TheNaijan:
A new book titled 'The Lost Gospel' claims Jesus married his 'soul-mate' Mary Magdalene and they had two children together.
'The Lost Gospel' also alleges there was an unknown plot on Jesus' life 13 years before his crucifixion and an assassination attempt on Mary Magdalene and their children.

Professor of religious studies Barrie Wilson and historical writer Simcha Jacobovici based these claims on a manuscript dating back 1,450 years which they discovered in the British Library.

They spent months translating the ancient text and have controversially said that the original Virgin Mary was Jesus's wife, not his mother.

The book also elaborates on Jesus's alleged connections to top political figures in the Roman Empire such as Emperor Tiberius and his best friend, the soldier Sejanus.
However, the Church of England said the work shares more in common Da Vinci Code than Matthew, Mark, Luke or John.
It provides the first translation from Syriac into English of ancient manuscript, The Ecclesiastical History of Zacharias Rhetor (of Mytilene).
This has been at the British Museum and then the British Library for nearly 170 years and will lead some to question why it was not translated before now.
Mary Magdalene was a prominent figure at the two most important moments in the story of Jesus - the crucifixion and the resurrection.
She is remembered in popular culture as a prostitute and was portrayed by the Catholic Church as the ideal penitent because she supposedly anointed the feet of Jesus.
In 2012 a fragment of ancient papyrus was also discovered which is thought to support the explosive suggestion....

Bingo!
Especially to the bolded in red.

The cult of Mary, mother of Jesus, in the catholic tradition was originated primarily to counter and replace the cult of Mary, bride of Jesus.
They succeeded.

Yeah, I have great doubts that Jesus, as presented in the bible, existed.
But the cult and religion erected in his name are real and self-evident , and is worthy of being debated.

Author's
Background Flavius Josephus (AD 37-100),
was born into a priestly Jewish family.
He was a Pharisee and a historian for the Roman empire. He wrote
several famous works, among them are: Antiquities of the Jews and the Wars of the Jews. Historians say Josephus was not a Christian. Reference To Jesus Christ Now, there was about this time Jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to call
him a man. For he was a doer of surprising feats - a teacher of such
men as receive the truth with pleasure. He drew over to him both
many of the Jews and many of the Gentiles. He was [the] Christ; and
when Pilate, at the suggestion of the principal men amongst us, had
condemned him to the cross, those that loved him at the first did not forsake him, for he appeared to them alive again the third day, as the
divine prophets had foretold these and ten thousand other wonderful
things concerning him; and the tribe of Christians, so named from him,
are not extinct to this day.* - Flavius Josephus, Antiquities of the Jews 18.3.3 Josephus bears witness to John as having been a baptist, and as
promising purification to those who underwent the rite. Now this
writer, although not believing in Jesus as the Christ, in seeking after the
cause of the fall of Jerusalem and the destruction of the temple,
whereas he ought to have said that the conspiracy against Jesus was
the cause of these calamities befalling the people, since they put to death Christ, who was a prophet . . . - Origen, Origen Against Celsus 1.47, see footnote [1] Josephus, at least, has not hesitated to testify to this in his writings,
where he says, ". . . For the Jews slew him, although he was a most just
man - Eusebius. Church History of Eusebius.
Conclusion:
This reference reveals several key things:
1) Jesus was known as a wise man and was highly
regarded.
2) Apparently Josephus is referring to Jesus' miracles.
3) Jesus was a teacher of truth for many Jews and Gentiles.
4) Jesus was killed on a cross by Pontius Pilate.
5) Jesus appeared alive the third day after being killed. 6) Predictions by the prophets came true in Christ.
7) Jesus is the Christ or Messiah.

Flaws in the whole thing

1.The document was produced long after the gospels were produced...especially Q.

2.There is a lot of special pleading here....

First the story was about Joseph, son of Jacob and his wife Asenath, and ther two sons....Mannaseh and Ephraim...But then...according to the Mail...

Jacobovici decided to look more deeply into Joseph and Aseneth, when he compared their story with other Old Testament tales.

In order to test the British Library documents, the researchers used hi-tech digital imaging to photograph them 13 times. They then got the manuscript translated for the first time from Syriac into English.

There have been other, later, versions of the Joseph and Aseneth story, written in Latin and Greek, which have been preserved in monasteries. But by returning to the ancient Syriac, Wilson and Jacobovici say it was possible to read the text as it was intended and to decode the hidden story.

Central to their claim is that Joseph was actually Jesus — and that Aseneth was actually Mary Magdalene.

The new translation, according to Jacobovici and Wilson, records that the Pharaoh of Egypt officiated at the wedding between the couple, saying to Aseneth: ‘Blessed are you by the Lord God of Joseph, because he is the first-born of God, and you will be called the Daughter of God Most High and the bride of Joseph now and for ever.’

In other words....he claims that it is a story about Joseph and Asenath....then without proof...immediately assumes that Jesus and Mary of Magdala are being referred to.

I don't know what this is....but it does sound like special pleading to me.That , and a lot of assumptions.

Jesus was not married. Full stop.
