Marek Cygan  wins Google code jam 2005. This is a competition Google host every year to promote computer science. He is a student from warsaw university.

The languages includes: Java, C++, C# or VB.NET. He won $10,000 after competing with 14,500 candidate from around the world, what a terrific performance.

Programmers in the house, this is a challenge for us.

This Summer of Code thingy will surely bring more stuff to the open source community.

Though i ain't a coder, but i don't see a Nigerian winning this ASAP.

Well, if we can develop ourselves and be exposed... I think we can take it as a challenge.

Some of the problem is dat; some of the youth dat are surppose to be thinking in this way, are thinking the wrong way.

But I see us getting closer, though slowly.

The nurseries for software innovation (universities) are nothing but book-cramming houses (and for God's sake 1970s books!)

In this age of ever dynamic computer innovations, I used to wonder why we are still so backward.

The so called NITDA is nothing but a seminar seminar body - no innovation, nothing nothing.

It's very funny recently one of my cousins (she studied Computer Science) finished her youth service last month. I found it so funny to know that she did not even know how to open her yahoo e-mail box; and same goes for 90% of other graduates too.

Its too much, book book book.. less practical(if at all). I guess wat they are breeding. Since wat people value most in nigeria is certificate not capability. Well think its on the way to a change. And very soon its all gonna be story wen dey see that they are not market-worthy.
