They give the fans what they want to listen to in order to remain relevant. People hardly listen to musicians like Asa, T.Y Bello, Djinee, Paul Play, Sunny Nneji, etc. I bet Dido, Enya, Adele, Lady Antebellum, Coldplay, One Direction, One Republic, Owl City, Maroon 5, e.t.c, would die of hunger if they were singing in Nigeria. 5 Likes |

Wallai the thing tire me too no be small. I'm not so into naija music but yesterday I went to get a haircut and they had Trace Music on. ALL the music videos they showed had girls behinds bouncing all over the place. ALL! From Whizkid to Whiz Khalifa, from Jason Derulo to D'banj, in fact even girl artists like Minaj & Co "Bang Bang"-ed as$es! girls have accepted to be treated as cheap play things of no intrinsic value, mindless transports for as$, b0obz n d other one. And who made these frigging as$-worshippers our stars and idols, who place them on the pedestal of celebrity and grant them access to the glitz and glam? What have they contributed apart from the culmination of indecency and obscenity? Why have we chosen instead to ignore and sideline those advancing humanity; the scientists, engineers, philosophers, authors, teachers and mothers, why don't we celebrate the greats among them? Maybe we are just as dumb as the idols we worship. As for me and my house, we will have Einstein hanging the on wall, not some frigging as$-worshipper. 4 Likes |

OP.In as much as you tried to make sense you didn't really succeed, using the word 'hip-hop' invalidates your points. You said hip-hop and i rushed in thinking you were going to highlight insightful reasons why hip-hop is empty in Nigeria and all i read was the emptiness in pop and afrobeats. If it aint hip-hop its nothing, you mentioned hiphop, why not address hip-hop? |

Typical sunday morning topic! After dancin ur behind off to these songs last night, ur now displaying guilt. Well to answer ur question no its not meaningless I suggest you look past the lyrics n feel the beats, melody and tactical genius it takes to make a hit song! The 'music' is what sells, right? #teamshallowmindz# |

Rapmoney: I used 'hip hop' because I didn't want to use 'music'. Music consists of both native/cultural, gospel, etc. There are lots of naija cultural songs I can kill for; they cut across many Nigerian languages. When it comes to gospel, there are songs and artistes I admire. I can play the likes of Frank Edwards, Chris Morgan, Boniface Adefu, Sinach, etc all dayxo au abt d foreign musicians wu talks abt pussy ,aving ,sex nd d likes.bro, hip hop iz lyk dat nau, only few ppl av actuali gat musical talents |

GreenBobo: Stick to what you like! When Inyanya was doing good music, few Nigerians knew or patronized him! He did kukure n all of a sudden he blew! I get ur point, But It's business and they call it commercial music! May ur wife give birth to twins!! Kai nigerians always complain about empty lyrics but never patronise meaningful artistes. Iyanya is a classical eg. He used to beg for shows back then even when his songs were dope, azin very clean n meaningful lyrics. Yet he earned next to nothing. Bt since him enter kukere now, story change |

slap1: They give the fans what they want to listen to in order to remain relevant.could I disagree here. The US market that brings us Lil Wayne and Minaj also brought us Dido Armstrong and Guru. Music can make money and still make meaning. Our market is maturing, but we must realise that all genres will exist 8 the same space. |

Rapmoney:YES!!! Because those are what our youths focus on... Sometime ago, I think between 2001-2003, Sound Sultan Released "Mathematics" and it was a massive hit then... This same sound sultan in recent times has released "Orobo", "Natural Something" and "VGBG" Why d sudden change?? Because that's what our society demands... Timaya was featured by J-Martins on Good and Bad and it received accolades... Timaya also sang songs like Ogologoma and Yankuluma (is that the title? Have forgotten?) But this same timaya z actually screaming UKWU now because that's what the market asked him to do.. I heard some days back that he was formerly a gospel singer.. So you see what our Society have turned a gospel singer to.. M not trying to say that gospel musicians ain't making it, but you can't compare the market demand for secular music to that of gospel music.. Our Nyansh and boobs musicians are the ones driving in porsche and bentley.. They are the ones living the good life.. P-square z wealthier than Frank Edwards, Sinach, Gozie Okeke, Paul Nkwocha and Chinyere Udoma Combined... So you see the reason why our hip-hop music industry z d way it is... 1 Like |
