for a while now, this issue has caused lots of arguments among Christians.
in my opinion, I will say no and yes.
no in the sense that if you are a Christian and you are going back to your old self and yet you are claiming you are still saved.
James 5:19-20
My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the
truth and someone brings him back, let him know that
whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will
save his soul from death and will cover a multitude
of sins.
Rev 2:21-29
“To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: ‘The
words of him who holds the seven stars in his right
hand, who walks among the seven golden lampstands.
“‘I know your works, your toil and your patient
endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who
are evil, but have tested those who call themselves
apostles and are not, and found them to be false. I
know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for
my name's sake, and you have not grown weary. But
I have this against you, that you have abandoned the
love you had at first. Remember therefore from
where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you
did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove
your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.

also, I say yes if you are a Christian in your new self struggling with sin and still pressing on towards the prize. God has promised us he will see us to the end.
John 10:27-30
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they
follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will
never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my
hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is
greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them
out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one.”
Phil 1:6
He who has begun a good work in you will complete it
until the day of Jesus Christ"

Note this two views does not contradict each other, even Paul admitted these both instructions.
The same Paul that
could triumphantly state that he was convinced that
nothing in all creation "shall be able to separate us
from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our
Lord" (Romans 8:38-39), could also write, "Therefore
I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not
fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body
and make it my slave so that after I have preached
to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the
prize" (1 Cor. 9:26-27).
He understands that even though he is doing the work of God, he still has the sinful flesh in him and therefore his aim is to mortify the deeds of the flesh.

just like you where taught that 1+1=2 and you know it, you can be taught to deny ungodliness and wordly lusts and you will avoid it completely. it can teach you to live godly completely. this is the true beauty of the grace of God. . even if you just wake up, you will always know that 1+1 is 2.

Heb_12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

The world is suffering today because many people that had this promise- Joh_15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. - refused to abide.- Joh_15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love..
If you want to abide keep His commandments.

1Ti_4:16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee

but he came short of it because He did not abide in Jesus
