Banana and plantain are amongst the major staples food in Africa, where more than 31 million tonne are produced yearly primarily by small family farms and this account for approximately a third of global production.
I believe this is the right time to escalate the production.

My brother. The price vary based on the location and proximity to the road. My area is sold between N450,000-N750,000 per acre. As for the spacing it also differ you can use 2m by 2m, 2.5m by 2.5m or 3m by 3m. So do your calculations. 2.5 acre is 1 hectare.

Okay. Make sure you know what to do with your produce after harvesting.

Below are the steps to take:
1. Go for a particular on the farm training so that you will be agronomically empowered.
2. Get a good arable land with excellent ph that supports plantain cultivation.
3. Do proper land clearing.
4. Spend on land preparation and soil treatment
5. Plant your wind breakers.
6. Get a good disease resistance hybrid plantain sucker. I recommend (Treated CGHS its Sold for N150 per sucker)
7. Plant your sucker using standard depth and width.
8. Make available a good alternative source of water for irrigation, you can start with rain but never you really on rain for you plantain plantation.
9. Follow the right plantain management procedures which includes: fertilization, pruning, weeding, de-suckering, worm and pest control.

If you can follow the above mentioned steps you will surely smile to your bank.

With N250,000.00 you can cultivate an acre of plantain
The N250,000.00 conveniently takes care of the cost of suckers to plant (@ N80.00/sucker), the weeding, clearing and harvesting processes.
Depending on the spacing between two suckers, you can plant up to 1000 suckers on an acre of land
Giving 5% allowance for losses, you will be harvesting 950 bunches
Your profits depends on the timing of harvest and the ruling price in the market and the density of competition.
Assuming you sell a bunch for N1000.00, you have had a successful outing already

I need to know the requirement for starting a 2 acre plantain farm do I need to sink a bore hole?

If you intend to plant during dry season then you need to have a water source.
