Cement is a very essential commodity in Nigeria and hardly has a close substitute. This renders the commodity always in demand come rain or sun. People will always build no matter what the weather is in a country like Nigeria with a population of over 160million homosapiens..

Yet this commodity is grossly over priced like every other commodity in the Nigerian market when compared with prices in neighboring African countries.

One company always plays to the gallery with the price of cement in Nigeria. It is either they are bringing out a new grade(and raising the price to the knowledge of distributors only) or they are reducing the price on pages of newspaper thereby shutting supply to create artificial scarcity.

Right now, after the announcement of a new price for cement, so many buyers have put their projects on hold waiting for when the price of one bag of cement will be sold for N1,000. Haha, it will be after second tenure in May 2019...

The truth is goods in the hands of distributors must finish before the new price will take effect. Now the new cement price protagonists have stopped bringing goods to the market, of course they have to, because no one wants to lose money. Let them refund their distributors the excess payments. Then they can commence business on a new price slate.

But Larfarge being Dangote cement closest competitor isn't sleeping. They have been moving their 800 bag trucks in droves into the market. They can't allow the market to hang in limbo. Experienced builders, Engineers and Block moulders who aren't swayed by market gimmicks must continue their work in the spirit of, " He who works not, should not eat ".

Right now, cement sellers and resellers are bearing the brunt till the new price stabilizes. The truth is that this new price war is an extention of the the cement grading hoax. 32.5 R and 42.5R.

Dangote wants the grading of cement to be recognized. He wants pricing to be determined by the grade one is buying. What Dangote cement is saying in essence is Ibeto, Lafarge and Unicem, please make una bring down una 32.5 R cement price to N1,000 per bag while I sell my 42.5 R grade at N1,308.

Please these companies should comply so that Piss will Rain..
