Any mechanical engineer in the house? To the laymen, why are Nigerians obsessed with building car car car? Have we built our bicycle? What about our TV?

To the engineers, how many square feet of solar panel do you need to produce even 80HP of engine power? That's smaller than any car's engine I know of even. Where do you spread the panel on the car? Ok bye

He must have spent enough time in the mechanic workshop before entering school.

That is better than loads of younger people theorizing their way out of uni. This guy has the experience and has the drive for success. Even though its not a new technological achievement, i am proud to see a Nigerian doing something constructive.

It is true! But what have your 60+ years professors achieved aside from their tattered white hair?
I aknowledge your contribution, dude. You are not part of the folks who are always thinking of bringing or 'importing' fake products into our nation

I appreciate this guy's efforts and creativity, he's clearly a brilliant young man but this right here is misplaced priority.

Solar powered cars are not a unique idea, as a matter of fact, there are already solar powered cars made by big auto giants. Funneling his funds into this project was foolish and ill-adviced. There's a reason solar cars are yet to catch up with the present day, they are good innovations which looks good at exhibitions or technology expos but there are many difficulties associated with rolling them out on a commercial scale.

Creativity is not just about making random stuff that already exists or no one needs. You need to do your research properly before venturing into pointless, time & money consuming projects.

This man instead of channeling his money towards something productive, just flushed it down the drain making stuff that looks archaic like something out of the 1940s, someone dare not conceive this type of idea in this 21st century.

I guess the purpose of these projects is to test the student's understanding of the basic subject matter.
If the dude even coupled this together, and was able to generate some degree of motion, it's not so bad. No need for snide comments.
If you are into building stuff (I am, by the way), you basically do it for the know-how to start with. This is a pet project for the chap.

In practice the economics of building any 100%-solar-powered automotive vehicle is unrealistic for anybody. Possibly in the future, you could have solar-powered sub-orbital vehicles like you see in movies, maybe even aircraft but they'd still need fossil or nuclear fuel to get them into the skies, and into cruising altitude.

But it's still nice to see young Nigerian students trying to build stuff. I am always cheered by such news , and will definitely hire guys like this to build the stuff I want to build commercially.

saasala: Proud of him but I think we should blow his trumpet aloud if he was the first man to build a solar car. Solar cars have been around for quite a while, and those parts were only coupled by him and not built from scratch just like building a Jumia-like website using opencart. To understand my point, read Facts you Surely Want to Know About the Solar-cars. Read it here: http://www..com/8-facts-you-surely-want-to-know-about-the-solar-cars/
He put his knowledge into practice, you that have known about solar cars all this while, what have you invented?

This is one thing I hate about such news as this, it will end here from today. We will not get to hear that the guy is making the car for masses to buy. Instead of this boys to copy the chinese and do something small which you can do for the masses and sell it in the Nigerian market which would benefit everyone, he is building a solar car which govt will not approve. Nigeria has no light, if you come up with a solar light that people can buy cheaply, would be great. If you want to build car, go to europe and showcase your talent.

That is a Beetle car built by a Germany car company. The title of the thread is misleading.
