I am just thinking about this. There seems to be a curse about seeking for the office of the president in Nigeria. Those who deliberately set their minds on being the president of Nigeria never ever occupies the office.

Let's look at the examples below.

Shehu Shagari wanted to be a senator but the powers that be had other plans for him. He was drafted into the presidential race and won with the aid of the powers that be.

Awolowo's major ambition was to be the president of Nigeria and he took steps to achieve this but he failed to rule Nigeria.

Obasanjo was weeping and wailing as he was forced to become military head of state after the assassination of his boss Murtala mohammed.

Moshood Abiola wanted to become president. He campaigned and won the 1993 elections but was not allowed to rule even for one day by the military regime of Ibrahim Babanginda.

Chief Ernest Shonekan was brought in from nowhere to head the interim national government for 81 days before being kicked out by the dark googled one, Abacha.

Obasanjo was ferried out of prison by the powers that be in 1999 and imposed on the country as its president after a sham election.

When Obasanjo deliberately wanted a third term, his bid was foiled by the senate despite the huge "Ghana must go bags" that were distributed.

Umaru Musa Yaradua was heading to the lecture room to teach chemistry lecturer after the expiration of his tenure at government house Katsina. He was accosted on the way by Obasanjo and imposed on the country as its president in 2007 after the worst elections in the history of Nigeria.

Yaradua died due to ill health and a reluctant vice president who was also handpicked and imposed on the country by Obasanjo was sworn in as president.

The rest is now history.

Buhari has been campaigning for years now to be the president of a democratic Nigeria but he keeps on being rejected at the polls. However he is hoping to give it a last shot in 2015.

Atiku Abubakar has also been eyeing the seat of the president but he always meets a brickwall whether in Pdp or Apc.

Maybe Buhari will never be president, maybe Atiku will never be president, maybe Goodluck Jonathan will not win the 2015 elections because for you to be the president of Nigeria, you must either be reluctant and cajoled to contest for the office, be imposed by higher powers on the country or simply be lucky to find yourself in the right place and at the right time.

President Jonathan WANTED to be elected in 2011, and he got his wish. I believe he is the first person to originally seek the office an dbe successful in the pursuit of his ambition.

Your political antagonism made mess of ur nice facts.
I am not concerned about any of them mind you, but if Obj seeked 2nd term and won like others, it disproves ur pessimisizm over Jona then.

Don't forget that he was already in power at that time as substantial president. If he was standing for the election as a green horn he would probably had lost to Buhari.
