France cancels transit visa for Nigerian passengers

By Oyetunji Abioye

Nigerian passport holders with visas to the United States, Canada, Switzerland, Japan and all countries in the European Union (United Kingdom and Ireland inclusive) no longer need transit visa to connect in Paris, France.

A statement from the spokesperson, Air France, Moyo Areola, said that starting from last Tuesday, passengers travelling through Paris' Charles de Gaulle Airport to any of the listed destinations, holding valid visas for their final destinations would no longer require airport transit visa.

The French carrier said it had noted that transit visa was among the top hindrances to its frequent flyers, adding that Nigerian passengers had their final destinations beyond Paris.

Areola noted that it was important to offer passengers a smooth transfer at Charles de Gaulle, and that the development would further promote the place as the preferred hub in Europe.

She said, "Nigerians will no longer need transit visa to fly with Air France. This will not only save passengers a lot of time but also save them money. Transit visa has been an impediment to a lot of Air France passengers with impromptu travel needs. This recent development makes impromptu hassle-free travel plans possible for Air France passengers."

According to the General Manager, Air France-KLM, Mr Jean-Marie Cornetto, the development was to further strengthen the relationship between the airline and its Nigerian passengers.

He said, "Most of our passengers no longer need transit visa to fly with us. This welcome development is to further express our commitment to Nigeria. We strive daily to offer our Nigerian customers hassle-free travel. This, we have equally demonstrated by the recent increase in our weekly flight frequency to and from Port Harcourt."

The statement recalled that on October 27, the carrier increased its weekly flight frequency to and from the Port Harcourt International Airport to four.

It noted that over the years, Air France had continued to the innovative to further satisfy its customers with its electronic services.

It said that customers could now go online to book, buy and e-check in, adding that they could get their seat allocated when they check in online.

That is no cancelling of transit visa, assuming one is travelling to the caribbean where visas are mostly not required for Nigerian passport or far east Asian countries like Singapore or Macao?, U will still need a transit visa. South Korea where Nigeria requires visa to visit equally cancelled visa requirement for entering the country if holding USA or Australian Visa. I think France should take same step as South Korea and abolish visa requirement completely if holding such visas. So that we can experience french kisses on our way to varied destination.
