The much expected clash between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Sudan will come up this saturday.

The game was earlier slated for Omdurman has now been moved by the Sudanes FA to the Municipal Stadium in Khartoum.

Title :AFCON 2015 Qualifiers
date : Saturday 11 Oct 2014
Venue:the Municipal Stadium Khartoum

Nigeria must beat Sudan in Omdurman on Saturday to be back in contention for a place at next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The African champions are third in Group A with a point from two games and behind Congo and South Africa, who have recorded six and four points, respectively.

The African champions therefore find themselves in a must-win situation in their next qualifying game on Saturday in Sudan.

The Eagles will be without Stoke City forward Victor Moses, who has suffered a recurrence of a thigh problem at his English Premier League club, and Ukraine-based winger Babatunde Michael, who is nursing a knee injury.

Questions rather than praise have greeted Keshi’s invitation for several uncapped players including China-based striker Aaron Samuel and Reading midfielder Hope Akpan.

However, skipper Vincent Enyeama has rejoined the squad after he stayed away to attend to what team officials said were “pressing personal problems”.

Star-studded Nigeria will also have to cope with boiling temperatures and a late switch for the game to be played on an artificial pitch in Sudan.

“Personally, I prefer playing on a natural grass pitch, but we just have to adjust, be smarter and work on our timing when we play on astro turf and we will be okay,” said Monaco defender Elderson Echiejile, who will be visiting Sudan for the first time.

“And as for the weather, we are first and foremost Nigerians and born in Africa and so we should also be able to cope on the day.”

Middlesbrough defender Kenneth Omeruo said there will be no margin for error against Sudan in both games
"We are aware of the task ahead and so we have resolved to work hard to pick the available 12 points in our remaining qualifiers,” said Omeruo

"The response of the players from the first day of training speaks loud of our intention ahead of the games. All we ask of Nigerians is their support.

“We also know there are no minnows anymore in African football."

Both countries have clashed 11 times and Nigeria have won six of these meetings, drawn four times and lost once to the Sudanese.

The only Nigeria loss to Sudan was in was in 1963, when they fell 4-0 in a 1964 Nations Cup qualifier, while the last meeting was in a friendly in 2008 which Nigeria won 2-0.

Nigeria ran away 4-0 winners on their last visit to Sudan in a 2002 World Cup qualifier 13 years ago with Yakubu Aiyegbeni grabbing a brace

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has picked Dolphins forward Emem Eduok as a late replacement for injured Stoke City winger Victor Moses ahead of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier double-header against Sudan.

Moses, who was invited for the two qualifying games against Sudan, have been ruled out of the tie after he suffered a re-occuring thigh injury in Stoke City's game against Sunderland on Saturday.

Eduok, who is a former Flying Eagles player notified Goal, on Monday morning of his invitation.

“I didn't hear about [call-up] it until my coach [Stanley Eguma] informed me about the call up before our game against Abia Warriors on [yesterday] Sunday,” Eduok told Goal.

Eduok will be hoping to make his international debut for Nigeria in the crucial home and away fixtures at the Khartoum Stadium, Khartoum on Saturday and the National Stadium, Abuja on Wednesday respectively.

Nigeria need to get the title defence hopes back on track accuring six points against pointless Sudan after they managed only a point from two games in Group A.

Congo are group leaders with six points from two games, while South Africa are second with four points in two matches

Ex-Nigeria international Taribo West has warned the Super Eagles should expect a hostile reception from Sudan when they clash in an AFCON qualifier on Saturday.
He said the African champions should expect a lot of distractions from their hosts, but they must be steadfast and concentrate on the job on the pitch.

"Eagles must respect Sudan and not take them for granted. They should expect the hosts to be hostile to them, they will do everything to intimidate them in all aspects in order to see that the Eagles do not win,” said Taribo.

The former AC Milan and Auxerre star said he expects Nigeria to employ counter attacks to beat Sudan on Saturday.

"Eagles must stay back and use counter attacks to get the goals. I was there the last time we beat Sudan 4-0 and I see us winning this game also," Taribo said on a radio interview in Lagos.
Nigeria won 4-0 in Sudan in 2001 in a 2002 World Cup qualifier

Meanwhile the Sudanese FA has moved Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Super Eagles to the Municipal Stadium in Khartoum
The game earlier slated for Omdurman will now see the African champions face their hosts on an artificial turf as they hope to re-launch their bid to qualify for the 2015 Afcon billed for Morocco.

Others are Austin Ejide, Ogenyi Onazi, Babatunde Michael, Efe Ambrose, Ighodaro Osagouna, Gbolahan Salami and Chigozie Agbim

AS the Nigeria National team the Super Eagles tackle their Sudanese counterpart on Saturday in a make or mar first leg tie of the 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifier, two former ex-players, Etim Esin and Friday Ekpo have expressed diverse opinions on the chances of the Stephen Keshi tutored squad beating the Sudanese under a scorching hard weather.

“As far as this game is concern, the Sudanese have not gotten that football artistry to stop the Super Eagles from picking the 2015 AFCON ticket, despite our mistakes in the past two games. If they like, let them parade all their best professionals for this game, the Super Eagles will beat them right in front of their home supporters.

Sudan’s preparations suffered a huge setback.

Sudan’s preparations for their crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Super Eagles have suffered a huge setback.

The Sudanese were planning a test match against Uganda however the Uganda FA has called off the friendly earlier slated for October 6.
Edgar Watson, the FA’s Chief Executive officer told URN that although the Sudan FA had requested that this game takes place on October
6th in Khartoum, FUFA requested that the hosts meet some of the logistical expenses.

“We accepted to have the game, but when we wrote back requesting that they cater for some of the logistical aspects, they failed to do. We have put the game off,” he told MTNFootball.com
Both Uganda and Sudan were hoping to firm their strategies for their next 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers this month.

Having cancelled the friendly, Uganda will shift focus to their qualifier against Togo on October 11 in Kampala.
On their part, Sudan will now concentrate fully on the Eagles clash as they hope for their first point(s) in the qualifying series having suffered back-to-back losses in their games against South Africa and Congo
