The Extra Ordinary General Assembly of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) yesterday in Abuja unanimously dissolved the Alhaji Aminu Maigari-led board and appointed new Electoral and Appeals Committees to handle its forthcoming election. In a communiqué read by Chief Obinna Ogba, Chairman of the Communiqué Drafting Committee, on behalf of 31 out of 44 members who came from the various states of the federation to Bolingo Hotels and Towers Abuja, venue of the Extra Ordinary General Assembly, to deliberate on recent developments around Nigeria football bemoaned the financial row involving the Super Eagles and the Maigari-led board at the Mundial in Brazil. Emeka Asogwa (South East), Mrs. Margareth Aku (North Central), Mr. Hassan Adamu (North East), Prof. Ademola Abass (South West), Barr. Chris Essien (South South) and Lawrence Katken (Secretary). The Electoral Appeals Committee which was also duly constituted yesterday bythe NFF Congress includes, Barr. Effiong Oboho, Barr. Queen Otarakpo as Secretary.Sunday Mirroralso gathered that the Extra-Ordinary Congress unanimously endorsed the dissolution of the Aminu Maigari –led NFF Executive Committee, and immediate termination of the employment of all Management Staff. They also endorsed the dissolution of the Boards of the Nigeria National League, Nigeria Women League and the Nigeria Nationwide League. The Secretaries are to take over the running of the Leagues and report to the Acting General Secretary of NFF.The Congress finally approved the appointment of Mr. Lawrence Katken as Acting General Secretary of NFF, pending the appointment of a substantiveGeneral Secretary. The recent development nowputs to rest the recent threat by the world football ruling body (FIFA) to ban Nigeria if the crises in the NFF are not properly resolved before July8. FIFA had warned the NFF that they could be banned from international football if they cannot prove their independence from the Nigerian government.“FIFA has reminded the NFF that all FIFA member associations have to manage their affairs independently and without influence of any third parties,” the statement on FIFA’s website read. The statement continued: “FIFA will not recognize any person or organ not elected in compliance with the NFF statutes.“An elective Congress has been duly convened by the NFF for August 26, 2014 and only decisions and persons elected then will be considered legitimate.”It could be recalled that Justice L.P Lot of a High Courtsitting in Jos, Plateau State, had on Wednesday, restrained the former NFF boss, Maigari, his Executive Committee members and theCongress from carrying on with the running of football in the country following a suit. The Judge also mandated Sports Minister, Dr. Tamuno Danagogo, to appoint an acting Secretary General to run the affairs of Nigerian football pending the determination of the Motion on Notice before the court. Therefore, with the confirmation of Lawrence Katken as Acting NFF Secretary General by the NFFCongress yesterday, the coastis now clear for a credible election into the board of NFF to hold next month.
