[left]Ahead of the 2015 governorship race in Rivers State, Mr. Andy Briggs, has said Senator Magnus Abe, if given the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket, will be the antidote to Nyesom Wike’s quest for the governorship seat under the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).
Briggs, who disclosed this in a statement on his news blog, said the assertion was anchored on the fact that the only politician in Amaechi’s camp whose accumulated influence and savvy can carpet Wike or any other candidate put forward by the PDP is Senator Magnus Abe.
buttressing his position, he said: “Amaechi’s stalwarts no longer deny that their leader’s worst political move was elevating Wike to Chief of Staff. To some, it was as bad as a deal made with the devil. Perhaps, Amaechi may finally escape the disastrous effect of that move through the agency of another figure (Abe) whom he had elevated the same day to Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
“Though Amaechi could not see the future when he made Wike Chief of Staff; he may have unwittingly taken out insurance by making Wike’s antidote the SSG. If Wike is smart, Magnus Abe is probably smarter but not as aggressive. Wike is single-minded, Abe is pragmatic. Wike can repel sensitive people, Abe is more discerning,” Briggs emphasised.
“Wike has executive government experience; Abe has
executive and legislative government experience. Wike will probably crush people’s civil rights including press
freedom. Abe is more comfortable with deploying oratory and a superior argument. Wike is apoplectic and blustery.
Abe is a natural orator and communicator,” he stressed.
He added that whatever chunk of Ikwerre that Wike may
prise away from Amaechi is neutralised by a bloc Ogoni
vote for an Abe. The votes of the Kalabari and other riverine bastion become decisive in such a scenario.
The veteran publisher, described Abe as a man bound byhis word, a decent man, a core Christian, a committed and dedicated Nigerian from the marginalised Ogoni area, a symbol of humility, a citadel of wisdom, a man of stable character, a loyal party man and an astute politician.
The Kalabari born journalist, who said he was neither an
APC nor a PDP member, noted that his people suffered
severe setback under Governor Peter Odili but blamed it on Kalabari politicians who had the power to make a
difference at the time.[
