Nigerian Army Says “area Boys” Vandalised Lagos BRT Buses by Nobody: 3:27pm On Jul 04, 2014
A soldier was allegedly killed by a BRT bus.
Soldiers are on a rampage along Ikorodu Road
in Lagos destroying BRT buses, residents have
said.
The soldiers’ actions was said to be caused by
a BRT bus that allegedly run a soldier over at
the Palmgrove bus stop killing him.
Eyewitnesses at the scene of the mayhem said
the soldier that was knocked down by the bus
was on the BRT lane and wasn’t killed. Some
of them said he made a pbone call after he was
knocked down and refused to listen to the pleas
from those at the scene to forgive the driver of
the bus.
Apparently the incident has caused massive
traffic leading all the way to the Berger area
of Lagos.
Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Army,
Gen. Olajide Olaleye, told PREMIUM TIMES
“area boys,” not Nigerian soldiers carried out
the rampage.
“It’s not true that soldier destroyed buses or set
any bus on fire,” he said. “What happened was
that a BRT bus knocked down a soldier and
killed him. As usual in Lagos so area boys
gathered and a few soldiers stopped at the
scene as well. The GOC has dispatched military
policemen to the scene to help restore law and
order.”
LAMATA pro says he’s in a noisy area and
could not talk to PREMIUM TIMES
immediately.
One of the soldiers captured on camera
smashing a BRT windscreen
Our reporter counted six burnt buses and three
others with broken windscreen so far.

i wonder why these guys have barracks in city centres? Anyways in case you didn't know, Nigerian soldiers are trained to intimidate and oppress you rather than protect.

On the contrary, barracks were built in colonial era far away from settlements but civilians latched on to such barracks as centres of commerce and business hence blurring the divide that originally existed.

very true but there should/should have been some kind of relocation plan and wherever the next set of barracks are located, there shouldn't be civilian buildings around it. At least 30km distance from cities.

Ok, so soldiers were there and area boys were destroying BRT buses in their presence? Does the Army PR Man know that a large number of BRT buses plying Lagos roads are at least part-owned by the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) who "Area Boys" are known to be affiliated to?

Besides, there is more than enough evidence that men of the Nigerian Army destroyed those buses. Has the Nigerian Army sunk so low to selling lies to the public after such a national disgrace by its men?

30km radius of land around a military barrack is too juicy to allow to waste except it is heavily mined with bombs.

The barracks in Nigeria draw the civil populace to itself and for as long as this continues the civilians will always end up with the short end of the stick.

why are you ventilating anger this afternoon?

The Army has sunk low years ago.

Were you not born when they lied to 170 million Nigerians that they freed the Chibok girls.

If you shout too much you could disappear as if you never existed.

Let's just accept their hypothesis before we hear of stories that touch with regards to you.

For as long as we allow the files of the military to be occupied by uneducated and uncultured hooligan, they will always behave to type.

Or wait and do nothing and probably get consumed the next time some trigger-happy ragamuffin in uniform decides to shoot first and ask about the consequences later? We all have choices to make, we live or sink by them.

APC would soon claim that this is an act of the FG to destroy the gains of the LASG and to intimidate the electorates even before 2015 draws near just like they say it was done in Ekiti. It won't be long now before you'll hear from Lai Mohammed, it won't be long.

No, it is part of the transformation agenda of the federal government then? From having BRT buses to trekking or using bicycles. #Yeye

There is this mindless conformity amongst Nigerians that we can do destructive things and get away with them because we are students, cultists, area boys, policemen and of course, military men. It is sad but when some of these military men leave active service, they find it difficult to cope in society, they were made to feel that wearing a camouflage and carrying guns "is it"? After that what else?

Nigeria is a Mob society.. We civilians only act where 2 or 3 are gathered hoping we get lost in the crowd.

Those in Uniforms actually lose their minds once they wear them. Every Nigerian with a Uniform linked to the government feels like they are the Law, Judge, Jury and executioner. From LASTMA, Police, Man-O-War, Civil Defence, Army, Airforce, Navy, VIO, FRSC, Traffic Warden, LAWMA, e.t.c.

The root problem is Education. If these people had really good education and understood that though they wear uniforms, they are not above the law and that those whom they assault also have rights, they would think twice before acting foolish.

It is beyond sad. Look at the Nigerian police. I weep for my nation. People who are to serve and protect,do not even know what those functions entail. Everyone is interested in personal gains. I laugh when i see comments of people quick to castigate. We are all individually guilty. Nigerians are all ''I and Me''. If u ask yourself how the americans got this far,it is the spirit of ''Yes WE can''. We have a long way to go. We need to help ourselves and stop waiting on manna from the skies.

The most hilarious one is LASTMA! Those guys think they are above the law. Lol @ LAWMA. No be dustbin peepuu be dat? Hahahaha

Education is not the root problem, bro. It is loss of societal and family values. Parents are corrupt, what do u expect from kids? A kid is called a fool when he passes off the opportunity to cheat his fellow kids. He is regarded as weak when he does not hit back his aggressor. The problem is from us.
