Newcastle United, Liverpool Battle For Alli

Newcastle United are hoping to clinch the signing of MK Dons midfielder Dele Alli ahead of English Premier League rivals Liverpool.

According to the Daily Mail, the 18-year-old is expected to call time on his stint with The Dons in
the January transfer window after seven years at the Stadium MK.

But it is unclear where he will play next, with earlier reports suggesting that Liverpool were in pole position for his signature.

Newcastle United manager, Alan Pardew, is in the market for a central midfielder, and has beamed his searchlight on Dele Alli.

In the race for the services of the England youth international, the Magpies face competition from Liverpool and Brentford.

The Anglo-Nigerian extended his contract with MK Dons in September, penning a new deal that ties him to the club until the summer of 2017.

Dele Alli has averaged 0.5 goals per game in League One for promotion chasing MK Dons since the season started.

Iheanacho Regarded Highly By Pellegrini

Manchester City are confident Nigeria youth international Kelechi Iheanacho will be issued a work permit.

And the English Premier League moneybags have stressed that the highly rated starlet is part of coach Manuel Pellegrini's plans.

Kelechi Iheanacho is highly regarded by manager Manuel Pellegrini, so much so that he was allowed to train with the Argentina National Team before the friendly with Portugal last month.

“Kelechi Iheanacho has been in England training with the first team of Manchester City,” a source told SL10.ng.

“When Argentina met Portugal in November, the Argentina national team trained with a shadow eleven, not the regulars you see on television, and Iheanacho was among those selected.”

With no caps for the Super Eagles, the 18-year-old's future at the Etihad Stadium is hanging in the balance due to red tape, but the Citizens are hoping to invoke the Premier League special talent clause to complete the transfer.

“We are optimistic that Iheanacho will get a work permit, that is what everyone is looking forward to. He should be able to prove his mettle and break into the first team,” added the source.

“Manuel Pellegrini wants him which is important.

“He has to be considered as a special talent to get a work permit. Man City are not prepared to loan him to another team.

“They don't have a Plan A, B or C for Iheanacho. The club want him.”

Iheanacho, who has been called up to the Nigeria Under 23s, has been linked with New York City and KV Mechelen in the last few months.

We have to do what we can. We have African teams that have good young squads. Regular friendlies with these teams will give our young talents the exposure. When the team is ready, a European tour could be done. The European U21 competition will soon kick off. Manny of the European teams preparing for the competition will accept to play friendly games against our team. Especially, knowing they are going to be playing the team that won the last U17.

Before trying to organize our youth football, we need to take action to get our young stars, local and foreign who are ready to serve the nation exposed and playing.
apart from Ghana and Nigeria I can't identify any other African country with strong age grade teams. Though CIV comes into play atimes, Nigeria and Ghana are the most consistent

Remember the African teams that played Nacho, Yahaya and co. at the African Youth Championship. Rhodes teams are still there. Our teams needs games before the tournament/qualifiers. That is one of the problems disturbing the Super Eagles too. No friendly games and then coach is forced to experiment during qualifiers.

Flying Eagles star to undergo scan

Enyimba star Kingsley Sokari has joined up with the Flying Eagles squad in Kaduna, but he will undergo a scan to determine the extent of his hamstring injury.

Sokari pulled out of the jogging exercise at Monday’s training and the Flying Eagles now hope to ascertain the severity of the hamstring injury the midfielder suffered in the final of the Federation Cup against Dolphins last month.

Well received

Otherwise, Sokari has said he has been warmly received by the Nigeria U20s and he wants to fight for his place in the team.

- I have been very well received by the officials and fellow players and I know I now have to justify my call-up, said the young midfielder, whose eventful season was crowned with Enyimba retaining the Federation Cup.

- The fact that I have trained with the Super Eagles does not mean anything. I just have to work harder so that I could play regularly for the Flying Eagles.

Impressive

Meanwhile, hundreds of young players have continued to troop to the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna with the hope of impressing the Flying Eagles coaches led by Manu Garba.

The screening exercise involves training twice a day and officials have hinted that soon the team will begin test matches for the selected players.

Isaac Success Thanks Granada Coach

Nigeria youth international Isaac Success has thanked Granada coach, Joaquin Caparros , for the confidence reposed in him.

Despite failing to hit target in his first 11 matches for the Andalusian outfit, the manager continued to name the striker in his 18 - man squad.

And Success finally ended his goal drought last weekend against Valencia, saving Granada from defeat with an 89th minute equalizer.

“I’m very happy to have scored and I thank Caparros for having been involved in the team.

“I’m looking forward to the next game,” Isaac Success told reporters.

There was a hint of offside leading up to his goal, and the Nigerian youngster was delighted that the referee did not cancel it just as the goal of El Arabi.

“When I scored I looked at the linesman, but I saw that he had not raised anything and eventually you lose or win, this is football,” the Udinese loanee added.

Granada, who are without a win in 10 matches, resumed training on Tuesday ahead of their game on Sunday against Espanyol.

Flying Eagles hammer Jamba Academy

Nigeria’s U20 team, the Flying Eagles, defeated Jamba Academy of Kaduna 4-1 in a test match on Thursday at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.

Flying Eagles coach Manu Garba said he was satisfied with the many chances his team created against a good Jamba side, but would blame match rustiness with his team’s poor finishing.

Chances

After a catalogue of early misses, the Flying Eagles took the lead through a Wasiu Jimoh free kick after eight minutes.

Israel Emmanuel aka ‘Ronaldo’, Billy Auta, Mustapha Abdullahi and Ifeanyi Matthew all had chances to score for the Flying Eagles, but they failed to put them away.

And it was not until the 55th minute that they doubled their advantage through ‘Ronaldo’, who fired home from inside the box.

Impressed

Jamba, who impressed with Peter Bala imposing himself in midfield with his well-measured long balls, deservedly pulled a goal back in the 85th minute through Mathias Kato.

Kato collected a pass from Bala before he fired beyond the diving goalkeeper Dele Alampasu.

Ifeanyi Matthew then put the Flying Eagles 3-1 ahead in the 93rd minute from the penalty spot after Tsafa Terpase Barnabas was brought down inside the box.

Dangerous

Two minutes later, goal scorer Kato turned to zero when he was shown a straight red card for a dangerous tackle on Wasiu Jimoh.

Matthew scored again from the penalty spot in the dying minutes of the encounter when substitute Chisom Eze was brought down inside the box.
The Flying Eagles will play a second test game against Standard FC of Zaria on Saturday morning at the same venue.

Onomah set to make first team debut for Spurs

Tottenham Hotspurs are set to hand a first team and an European debut to Josh Onomah, a British kid of Nigerian parentage.

Onomah will likely see action for Spurs on Thursday against Europa League opponents Besiktas.

Great talent

Harry Winks, another a midfielder who made his debut in the recent win over Partizan Belgrade at White Hart Lane last month, will also likely see action again

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino remarked:

- We have great talent in the academy, the staff are unbelievable people who work very hard and who have a passion for football. We need to give the vehicle for these young players to arrive in the first team.

Balance

- In football, there is always the question of balance.
- That is important. We need to find the balance between buying players, and promoting those from the academy who deserve to play in the first team.

Onomah has already been capped by England at the U17 level, Victor Moses also represented England at the same level

“Musa is back in Nigeria to get a visa to travel with Spurs for an U19 tournament in Malaysia. He could not get such a visa in London because he is a minor and that was why he returned to Nigeria,” disclosed Babawo.

The U17 World Cup winner has been training at the Spurs Academy for several months and he is expected to sign a professional contract when he is 18 in December 2015.

Flying Eagles must improve their finishing says Manu

Nigeria’s U20 team coach Manu Garba has said he expects his team to improve on their finishing despite beating Jamba Academy of Kaduna 4-1 in a test match on Thursday at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.

Manu Garba said he was satisfied with the many chances his team created against a good Jamba side, but would blame match rustiness for his team’s poor finishing.

“We created many chances to score, but we failed to take most of them,” Manu said.

“Probably the problem may be that we have been on break for over three months and so many of these players are now match rusty.

“But in a proper game we may not create as many such chances and so the more reason why we must take most of our chances now.”

Manu also saluted Jamba Academy, but said some of the new call-ups have to do much more to stay on the squad.

“Jamba are not a bad team from what they showed against us, but all the new players who played today for us have to do much more to get into this team because they are not close to the players we already know,” he said.

Academy owner Jamba Zira said he was proud of his team’s display against a national team.

“My boys gave a good account of themselves and even scored the best goal of the entire match,” he remarked.

“We can only learn from this experience.”

After a catalogue of early misses, the Flying Eagles took the lead through a Wasiu Jimoh free kick after eight minutes.

Flying Eagles massacre Standard FC

Nigeria U20 team, the Flying Eagles, stepped up their build-up for next year’s African Youth Championship after they trounced Standard FC of Zaria 12-0 in a test game in Kaduna on Saturday.

Non-league Standard are well known for their exploits in the cup in Kaduna State, but they were outclassed by a fitter and better organised Flying Eagles inside the Ahmadu Bello Stadium.

Better finishing

Striker Billy Auta helped himself to four goals, while Musa Newman, Jacob Njoku and Mathias Samuel netted braces with Samuel Okon and Bernard Bulbwa also on target.

- Our finishing was a lot better than in our first test game against Jamba Academy, but we still have to do a lot more going forward, said Flying Eagles assistant coach Nduka Ugbade.

Sunshine Stars striker Musa Newman opened scoring in the 14th minute when he simply tapped home off a left cross by Auta.

Provider

Auta turned from provider to scorer on 26 minutes when he fired home off a cross by skipper Musa Muhammed.

Auta then tucked away the third goal three minutes later from a cross by Mustapha Abdullahi, before Newman scored a typical poacher’s goal in the 50th minute courtesy of an assist by Musa Muhammed’s pass.

A minute into the second half Auta completed his hat-trick from another cross by left-back Abdullahi.

Collapse

And six minutes later, the Al Cruziero of Kaduna striker netted a fourth goal with another assist by skipper Muhammed.
Substitute Okon then beat the offside trap to score a seventh goal in the 72nd minute, before Mathias made it 8-0 on 76 minutes.
Standard defence continued to collapse with FC Porto youngster Njoku scoring twice late on and so too Bulbwa and Mathias.

Barcelona Starlet Pledges Future To Nigeria

Barcelona starlet Boluwatife Balogun has made his services available to the Olympic National Team and Flying Eagles after committing his international future to Nigeria, despite being eligible to represent Holland and France.

Aged 18, the attacking midfielder is one of the youngsters being nurtured at the famous Barcelona La Masia Academy, which produced the likes of Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta.

The highly- rated youngster has stressed that his commitment to Nigeria should not be doubted despite failing to honour an earlier invitation to the Golden Eaglets as a result of a last-minute injury.

''I have been called up once for Nigeria's national under 17 team but I didn't come to camp due to injuries. If I get any call now, I will honour it because I want to serve my fatherland, if I'm invited,'' Boluwatife Balogun said to SL10.ng.

''I was born in Nigeria. My mom is French and I have a Dutch passport, so I'm also eligible to play for Holland and France.

''I don't have any special reason why I am picking Nigeria ahead of these countries, that's what my dad wants.''

Boluwatife Balogun has admitted that he models his game after Barcelona superstar Andres Iniesta, and he believes he will bring more quality to Nigeria's age - grade teams.

''Andres Iniesta is my role model, he is a great passer of the ball. He has good dribbling skills, he thinks what to do with the ball before it gets to him.

''There are good players there that has some good qualities in the Nigeria team. But with what I possess we will be spectacular,'' he concluded.

Boluwatife Balogun made tremendous strides at Lens Academy before he was snapped up by Barcelona two years ago.

He had a brief stint with Port Harcourt City academy, the same nursery team that produced Kingsley Sokari, before he moved to France to join his mom.

Man City Tried To Sign Musa Mohammed

English Premier League moneybags Manchester City attempted to sign Musa Mohammed from FC Heart Academy before the defender underwent trials with Besiktas.

SL10.ng has been specially informed that respected Ghanaian agent Eddie Duah had made contact with Musa Mohammed's camp during the FIFA Under-17 tournament as regards to the youngster joining the Etihad Stadium outfit.

While negotiations between representatives of the Citizens and Adam Mohammed, the agent of Musa Mohammed, were ongoing, the brokers pulled the plug on the move after reading in the papers that the Nigeria youth international was on his way to Besiktas.

Eddie Duah, who used to handle the affairs of Seyi Olofinjana, has admitted that he tried to lure Musa Mohammed to the English Premier League, without mentioning the identity of the interested club.

“I wanted to take him (Musa Mohammed) to a top club in the English Premier League, but his Nigerian agent had other plans for him,” said Eddie Duah to SL10.ng.

“So I backed out. It was a real shame because Musa's style of play would have been fantastic for the EPL. I like to work in a straight forward and honest manner.”

Before Manchester City were snubbed by the ex-Golden Eaglets skipper and his entourage, they had already wrapped up a deal for one of Nigeria's brightest talents, Kelechi Iheanacho, who was recommended to the club by Eddie Duah.

The right back was also linked with possible moves to Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United after putting himself in the shop widow at the 2013 FIFA Under-17 World Cup.

After the 18-year-old's proposed switch to Besiktas hit the rocks, he tried his luck at SC Bastia, but the French club have suspended transfer talks until they swim out of the relegation zone.

I am impressed with the professional approach of Coach Manu Garba. He has good understanding with the foreign clubs. That is a nice development. It shows Coach Manu Garba is watching the development of the foreign boys.

Garba Expects A Solid Outing At AYC

Flying Eagles coach, Manu Garba, has told SL10.ng that he and his team wants to have a ‘solid’ outing at next year’s Africa Youth Championship in Senegal, and win the tournament once again.

Nigeria has been champions at the U20 level six times and holds the record as the most successful team in the history of the competition and Garba, who currently manages what is regarded as arguably Nigeria’s best ever youth team says he wants to make it title number seven and have a ‘solid’ performance as well.

“We want to win the Africa Youth Championship in Senegal next year and we want to do that by having a very solid outing in the tournament. We want to be the best team in the tournament and score as many goals as possible before winning it.

“We have a good team now and hopefully we will be even better when the competition starts because that is what we are working on right now and hopefully we will get it,” he said enthusiastically.

The Flying Eagles have continued with their impressive form since resuming camp in Kaduna and have won all the friendly games they have played so far, even scoring as many as twelve goals in one of the games against a local side, but Garba said he isn’t getting carried away by that.

“We have won our friendly games here (Kaduna) but we know we will play against tougher opponents and we must prepare well so we are not getting carried away, we know what we want and that we must do.”

Lampard Loan Extension Threatens Iheanacho Stay

Nigeria super teen Kelechi Iheanacho's hope of staying at Manchester City this season has taken a hit with the champions reportedly willing to extend the loan spell of Frank Lampard.

Manchester City loaned Frank Lampard from their MLS franchise New York City Fc for the period before the start of the MLS season but manager Manuel Pellegrini confirmed they want the veteran to stay on till the end of the season.

Already talks are in motion to keep the 36 year old till March when the MLS season is expected to resume to cover up for the void that will be created by the absence of Yaya Toure who will be away for the Africa cup of Nations from January to February.

However Pellegrini wants him to stay on till the end of the season and if that happens Kelechi Iheanacho might be heading to the MLS to fill in for Lampard at NYCFC.

Already reports have it that Manchester City have applied for a work permit for the Most Valuable player of last year Under-17 world cup using the special talent rule in their application to the home office.

Despite turning 18 few months ago,Manchester City are yet to sign professional terms with him but some reports claim he will be signed in January and loaned out to New York City FC.

They face competition for his signature from teams in Belgium and Spain, already his compatriot at the team Chidebere Nwakali is set for a loan in Spain according to reports.

Moses Shuns Under-23 for Under-20

AS Trencin forward, Simon Moses, has confirmed to SL10.ng he will resume camp with the Flying Eagles after the Christmas break, after failing to honour an invitation to the Under-23 screening.

The 19 year old, who has been linked with a summer move to either Hull City or Tottenham Hotspur, was an unused substitute all through the last Under-20 World Cup in Turkey and he is part of the eight foreign based players called up by Manu Garba.

"As at when we were given break, the camp was already on for two weeks, so I missed it but I will join up with the Under-20s when they resume after the holiday period," he told SL10.ng

Moses, who is in Abuja at the moment to sort out family issues, is the top scorer for his Slovenia side AS Trencin despite not playing as a striker, he has 13 goals to his name.

His AS Trencin compatriot Kingsley Madu, who played at the last Under-20 World Cup, will also team up with the Manu Garba's side, a move which a member of the team defended.

"We called up Madu not because we don't have other left full backs in camp, but we need his experience and exposure he will be an upgrade on what we presently have." a source told SL10.ng

There have been complaints over Madu's invitation to the team, with pundits saying it will stifle the growth of two left full backs presently in the team in Emmanuel Okon and Mustapha Abdullahi.

Both players are part of a quartet of Nigerians at the Slovenia side withm Rabiu Ibrahim and Emmanuel Edmond completing it.
