EFCC Closes Case In Trial Of Fani-kayode Over Alleged Moneylaundering by kel4soft: 3:22pm On Jul 10, 2014
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC) on Thursday closed its case in the trial of
Femi Fani-Kayode, charged with money laundering,
while serving as Minister of Aviation .
Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, is
standing trial on an amended 40-count charge
bordering on money laundering, before a Federal High
Court sitting in Lagos.
When the case was mentioned on Thursday, the
prosecution counsel, Mr Festus Keyamo, through a
letter delivered by Mr Vitalis Ahaotu, informed the
court of the closure of its case.
The defence counsel, Mr Wale Akoni (SAN), did not
object to the letter by the Prosecution. He, however,
informed the court of his intention to file a no-case
submission to the charges against his client.
Consequently, Justice Rita-Ofili Ajumogobia gave the
defence 21 days within which to file their application
before the court and ordered the prosecution to
respond within seven days, on receipt of the process.
She adjourned the case till Oct. 28 for adoption of
final written addresses.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the
EFCC had opened its case on March 10 and called five
witnesses to testify.Among the witnesses were the
Investigating Police Officers, bank legal officers, and a
former aide to Fani-Kayode.
NAN recalls that Fani-Kayode was first arraigned
sometime in December 2008 before Justice Ramat
Mohammed on a 47-count charge.
He had pleaded not guilty to the charge and Justice
Mohammed had granted him bail in the sum of N200
Million, with two sureties in like sum.
However, the former minister was re-arraigned before
Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako, following the transfer of
Mohammed from the Lagos Division. The accused was
again re-arraigned before Ajumogobia on Feb. 11,
2013, following the transfer of Murtala-Nyako.
On March 6, Fani-Kayode was again arraigned before
Ajumogobia, following the amendment of the 47-
count charge by the EFCC.The commission had
dropped seven of the counts.
Ajumogobia is the third judge to sit over the case in
the last five years.
In the charge, the former minister was alleged to have
transacted business with funds exceeding N500, 000
without going through a financial institution.
The accused was also alleged to have accepted cash
payments in the tune of about N100 million, while he
held sway as Minister of Aviation and Minister of
Culture and Tourism, respectively.
The offences contravene the provisions of Sections
15(1) (a) (b) (c) (d) and 15 (2) (a) (b) of the Money
Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2004.

what do u expect. Accept to work for GEJ, get your case squashed if u are nt yet convicted, or get a presidential pardon if you have been convicted. IN ADDITION TO THAT, you bcom a minister, or get PDP ticket for governor of your state or senate.

I can bet Ministerial appointment or senatorial ticket awaits FFK.

It is logical to reason that PDP/GEJ planted some mole in APC to do some dirty job like causing chaos, disagreemnt and talk ill of APC as an aggrieved insider, then go back to their pay master having accomplished their mission. e.g shakarau, ffk.

well apc actually gave room for their own self destruction.

As expected, it's happened. Without being told, even a blind man would know that the case would be closed; because it's been audible to the deaf and visible to the blind.

PDP has been welcoming thieves since 1999. By 2015, when GEJ would have been swept out of Aso Rock, the case would be re-opened.

Now when the defence counsel files a no case submission, the judge and the prosecutors will find a way to kill the case thereby paving the way for FFK to resume the work he is being hired for by the Presidency. This is the reason why all these big men are not always perturbed anytime the EFCC investigates and charges them for corruption, they know that one way or the other, the cases will die an untimely death!

You forgot to add Mohammed Abacha. His case also has been withdrawn and it is rumoured that he might become the next PDP gubernatorial aspirant in Kano state

To all the overnight anti-corruption activists, didn't you realise he was corrupt when he was a firece critic of the government and an APC member? You were endorsing all his articles and calling the EFCC case a witch hunt by the President against a critic of his, the President brought him to his side, he kept to his own side of the bargain and got a pardon for his efforts, why are you guys complaining now?
Two can play the game yo!

If not for the Nairaland data loss, I would have fished out a post from this same hypocrite where he condemned FFK's trial by EFCC when he was still with the opposition.

If thou shall confess with your mouth, that I have accepted to work for GEJ in 2015, even though your sins be as bad as Shekau or the so called Patron of BH Gen. Buhari or an ally of Amaechi. All your sins towards that be will be forgiven and you will be place above the Prince and Princes of Aso Rock. A new song will be written about you, how you are the best thing that has ever happen since slice...

People are beyond mad in this country. The prosecution rested. Is that the same thing as government closed its case? Even the defendant's lawyer is filing a no case submission brief. Yet, moronic bastarddds here are talking of closed case.

Mr. Jonathan should prosecute whoever suggested this move to the AGF, EFCC boss and the Lawyer for agreeing to "Close" the case rather than allow the judge do his job. The people involved along with the robots are d real enemies of Nigeria.

Jonathan, if you are involved in this mess, you also deserve prosecution and a looooong term in jail after ur presidency

That is what you guys who enjoy attaching everything to politics has turned Nigeria into, let's see how far it takes us.
There is no way FFK would have been found guilty then without you guys and your party APC attributing it to political ''witch hunt''.
Enjoy what you brought to yourselves.

I don't think supporting the man's written views against any establishment in Nigeria also means supporting his alleged acts of corruption so you are very very misguided here..

You views doesn't alter the fact that Jona and all the crime fighting agencies are all corrupt, compromised and sad financial burden and waste. EFCC should be scraped, it's of no use to the Nigerian taxpayers funding their corrupt and and incompetent judgments and judicial charade. At lest jona doesn't hide his affinity and preference for corruption and corrupt people. He hires corrupt people still under the same corrupt EFCC investigation and also pardons and shields corrupt people.

Btw, I don't see any guilt here and FFK shouldn't have been prosecuted in the first place since stealing is not corruption according to our corrupt president.
