrespectful to me in my own house. Thank God its raining so I don't have to show him around today.. His mother is in Nigeria. Like my father they both very secretive. Still can't get a good answer, why I can't go to Nigeria and stay with my father's family.

Like i said before my father has wife or wives in Nigeria hence the secret.

Little things like this turn me off from dating a Nigerian
Re: I Am Seriously Thinking About Changing My Slavery Name by Seun(m): 3:53pm On Sep 09, 2008
Why is your brother staying with you if you don't want him to stay with you?
Re: I Am Seriously Thinking About Changing My Slavery Name by Cayon(f): 4:10pm On Sep 09, 2008
I don't know seun. He sounded nice over the phone but inperson he is very "bossy" Had i known, i would have never let him vacation at my house
Re: I Am Seriously Thinking About Changing My Slavery Name by Cayon(f): 4:44pm On Sep 09, 2008
The truth is he is older than me and I don't want to be rude and disrespectful to him
Re: I Am Seriously Thinking About Changing My Slavery Name by UNLEASHED(m): 5:21pm On Sep 09, 2008
I recommend "Oreoluwa" A very nice name!
Re: I Am Seriously Thinking About Changing My Slavery Name by JustGood(m): 10:28am On Sep 10, 2008
so you think because you are hosting your own brother gives you a right to tell him how to eat. Please keep your house to yourself or did your brother tell you he lives on the streets where he came from? all you hung up people always feel that if you do a favour you have the right to control the other person's life
Re: I Am Seriously Thinking About Changing My Slavery Name by JustGood(m): 10:29am On Sep 10, 2008
you had better take a name like MODUPEOLUWA so you can start thanking God that He gave you life and whatever it is you think you have
