BR€AST CANCER Amongst Nigerian Women by Nobody: 9:40pm On Oct 08, 2014
Hello everyone,
Let me start by saying I have br.east cancer (IDC) of the right breast, lumpectomy, mastectomy , no reconstruction, local recurrence and awaiting chemotherapy at the age of 22.

Yeah I know it sounds very impossible but truth is its 100% possible. I understand most of us might not be familiar with some terms about cancer but I will keep it simple and comprehensible.

Every woman has br.east (a pair lol) and at some point in every woman life cycle some women will have breast cancer. There is no particular cause yet but br.east cancer is curable when detected early.

Straight to my motive of this post. This past six months of my life has only taught me that breast cancer is no respecter of ladies and it could be anyone. Anyone from a 10 year old to a 70 year old. Funny enough men also suffer from b.reast cancer but there are only rare cases.

I'm here to enlighten women of all ages about b.reast cancer. There's no known prevention and no particular cure, but early cancer with good prognosis are curable.

I appeal to everyone (the males pls dont say I'm exempted help a lady) to endeavour to have their breast regularly examined either by their personal doctors or a friend, family, or even by themselves. It saves a life. It saved mine.

How to do it: rub around the b.reast in a circular pattern and feel for lumpiness or any form of hardness no matter how small.

you can also check for the look of the nipple. An inverted nipple requires questioning
Also check if there are discharge around the nipple

Redness is also an alert for br.east cancer. Let me put it simply that br.east cancer are the cells in the br
east that grow at an abnormal rate.

To share my experience I have opened a blog and it's not for the sole purpose of money making. It's for sharing my journey through the cancer world , sharing my experience, pain , depression, inspirations and achievement while inspiring a fellow breast cancer sufferer.

Before nairaland was hacked I met a girl here my age who had this same type of br.east cancer and a couple of people with other you of cancers. So I want to believe there are people like that suffering in silence and are scarred to share their plight. If you need someone to talk to feel free to PM or something.

I will be waiting to hear from you and hopefully we will be survivors someday with a clean bill of health.
Sorry for the long post.

Hi there lovely one, first of all I just want to say that you are a beautiful breath of fresh air on this forum. You are very brave and I'm lost for words, may I give you an e-hug? *Gives her a huge loving hug*

I have a close friend who was diagnosed in February, I know you have been through and conquered so much just by knowing her experience. Thanks for this awareness you are sharing with women, I will share your story with my friend to help encourage her and keep you both in my prayers.

God bless you real good smiley smiley smiley

It's very unfortunate and hard to believe when they actually make the diagnosis and they start making statements about having sugery to remove the b.reast where the cancer is. I hope you friend is kicking well now.
Too bad there isn't any specialised cancer forums in nigeria.

She isn't alone. Please keep encouraging her. The fight against this disease isn't easy. It's a whole new life basically.

God bless u too

Nice one Candygosh. I'm happy you're doing fine. I must say you're a strong lady.

There are many women out there dying in silence. Some have lost the strength to carry on while some have lost hope completely.
But I'm glad you've decided to come out and use your story to help others with the same condition and educate those that are yet to be diagnosed.
This will surely serve as an encouragement to a lot of women to fight through it, especially young ladies like you.

As with every other medical condition/illness, early detection is the key.

God bless and have a nice day.

She's having a double mastectomy this month, they harvested and froze her eggs in April, I'm trying to be strong for her but I end up crying most times, she's too young for this. I'll see her again on Saturday and will definitely show her this page, I already told her your story last night, you are such an inspiration smiley

Thanks!

Yes like I said there a ladies out there with breast cancer. A lot of ladies overlook warning signs of breast cancer.

The basic truth is many ladies out there have a different type of breast cancer that don't even give symptoms. The symptoms start manifesting at a later age . If you go to most hospitals around the ages you will find there are 30 and above most of them with advanced b.cancer and poor prognosis.

I noticed mine March cos I ve often paid attention to my body and I could tell the lump was so small it could hardly be felt but still I didn't brush it aside I went to my doctor and he probably passed it off as fibroadenoma a non cancerous lump until report came back as invasive ductal carcinoma.

A lady I met here just had mastectomy today and having been through it I could tell what she feels right where she is.

Help our ladies. It beings with u

I'm waiting to talk to her if it's possible. I have heard of harvesting the eggs so I guess her cancer is hormone related probably HER2.

She should just hold on tight. The battle is difficult but in the end it's going to we'll and she comes out a victor.

I hope she's got lots of encouragement not just from you but others. I haven't come across any HER2 before cos it's often rare. Now I understand her opting for bilateral mastectomy . She has to be really strong.

Harvesting the eggs is better. Send my hug to her. There are sad tales to mastectomy but it ends with smile.

She shouldn't waste time in getting the cancer removed before it spreads to other organs.

Hello xcelsia, how is ur friend doing today? Thr is this book 'Halleluyah diet' I read wen I was still in denial, lol. I recommend that she reads, I found some of the information in it really helpful but I wouldnt advice her to go as extreme as prescribed in d book else she'll starve. Chemotherapy destroys both healthy and cancer cells, her best bet is to improve her diet so as to help her healthy cells recover very quickly thereby boosting her immunity

Nice thread....

Let me share my experiences with you...

I have once managed a case of breast cancer, stage IIIA. During that time, NMA was on strike, so she was admitted to our hospital where i worked. All the treatment we gave then ws purely palliative: relieve pain, treat infections, check anaemia, etc until we invited the specialist. He started chemo, but the poor lady had no money, since some of those anti-cancer drugs are crazily expensive...

Well, when NMA resumed, we referred to a teaching hospital, never heard from her since then...

The thing is, early detetction is the key... Ignorance is no excuse, all women must learn how to do a comprehensive breasttt self examination (BSE) every month, after taking a bath immediately after your cycle....

I lost my mom to cancer (not breasttt tho) so i know how it feels...
