overhypedsteve:
the NA air unit would be needing a lot of Gunships, mediovacs choppers, transports aircraft, drones for surveillance and recon and dedicated ISR compliant assets for surveillance.
I don't think the NA should bother itself now about having too many fixed wings aircraft let them focus more on close air support and transport.
sure but the will need jets for fast fire support to troops in combats. We could still modify some of our abandoned c130 in ilorin(last time I saw them) to carry heavy MG

Do you mean the same F15 strike eagle manufactured in 1988,I wonder why some of you just start calling names of aircrafts like cars that are manufactured every year, these planes are been upgraded with new tech every now and then, also note that the average cost of an F15 is around 100M dollars, now do you want a Nigerian govt to buy just an aircraft with such amount of money when millions are living beow 10 dollars per day, what will it cost to maintain just one aircraft and what happens if the Bokos suddenly buy a couple of surface to air missiles in the black market and decide to drop more than 100million dollars on our head.

And to those who believe that American planes don't crash unlike our so called outdated planes in Nigeria, the list below show some crashes involving the F15E many of you are claiming the NAF should purchase, kindly note that some of them are combat losses to inferior forces.

On the first day of operation Desert Storm an F-15E was shot down by anti-aircraft artillery.[4]

On the third day of operation Desert Storm an F-15E was shot down by a Soviet made SA-2E missile. Both crew members were lost.[4]
On 18 April 1995, F-15E tail #89-0504 lost during a training flight off the coast of North Carolina. The WSO, Capt Dennis White was killed during the ejection; the pilot, Capt Brian Udell survived the fastest known ejection at over 780mph.[5]

In May 1995, Major Donald Lowry was killed when his F-15 crashed at Spangdahlem AFB in Germany. Investigation showed that during routine maintenance, mechanics had crossed and mis-connected the control rods. One of the mechanics was charged with negligent homicide and took his own life during his military trial.[6]

On 22 November 1995, during air-intercept training over the Sea of Japan, a Japanese F-15J flown by Lt. Tatsumi Higuchi was shot down by an AIM-9L Sidewinder missile accidentally fired by his wingman. The pilot ejected safely. Both F-15Js involved were from JASDF 303rd Squadron, Komatsu AFB.[7]
On 21 October 1998, F-15E tail #89-0497, assigned to the 391st Fighter Squadron at Mountain Home, ID, was lost on a night terrain-following training sortie. Both crewmembers were killed: pilot Lt Col William "Willy" aka "Skunk" Morel and WSO, Capt Jeff "Flounder" Fahnlander.[8]

On 7 April 2003, F-15E 88-1694/SJ of 4th FW/335th FS crashed during a combat bombing mission near Tikrit, Iraq. Both the pilot, Capt. Eric Das of Amarillo, Texas and Weapon Systems Officer (WSO), Major William R. Watkins III of South Boston, VA were killed. From the investigation of the crash site neither man tried to eject, and the aircraft was destroyed in the crash.[13]

On 4 June 2003, F-15E 87-0186 of the 334th FS crashed in an unpopulated wooded area near Seymour Johnson AFB. The Mishap Crew ejected and sustained only minor injuries. The crash was due to a malfunction of the right stabilator which caused the aircraft to go into an unrecoverable spin.[14]

On 18 July 2009, a U.S. Air Force F-15E 90-0231 Strike Eagle crashed in central Afghanistan, killing the two crew members, the U.S. military said.[29]

On 22 March 2011, F-15E 91-0304 from RAF Lakenheath crashed near Benghazi, Libya in Operation Odyssey Dawn. Both crewmen ejected safely and were recovered by friendly forces. Equipment problems with weapons interface software and the right external fuel tank led to a strong right-wing weight imbalance, which caused the aircraft to enter a flat spin during a low-speed, high altitude, 100 degree bank-angle right turn. The mishap investigation board found the cause of the crash to be lack of published knowledge on F-15E maneuvering with large external store weight imbalances at high altitude.[30]

But did they tell you they used this particular machine for the operation? When you see something like this it is just paraphernalia, used to connect the issue under discussion.

When you hear the Americans are hitting ISIS in Kobane, showing you an American soldier with AK47 does not mean that he is the one bombing Kobane but just to connect American army with whatever that represents them to the issue at hand.

No,they shouldn't spend $100m to protect their country from terrorists and other forms of invasion. But the different presidents that have led us in the past can siphon hundreds of millions of dollars into swiss accounts. I wonder when isreal became so rich that they can have what Nigeria can't have in their defence arsenal.

Well,i never said naija should buy F15s, I'm just saying most of our planes and military hardwares are old. If they feel they can only afford Chengdu F-7s,they should get the recent and upgraded variants, not keep using the ones that are outdated. I'm sure u must av read that a number of the fighters and some drones purchaced from isreal in our inventory are now unserviceable.

The NAF already has 12 J7 and 2 F7 aircrafts in their inventory, check the analysis in my posts.I feel the problem we should all agree on is updating the planes they have in stock and making sure we've the right people in charge, the rot in the military didn't just start today,it has been there since the 70s.

Yeah,we know accidents happen, but these countries engage enemies in strike missions countless of times in a year. In d last 20 years, how many times has naija fighter jets gone on strike missions?

Suddenly, we are using jets for missions and its maybe d 2nd or 3rd strike mission in 20 years, and there's already a crash.

Do u believe in statistics?...at this rate,we'll lose all fighter pilots b4 we secure 1 village in Bornu state grin
