Reading through this thread makes my B.A and PGD look outdated...lol

I really wanna go back to the classroom being a lover of education but work and life demands are getting in the way.

I'm very interested in pursuing my Msc in PR & Advertising next year, especially outside Nigeria. Then, I can begin to emulate the high flyers in here.

Thank you for challenging me.

1. You can't even express yourself properly, without contradicting your message. Can or can't?

2.. There is nothing like "Simple English Language" it's a blunder.

3. smh? I have no respect for anybody that is too lazy to write.

4. Whatever happened to punctuations in your world is a really bad thing.

5. Doomed? Really?

If you know what a PhD degree entails, you would respect anybody with such degree.
Good ! I like the way you challenge my post with points.

1) That is a typographical error.

2) There is simple English language. An informal English language that doesn't require the use of 'BIG' words.

3) Smh? That is not the way to ask a question in English language. Using a question mark after that 'smh' without inverting the subject and the first auxiliary verb is unacceptable. Yet, you write poorly in that regard looking at your failure to capitalize 'S' in smh.

4) Are you joking? My punctuation marks are well used in my posts. Unlike you who couldn't even spell punctuation in the first case.

5) Not doomed? Not Really? The correct sentences should be. (a) Why did you say Nigeria is doomed? (b) Are you really sure of that?

Nice profile, sir. I just got a first degree in Computer science this year. I intend to go for a masters degree in Computer Science too. My research interests are software engineering, project management and operation research. I do not have any research experience but I need to do some critique on some scholarly works of prospective graduate school advisors. I do not know how to go about this. How can I build my research acumen with the little opportunities available in the country? I would be grateful to have a comprehensive recommendation from you, sir.

nice thread...

bsc environmental management
msc toxicology
phd toxicology

key is patience, hardwork and selecting a good mentor who is personally invested in seeing you succeed. For those interested, a straight msc/phd in a biomedical science is free in the US.

The focus of this thread is to discuss with fellow PHD students, intending PHD students and PHD holders.

This is to highlight the requirements, approach, dynamics, challenges and share knowledge.

It's good to know the joys and the pains you are currently facing.

I think it will be better people put how far they have gone to help know what questions to direct to who perhaps one needs more information. Also, it can aid those in application stage to plan together.

I like your profile, sir. I am a graduate of computer science with a flair for software development and project management. I want to do an MSc in CS too like you did. As you are into IT and business, I would like to seek your advice on how best I can foray into project management now that I have some time to spare. I have some literature to go through in a couple of months before NYSC in march, but I am also thinking of registering in a training institute so that I can be motivated enough. Would you be kind to tell me how to optimize my time and resources in acquiring good PM skills? Thanks.

You're actually derailing this thread from it's main objective. I also noticed you've contributed nothing of interest to this thread. If you would allow "actual" PhD holders to make use of the space you're posting on, it would mean a lot to future readers of this thread. Let the university that awarded the degree be the judge of their competence. For all I know, you might be an undergraduate student in a poor Nigeria university.

We can't continue living like we don't know something is wrong in the education system of Nigeria. The fact that most PhD holders can't write simple and correct English in a public forum is appalling to say the least. I weep for my nation's future! cry cry cry cry

I will never look up to a Nigerian PhD holder again!

Back in the industry gathering experience. I ain't giving up yet, plan is to give it another shot before the end of next year - these onyibos must beg me and it MUST be FULLY FUNDED. Besides, professors with industry experiences are way way way better (I dey console myself) than those who spend 95% of their lives in the lab, abi na library, flipping through google scholar.

Kachifo nu smiley

Are you an international student? It's somewhat difficult for home students to get funding for PhD courses out here - so with international students, I doubt you would be entitled to anything. I think it has to do with the system and, the experience in the industry, and professional qualifications are put on a higher pedestal - than degrees. You're lucky they didn't ask you to take another MSc. in your prospective field cos that is the prerequisite, at most of the top Unis - especially LSE, and Imperial College.

Anyway, rather than keep waiting for a fully funded scholarship out here, you're better off going to America, or Canada. Most of the PhD courses out there are fully funded by the Unis. And in cases where the Unis can't provide the funding/stipends, an advisor would do it for you. However, with America, it seems you have to take GRE exams.

I am not derailing the thread for speaking out against what I find disturbing about the use of English language to make sentences by the Nigerian PhD holders on this thread. The truth that we keep hiding the problems of our society and expect them to just go away without finding solutions won't help matters. Not until we come out and stand against all forms of failure to say the truth about the education system of that country we aren't going to see a huge progress in that section. Those are among the things destroying the fabric of that nation. It is what I am trying to point out in the whole heated argument. Mind you, I didn't insult anybody.

However, I agree with you that there is more to be done about the state of the Nigerian universities which award those PhD certificates. They haven't produced world class people we can really be proud of as people. From a reasonable perspective we need to do something because the wealth of a nation is its educated citizenry. With what we have on hand in Nigeria, looking at what PhD holders have written on this thread, I don't think we can be able to build the future wealth of that nation. It is very sad to see such a thing happening in a society we all pride as the GIANT of Africa. I am ashamed to say that.

Thank you.
