joker5180: there are masters degrees in medicine but one MUST have an MBBS first before applying
I replied in respect to his question as a Bsc student. He cant do any masters in medicine with a Bsc. Of course after Medicine, the opportunities are endless. Masters in Epidemiology, Occupational Health, Environmental Health, Public Health Policy, Biostatistics, Reproductive Health, Mental Health, Dental Health, Primary Health Care, Pharmacology, etc. But doing residency for 5-6 years to specialise is a better option to me than those masters programmes.

mentorandfriend: 2) THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A GENIUS IN MEDICINE.
People usually think that medical students are the most intelligent people. That is partly true. Usually, the most intelligent pool of students from various secondary schools apply to study medicine every year. But when they enter medical school, they must learn to drop the genius myth. We have seen the brightest chap who humbled WAEC and JAMB with high scores drop out from 2nd MBBS exam. Stuffs happen. Get ready for them. In the words of Donald Trump, " There will be no guarantees, but being prepared sure beats being taken unawares." Burn the midnight candle to raise your chances of perpetual success.
Nice article. Which school did you attend?

mentorandfriend: 10) SMART WORK PLUS NETWORK MAKES HARDWORK LOOK ORDINARY.
True talk! I have observed that most lecturers' children pass exams at one sitting, not because they have the questions before the exam day. Far from it. They simply know the secrets of hitting it once. Their parents, who are also doctors share experiences with them and mentor them. While we are killing ourselves with Last's Anatomy textbook, the lecturer's daughter has been told that the questions always come from Keith Moore's Anatomy textbook.
We work hard, they work smart.
They can connect also with their parents' connections (other lecturers) for leverage if they are ever met in a viva room with the same lecturer. You can't resist giving your colleagues daughter maximum marks in oral exams. That's network.

The bolded is the in thing in med school... It's about working smarter and not just harder! Nice write up at OP and more ink to your pen.
But why my own topics with my other monikers never enter front page before na, I don dey suspect them dis Mods

mentorandfriend: What are your strengths? If you are very good in mathematics and physics, but bad in biology, you have to go for engineering.
Sir, I am very good in Biology and even the maths... i had always nurtured this dream of studying either medicine or pharmacy but on the long run I deviated. Chiefly because I think I can't dissect cadavers, Lol, yea, a friend of mine told me about how one would work on real corpses, and I developed a phobia immediately. Is there a branch of medicine that doesn't deal with cadavers

You have to deal with that fear. Human cadavers are preserved with formaldehyde chemical. It is lifeless. Besides you wear gloves to touch them during dissection. No medicine without 18 months of anatomy o. Dont let fear kill your dream.

Not necessarily.
I was lucky not to spend an extra minute in medical school at the University of Ibadan.
ASUU and co. started rearing their ugly head shortly after.

Actually, i wanted to apply for Medicine but, I was told it is more demanding, so I opted for Pharmacy.
Now I want to know if I can change course to Medicine after my first year?

I have a feeling he graduated from either ESUT or UNIZIK...I will bet my salary on ESUT....

Congrats to him.

@OP...nice to know that you embraced God and worked really hard..I give you less than 5 years from now, those nursing students will see your other side cheesy cheesy..We have seen it all...the fear of MBBS exams are the beginning of wisdom..for most medicos, once that nightmares are over, its enjoyment galore....nurses,nursing students,mid-wives,patients relatives shocked..its census....most of you lots turn into the oga kpatakpata of national population commission.

Im talking from experience,i know lots of them who preached from year one till 2nd MBBS.....Then graduated.....then changed grin grin...infact from their final year, you would not believe some of these guys ever stood in front of the class to preach.
