Klins2000:

Your MSc result is required for PhD admission.
It is the CGPA in your MSc result that will determine if you are qualified for PhD admission or MPhil.
So be guided.

So which M Sc cgpa is suitable for PhD in an average school?
Re: Thread For PHD Students by Klins2000(m): 6:58am On Feb 03, 2018
For PhD admission in Nigerian universities, you need to have 60% in your MSc or CGPA of 4.0 and above. This means that all courses you offered plus thesis score must be minimum of B grade throughout. If there is any you scored a C grade, then there should be an A grade to neutralize the two to B & B grade.

For MPhil, it is between 55 - 59%.

Thank you

But please can you explain more on the 60% part?

Does it mean that ALL the scores of the courses done plus your thesis divided by the number of courses should be 60 % to move to PhD?

thanks

Please i need an MSc or PHD proposal sample in Applied Mathematics. seguntunde.b@yahoo.com

Thanks

You need to be more specific here. Applied mathematics is as vast as the universe. So if I may ask, what exactly is your area of interst. E.g mathematical biology (modelling of diseases as in epidemiology, ecology, medicine, etc), Fluid Dynamics (applications in biology like biophysics, applications in physics like atmospheric physics, or just pure analysis, etc), dynamical systems,..

I can't even mention quarter...so you have to be specific here. I can assist if paradventure, your research area match with mine.

B.Eng Electrical/Computer Engineering
M.Eng Electric Power and Machines

Interested in Renewable Energy Resources, Smart Grid, Micro Grid for a Phd.

Sent in applications to Profs in these areas but no response....yet(if 3weeks isn't too late to get a response).

I am not deterred though, will keep searching.

Countries of interest are Germany, China, South Korea and Japan in no specific order.

Chemical engineering, research area: Pyrolysis bio oil upgrade. No facilities {partially}

Upgrading of Pyrolyzed oil is a nice research focus. I have substantial experience with that. Specifically, I use catalytic upgrading route via fluidized cracking reactor or esterification.

If you are very interested then you may need to have some facilities to test the pyrolyzed and upgrades bio-oil like checking the flash point, viscosity, pH etc.

You will need to prepare catalysts and one of the emerging and robust catalyst is MOFS ( metal organic framework). So if you are ready to work I can pass you procedure to prepare various MOFS or send u some of my published works. Also, to support you, I can help you with characterizations of the prepared catalysts but then you must be able to check your upgraded oil at your own end.

Do you have access to science direct articles and where are you based?

For all postgraduate students and intending scholars:
We alll know that the soul of lecturing career lies in research publication.

For starters: you can start by publishing your undergraduate research work, your postgraduate seminars and thesis.

You may not have money to publish in expensive Journal houses like Elsevier and science direct, no problem, you can start by publishing in free journal houses. The more publications you have, the more your chances of getting that lecturing job or promotion.
I'll help by dropping one free journal publication house for interested scholars. I will drop more on popular demand.

Visit www.erjournals.com and see their list of journals (waste of time)....

Or

Just send them your article for publication at erjournals@gmail.com.

Be sure to write a good paper so that your article can be accepted for publication..

God bless our hustle

They do not collect any fee. Just send their paper to them and see their response. If your article is well written, you won't pay a dime.

Meanwhile, what is your field so I know the journals to drop for you.......
Please,help with the journal links.

Re: Thread For PHD Students by wip7: 3:56pm On Feb 21, 2018
Publication is FREE in top-tier Journals

Recently, I had a funded open position for 6-12 months postdoctoral research opportunities in my lab. One of my PhD students assigned to review the application informed me that 3 applicants sent their application from Nigeria. I was so much interested to see these applications and possibly recruits based on the criteria stated on the application.

Particularly, two of the applicants from a well-known university in Nigeria submitted their CVs with publications of 15-30 articles.

Unfortunately, only 2-4 of the publications merited the criteria. 98% of the publications are not indexed in journals covered by SCI, SCI-e, SSCI nor WOS. Also, the field of research is too old. So, their applications were rejected.

I personally called these applicants, one happens to be associate professor and other a senior lecturer. They both claimed they dont have money to publish in such journals. Wow wow, then I realized they have no clue or possibly lack information regarding publications in Elservier, Springer, Taylor & Francis journals etc.

Take note:

1. Publications in the above mentioned publishing companies is COMPLETELY FREE unless you want to publish OPEN ACCESS (not necessary).

2. Ensure you publish in journals covered or indexed under SCI, SCI-e, SSCI, AHCI

3. Impact factor of the journal is also an important index.

Note: I am a junior professor with over 50 SCI publications.

Did you ask what exactly makes PhD program in Federal universities in Nigeria slower or lengthy? If the major reasons are known, may be before you start anywhere in Nigeria you can first tackle such issues.

I did not study in Nigeria but I have co-supervised some master and Phd students with some Nigerian professors.

What I realized (personal observation),is that majority of those supervisors lack research capabilities, less experience with research formulations (they can appear experience), creativity is low, mostly think inside the box, equipments and laziness.

But they blame it on ASSUU, pastors, Imams, Fulani herdsmen, IPOB, native doctors.
