The students say “To us, the increment is outrageous. We are not against any increment, but it should be reasonable. It is not fair to increase the fees for a session of nine months from N69,000 to N145,000. Where do they expect us to get that kind of money? We will continue this protest until the university reduces it. I do not think it is a crime for one to further his education in UNN.”

The Dean of Post-Graduate School, Professor A. Ubachukwu, addressed the students, saying that:

“Government does not give any allocation for postgraduate school as it is assumed that post-graduate students are adult and can pay cost for their education. I use my personal money at times to run the PG school. I have been talking with some of your leaders on this issue for some time now and we compared notes with other universities before the increment on PG school fees was made.”

Nigerian Students Suffering since 2002!

I don't agree with the dean's notion that most of post graduates students are adults and so can afford to pay higher fees.

IMO, most post graduates students are adults who were constrained by finances but yet have chosen to in spite of their tight financial situation, to get a decent education. Most of them are struggling, doing 2 jobs, barely surviving .

I really wish the fees are somehow reduced.

Uniport made us pay 162,800 for 12 months. And we're still going to pay 100,000 for the extra 6 months since the duration of the program is 18months. And they categorically stated that we shouldn't work, or accept any job offer during the duration of the program for full time students. Still wondering how a jobless person is suppose to raise all that cash.
