Bangalore: The moment one hears the term ‘Currency’, a U.S. dollar floats before one’s eyes. This is so because the U.S. dollar rules world trade and so it is always in limelight. But did you know there are other currencies which are even more valuable than the U.S. dollar? Here are top 10 most valuable currencies of the world. They are ranked according to their value against dollar. Even though they stand to be most valuable, it does not mean that these currencies have better investment options or that it represents good economic health of a nation. These rankings are strictly based on their exchange rates, which could fluctuate easily. So let’s check out list below:
1. Kuwaiti Dinar
One Kuwaiti Dinar (KWD) is $3.65 = Rs.184.32
The Kuwaiti Dinar is the official currency of Kuwait. Its currency code is KWD. It is sub divided into 1000 fils. With the value of $3.65 U.S., It is the highest-valued currency unit in the world. The dinar was introduced to replace the Gulf rupee in 1961. Initially it was equivalent to Pound Sterling. Kuwait along with other five Gulf Arab monarchies, is in talks this year to form a single currency.
2. Maltese Pound
One Maltese Lira (MTL) is $3.50 = Rs.176.75
The Maltese Pound or lira was the currency of Malta from 1972 until 31 December 2007. It is abbreviated as Lm and has its symbol is ?. It is subdivided into 100 cents or 1000 mil. The Euro replaced the Maltese lira as the official currency of Malta from 2008 onwards. The Central Bank of Malta has its monetary authority. With Maltese Pound or lira, Malta has the second most expensive currency with it.
3. Bahraini Dinar
One Bahraini Dinar (BHD) is $2.66 = Rs.134.33
The Dinar is the currency of Bahrain and thus called as the Bahraini Dinar. It is subdivided into 1000 fils. The name dinar derives from the Roman denarius. The Dinar in Bahraini was introduced in 1965, replacing the Gulf rupee. Central Bank of Bahrain has the monetary authority of Bahraini Dinar. Bahrain is a small island nation with almost 3.5 times the area of Washington D.C. and mostly relies on petroleum production, refining, and financial services and construction as well. With an value equal to $2.66 U.S., it has the third most valuable currency in the world.
4. Omani Rial
One Omani Rial (OMR) is $2.60 = Rs.131.30
The rial is the currency of Oman. It is subdivided into 1000 baisa. Indian Rupee and Maria Theresa Thaler (locally known as rial), were main currencies in Muscat and Oman before 1940. In 1970, the rial saidi was made the currency of Oman. This small country on the east coast of Africa has the fourth most valuable currency with a value equal to $2.60 U.S, since 1986.

5. Cyprus Pound
One Cyprus Pound (CYP) is $2.53 = Rs.127.76
The Cyprus Pound also known as the lira was the currency of Cyprus until 31 December 2007. It was replaced by Euro as official currency of the Republic of Cyprus on 1 January 2008. One Cyprus Pound is subdivided into 100 cents or 1000 mil. Its symbol is £. Cyprus is a small island which mostly lives on tourism but still has the fifth most expensive currency with a value equal to $2.53 U.S.
6. Latvian Lats
One Latvian Lats (LVL) is $2.135 = Rs.107.81
Latvian Lats is the currency of Latvia. It is abbreviated as Ls and has a currency code LVL. The Lats is subdivided into 100 santimi. Latvia is a small country about the size of West Virginia. The Lats was first introduced in 1922, replacing the Latvian rublis at a rate of 1 Lats = 50 rub?i. Latvia has been a member of the European Union since 2004. It is also a member of Economic and Monetary Union of the European Union. It is the sixth most powerful and valuable currency in the world.
7. U.K. Pound Sterling
One U.K. Pound Sterling (GBP) is $2.068 = Rs.104.43
The Pound Sterling, commonly known as Pound is the official currency of United Kingdom. It is subdivided into 100 pence. The official name Pound Sterling is used mainly in formal contexts and to distinguish it from other United Kingdom currencies with same name. It is the seventh most powerful currency in the world which is equal to $2.068 U.S.
8. Euro
One EURO (EUR) equals to $1.482 = Rs.74.84
The Euro is the official currency of the eurozone that is 17 member states out of 27 of the European Union. Its Central Bank is ‘European Central Bank’ which uses Euro. Its currency code is EUR and its currency sign is €. Euro is subdivided into 100 cents. Euro was officially introduced in 1999.

9. Jordanian Dinar
One Jordanian Dinar (JOD) is $1.4118 = Rs.71.29
Jordanian Dinar is the Currency of Jordan. Its currency code is JOD. The Jordanian dinar is subdivided into 10 dirham, 100 qirsh or 1000 fils. The Jordanian Dinar was introduced in 1940s in Jordan’s rule to balance with his Palestinian Pound, which he used till then. His Jordanian dinar continued to be used in the West Bank along with the Israeli currency even after Israel took control of it in 1967. Jordan may lack water and crude oil but has the ninth most valuable currency in the world.
10. Cayman Islands Dollar
One Cayman Islands Dollar (KYD) is $1.21 = Rs.61.10
As the name suggests, it is the currency of the Cayman Islands. It is symbolized as CI$ and its currency code is KYD. It is subdivided into 100 cents. It is the tenth most high-valued currency of the world. The Cayman Islands dollar was introduced in 1972. Cayman Islands don’t have any direct taxation; hence it prospered as an offshore financial centre, with hundreds of banks, insurers and mutual funds. The Cayman Islands dollar has been associated to the United States dollar as 1 Cayman Islands dollar = 1.2 U.S. dollars since 1 April 1974.
