Are software patents evil?

Some of know about the infamous one-click patent by Amazon. Should such frivolous patents be allowed? Do software patents inhibit innovation and creativity? Have you any personal experience with either the evil or good of software patents? Should software trolls be allowed to even exist in our society? Please lets discuss

It's a good idea, especially if you're into commercial software development to understand what patents are and also learn to search the various patents, just to be safe. Cos if your little piece of software blows up and makes big bucks, be sure you're gonna have "haters" trying to exploit your business.

There is really nothing wrong with software patent. Its just another way of making money from software devpt. However there is the option of Open Source but the reality is that this part of the world is not yet matured 4 open source market.
