bigtt76: Which kin fly abroad? Ghana na abroad?

Nothing wey den de teach these kids o!

If my kid brother had attended the same schools I did, he would have suffered and probably lost interest in school.

And I don't mean Ghana, I'm talking about Europe and the Americas. Where teaching is studied and where teachers recognize that every child's learning curve is unique to that child. Where a genius kid is placed in an accelerated or advanced learning program and a child with a learning disorder is placed in special ed.

I went to school with kids who couldn't keep up and the only solution to a child failing a test is to flog the kid or make the child repeat the class for so long they develop a complex.

So many Nigerians pass through school but yet are not educated, case in point; the countless educated reeetards that we have on Nairaland. People who can't tell the difference between a plier and a cutter or 'I'm and Am'.

Like my Vice Principal in Secondary school always said; if you think education is expensive, try ignorance.

Even in the US and Europe, public schools and Ivy League schools are not in the same class and the reason is obvious. The government can never afford to provide the same standard of education for the masses. Imagine if government schools were relegated to having just 8 - 12 students per class, we would need atleast 100 more public schools to accommodate the current number of students they have.

The moral lesson here is simply "Make Money" because better soup and money go hand in hand.

We all can't be heroes.. Plus school isn't meant to breed heroes.

These kids still end up with a better education than their exact counterparts in public schools.

I will not pay between 2 to 4 million to any Nigerian school just so that my kids can learn how to speak phonetics & have some connection that we all assume will help them in future. I'd rather they studied abroad if I can afford such fee. I think the fee is totally over rated.

I get you ...we all went through same school of hard knocks grin I remember in secondary school back in Nigeria. Each time we had class test in the sciences, the next class is always dreaded as those who failed are flogged grin the thing is, it helped instill fear of failure and forced us to study or cram as much as we can to avoid such.

Long run, we studied to pass tests and exams but understood natin grin This changed later in life when no longer under pressure ...everything just fell into place.

we fall into the lucky few that survived that system of education.

I was always terrified of mathematics tests, quizzes and eXmas. I was a perpetual back bencher in a class of 45- 55 students. I always got lost in the crowd and copied my way through school until my mum caught on to my antics and started paying close attention to my studies and hired home tutors to help me keep up.

A lot of my classmates fell off. They beat the system all the way to university graduation only to get caught in the vicious and unforgiving world of corporate employment where you can't cheat your way through.

These ivy league schools sure can reduce their rather outrageous tuition, but seeing as demand for top quality schools have increased and public schools are on an unending slide into uselessness, one can't blame them. In my days, the unity schools where the best, today those unity schools are a shadow of their previous glory.

I have accepted the decay in Nigeria's education system and have recognised that for my kids to get top quality education, I would have to pay top dollar, so now I hussle harder to afford this necessity.

It's sad though.

HAH: Such schools are actually created for social and class segregation as well as networking among the children of the rich, at end of the day they will form a strong alumni where they help each other through out their lives.

They don't want their children to mingle with the classless and poor, the parent usually can afford even 10M school fees, we are talking of the children of CEOs, top government, and diplomats.

I know of an international organisation that pay their staff children schools fees up to $15000 annually per child.

this is exactly what my dad said...and i agree

Summary: In a country where the 90% dey work, 10% dey chop and d 10% own 90% of the national cake, this outrageous fees paid for secondary school student should be expected. Complaining is a pure waste of time because it's not gonna change anyth. So plan ur life very well (to enter into d 10% category so that u can enjoy ur life) because from the way things r going in this country, there is no hope for d common man.

Where and how will he meet a child from AJ? After secondary school they go off to Ivy League colleges and come back to Nigeria as MDs e.g Ladi Balogun. They go around with police escorts while their mates go for tests where stampedes occur. Their lives are simply different, I'll give my child the same opportunities if I can afford it.

This is outrageous and utterly wasteful. No matter how rich I am,i can't send my child to this kind of schools.haba. And funny thing is most students that graduate from ths schools na dem dull pass. I know someone who sent her daughter to a very expensive school in osogbo.common "wayec" like my first lady will call it she couldn't pass.she had d's all through.and people who went to ordinary govt schools come out in flying colors.
