A people that will wait for foreigners to come and solve virtually every problem for them

A people that will accept everything from the foreigners without making any attempt to add value to it or to modify it to suit their own

peculiarities

A people that received a defective system of education and more than fifty years later, they have not been able to evolve their own system that will meet their own needs

A people that inherited a civil service structure from the colonial masters and ran it aground shortly after. The only period of glory that people in this sector can talk about is that time when the Britons still held sway.

A people that have no pride in themselves and their accomplishments; who cannot bring something tangible to the world's negotiation table.

Why would such a people not be disrespected?

Onyegecha: A people that will wait for foreigners to come and solve virtually every problem for them

I'd say that 99.999% of problems encountered in Nigeria every day are resolved by Nigerians without recourse to help from the next LGA talk less of from foreigners thousands of miles away. I've no idea what you're talking about here.

A people that will accept everything from the foreigners without making any attempt to add value to it or to modify it to suit their own

peculiarities

Can you name specific examples of this? What have ''we'' received from foreigners which we have failed to add our stamp on it? I can't think of anything. Religion? We've transformed it totally to the point the whites won't believe it is the same religion they introduced. From Bishop Ajayi-Crowther to TB Joshua. Industry? There were no Dangotes when the British ruled. Our folks were in the village tilling the soil. Just ask your grandpa. We had no INNOSON MOTORS. A proudly Nigerian indigenous car manufacturer. Today we have satellites in space built by Nigerian scientists. How dare you claim we have stood still? Socially? We're not walking around trying to be English. We've altered western fashions and given them a uniquely Nigerian stamp that has wowed catwalk audiences from Nairobi to Paris and from Rome to Los Angeles. We have world famous designers courted by some of the world's most famous people. We've even ''modified the English language to suit our peculiarities'', and transformed Nigerian pidgin into a global communication phenomenon through our excellence in film and music, and consequent global reach.

A people that received a defective system of education and more than fifty years later, they have not been able to evolve their own system that will meet their own needs
Education? We barely ''received'' anything, education wise. Before independence literacy rate was under 10%. Under indigenous rule it's now 74% due to the mass building of schools by post-independence govts. We've expanded education to the point whereby someone like you, whom ordinarily should be in the village planting corn or grinding the evening pepper like your grandma was under the British, is educated enough now to hold a reasonable paying modern job, and come online to type any flippant 'idea' that floats into her head. Urban dwellers have expanded from around 10% in 1960 to nearly 50% today! Meaning generally greater prosperity for millions of people like YOU. Be thankful.

A people that inherited a civil service structure from the colonial masters and ran it aground shortly after. The only period of glory that people in this sector can talk about is that time when the Britons still held sway.

So, what did this 'wonderful' ''civil service structure'' from your ''colonial masters'' achieve? What grand projects did they facilitate? Why was malnutrition rife at independence? Why was infant mortality rate 259 per 1000 (figure down to 65 per 1000 today)? Why was there not a single power plant in the country until after independence, in 1964? Power generation capacity stood at 270 mw after 65 years of uninterrupted colonial rule. Is that what you term success? (There was no national grid. The ''civil service'' imported huge generators to power 'important' areas like Ikoyi while the rest of the country used candlelight). Not a single university until after independence, in 1962? Not a single dual carriageway (expressway) in the country until the 1970s? Primary schools the preserve of a lucky, tiny few?

So what did this 'wonderful' ''civil service structure'' from your ''colonial masters'' achieve? It seems to me they drank tea all day in their nice, clean offices while diverting money to Britain and singing 'God Save The Queen'. Meanwhile '95% of Nigerians were village dwelling farmers, hunters of rabbits, palmwine tappers, and tailors.

At least today our ''run-down'' civil service has overseen and is overseeing all sorts of multi-billion dollar projects, both at state and federal levels. Millions have benefited, including YOU. Yes some underhand dealings take place, but at least they're not shifting 99% of the cash to Britain as happened under your ''wonderful colonial civil service structure''.

A people that have no pride in themselves and their accomplishments..

I think you're referring to yourself here...

Why would such a people not be disrespected?

I'd say because like you, they don't realize quite how far Africans have come since independence, due largely to the monstrously skewed and distorted portrayal of the continent by the 'mainstream' media.

Try and be objective sometimes

Read his comment and look deeply into it

We Africans are yet to prove ourselves.

Take a look at our education
If it is not faulty, most things we use in Africa would be produced in Africa and by Africans. The phone labtop computer you are using, was it made by Africans.

To be frank

Africa needs to be overhauled

You praise the civil service based on the projects they embarked on

May I ask you

How many were completed

How many are elephant projects

Rate the efficiency and effectiveness of their services eg NEPA/PHCN, NITEL,NRC, NPA, NNPC etc

Africa needs to prove herself before she can be respected.

Most things we use in Africa ARE produced in Africa by Africans. Most Nigerians' shoes are made in Nigeria. Same as their clothes. Don't mistake the fact that you wear Jeans and tshirt everyday for every Nigerian doing it. Most of the food we eat is grown by Nigerians. Just because you eat indomie noodles everyday doesn't mean most Nigerians do it.

The phone labtop computer you are using, was it made by Africans.

But the phones, laptops etc being used in UK and France are not made by European companies. Mostly Asian firms. Kini big deal? Meanwhile we DO have companies here in Nigeria producing laptops, (eg Zinox Computers) and I hear a mobile phone factory is being built somewhere.. So we are coming up. WHY DON'T YOU start something? Are you only good at pointing fingers at other Africans?

To be frank

Africa needs to be overhauled

Virtually ALL are completed and running to varying degrees of success from roads to airports, from schools to universities. Why don't YOU name the so-called 'white elephants'? In any case, we prefer a 'white elephant' running at 30% capacity to ''no elephant at all'' as was the case under the ''wonderful colonial civil service''.

Rate the efficiency and effectiveness of their services eg NEPA/PHCN, NITEL,NRC, NPA, NNPC etc

Rate the efficiency of the ECN (Electricity Corporation of Nigeria) which was our power authority under colonialism, in light of their generation of 270 mw.

What did the telecoms company existing before NITEL achieve? 1 telephone per 5,500 people! Today phone coverage is nearly 100% courtesy of the economic dynamism of your ''run-down'' civil service.

Africa needs to prove herself before she can be respected.

Africa is moving. What are YOU doing? That's the question.

Who said anything about planes? So you expect Nigeria to be on the same industrialized level as the USA and Germany just 50 years after independence? You are a dreamer. 50 years ago you didn't even have a single university!! Do you know how old the oldest universities in Germany and the USA are? How long they've been developing their industrial class independently? Hundreds of years! Sorry, but you need to get rid of your inferiority complex. There is nothing wrong in being a developing nation or region. Development is an incremental thing that takes time. You were placed here by God to contribute YOUR quota and move on. You were not placed here to point fingers and feel inferior.

Again, what have YOU contributed to the African Rennaissance?

You see, someone llke INNOSON does not go online to broadcast his inferiority complex, or to insult Africans. He sits down and thinks about how HE can help transform Africa. He had no political connections. No godfather. No rich parents. Yet today he stands as a shining example of what the African can achieve once he sheds his inferiority complex. YOU need to think like INNOSON. Don't think in terms of ''we''. Think in terms of ''I''. ''What can I bring to the table''. That is the only way you can truly help Africa. Coming online to type ridiculous and stu.pid titles announcing your perceived inferiority like the poster did is utterly counter-productive. It actually makes you part of the problem.

I don't know about Innoson, but you will do well to observe what triggers innovation; chiefly among them is a quality educational structure. As rightly as the op mention, that institution (education) also like every other fails to evolve several years after it was handed over by the british. The incessant strike is a pointer of mismanagement, or is it the learning environment? What part of infrastructure do you want to point at that is efficient. Being blinded by politics of greed and selfishness is intoxicated than the strongest gin. The government owe us nothing than providing conducive environment that encourage innovations and discovery. But when pot belly chiefs like you see constructive critism as an attack on your pay master, then the situation gets more pathetic.
Re: Why The World Says We Are Inferior by Nobody: 10:24pm On Jul 30, 2014
It is difficult to respect black people. They have contributed nothing and I mean nothing to human civilization. Just like Hausa Fulani cannot be respected in Nigeria because they are parasites.

Lordlexyy: I don't know about Innoson, but you will do well to observe what triggers innovation; chiefly among them is a quality educational structure.

Are you not well educated? What have you done with the education YOU'VE received? You say you don't know about INNOSON. I'll tell you about him. He barely saw the four walls of a higher institution, yet is today the only black man on earth who owns a car manufacturing plant.

As rightly as the op mention, that institution (education) also like every other fails to evolve several years after it was handed over by the british.

And i showed earlier that that was utter trash. Little or no 'education' was handed over by the British. They ruled for 65 years and built not one university in that period. Are you talking of the few missionary primary/sec schools they handed over? Please don't make me laugh. We've surpassed all that by an incredibly wide margin. Certainly in terms of quantity. Quality? Here and there there are problems? But that was always bound to be the case. Who were the people that were supposed to produce a world class educational system out of..... nothing? Stop saying we ''inherited'' anything from the colonialists. We really didn't. We're on our own in all this.

What part of infrastructure do you want to point at that is efficient.

Nigeria is a developing nation. DEAL WITH IT OR EMIGRATE TO USA.

Being blinded by politics of greed and selfishness is intoxicated than the strongest gin. The government owe us nothing than providing conducive environment that encourage innovations and discovery. But when pot belly chiefs like you see constructive critism as an attack on your pay master, then the situation gets more pathetic.

When Galileo, Rembrandt, Henry Ford and others were innovating, their economies were not the efficient powerhouses they are today. Those great inventors and achievers had no electricity. No running water. No free internet. No mobile phones. No cars. YOU HAVE ALL THESE THINGS, YET YOU'RE STILL COMPLAINING. This leads one to conclude that even when you get your ''perfect infrastructure'' and ''perfect education'' you will still find an excuse to be a failure.

This is George Washington Carver (1864-1943).

The Father of Biochemical Engineering.

He was born into slavery. His mum was kidnapped by slave raiders when he was still an infant. He went on to become one of the world's greatest inventors at a time and place where blacks were also being lynched on the streets just for being black!! He received full national honorary awards from President Roosevelt.

So what excuse have you got?

jerseyboy: It is difficult to respect black people. They have contributed nothing and I mean nothing to human civilization.

Blacks laid the very foundations for the modern civilization we have today. Blacks invented writing, mathematics, the sciences, the arts, religion, architecture, medicine, mining, geometry. Right here in Africa lie the ruins of Kerma in modern day Sudan. It is one of the oldest cities on earth, built of stone 10,000 years ago, with near perfect geometry. When such architecture was the norm in Africa, Europeans were still confined to caves in the Caucasus mountains of Russia, so how dare you say the blacks have contributed nothing to civilization? Blacks INVENTED civilization.

This is the Papyrus of Maiperi, an Egyptian noble, dated over 4,000 years old!! 4,000 years ago, Europe didn't actually exist as a peopled continent!!

The reason the world sees black africans as inferior is a lot of africans are like the thread starter. They only know how to bi.tch Moan and complain. They never think about how they themselves could solve Africa's issues and contribute to Africa's development.

Luckily there are a growing number of africans that are NOT like the thread starter. From dangote to Aganga, to ifediaso chukwuma, chiamanda adichie, wole Soyinka, Jim ovia, adewale tinubu and so much more. For God sake even Goodluck Jonathan that is the whipping boy of nigeria is better than thread starter.

Rossick I salute you for holding it down.

My dear Rossike and co, does it not strike you as odd that we must wait for foreign aids in order to get vaccines for measles, hepatitis, diphtheria, TB, tetanus Yellow fever, cholera, pertussis and EVERY other disease? What this means is that our lives are actually in the hands of these foreigners.

The Hiv pandemic is being tackled with foreign aids. If they choose to, they can shut their doors and allow us to roast in the fire of aids.

Even malaria, we cannot find a cure to. Roll back malaria is a foreign initiative. They are distributing insecticide -treated nets which are clearly harmful to us and it is accepted as solution to the malaria problem. Why can't we censor some of these interventions? Because we are Nigerians, the begging capital of the world.
I can bet you that if mosquitoes were a problem to the West, they would have gone extinct by now.

Even now, we are begging for an outrageous sum to enable us fight terror in spite of all the money we waste on frivolities. The list is endless.

ONLY THE TRUTH CAN SET US FREE. We need a strong revolution.

Did you just say 99 percent ? Haba, face the bitter truth. We have toothpicks made in China. Shoes, plates. cups, toothpaste, clothes, tv, common phone chargers and cables are all imported.

Stop being proud of what you should be ashamed of. It is not patriotism.
