[b]THE 9-YEAR OLD PUT IN CHAINS When I was a kid of around age 9 or 10, I used to be fascinated when I see local ducks swimming while their beautiful yellow ducklings convoy with their mom... Somehow I thought all birds could swim, I caught my mom's chicken and threw it in the river to swim. Damn me! The poor thing drowned and left a heavy rock on my conscience at that time. I also received some serious beating from my dad. I have a fragile heart, I can't watch bloody accident scenes. I hate blood perhaps that's why I opted for engineering instead of medicine. I tried one time to "murder'' a chicken for Christmas rice, that Christmas was the worst ever. I woke up to a story of a 9-year old kid put in chains accused of wizardry, I couldn't go past the headline. The image of the boy on the headline won't make me open the news, I felt so guilty. I wished I wasn't a homo sapien, I wish I never shared this planet with these humans. It is 2016 for f**k sake. And people wonder why I'm so keen on writing and condemning religions. Have you no eyes? Have you not seen the harm it has caused from its conception till date? I won't say a word more about this boy. ALLAH NOW HATES MOVIES? Our religiosity has reached to a level that whenever a business or developmental plan is raised, we bring out our "holy book" to check whether it contravenes "God's" law. A proposal by FG to build movie village in Kano has been scrapped due to public outcry against it, not because it's a bad business idea, but because Allah is not happy with it. The debate was not about the revenue to be generated, employment to be created or the cultural value it would add. It was all about Religion. Movie promotes "immorality". A people is hopelessly backward when all aspects of their life are dictated by religion. Now I suppose God is happy with us. [b]THE BACKWARD RELIGIONS OF ABRAHAM The Universal Declaration of Human Rights confers more than 27 fundamental and inalienable rights on every individual, regardless of race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. This declaration represents a consolidation of everything our species has learned in, perhaps, 200,000 years to protect humans from oppression and guarantee the freedoms necessary for a safe, fair and fulfilled life. Article 18 of the Declaration grants freedom of thought--the freedom to believe anything you wish and to change your beliefs without coercion. I sometimes wonder how Christians reconcile their religion with these inalienable human rights. After all, the single biggest sin in Christianity, the sin that could result in eternal torture, is not a heinous act of cruelty but a simple thought-crime--the crime of NOT believing that Jesus is your Lord and master. According to Christianity, a person can be forgiven the genocide of a nation but cannot be forgiven having the wrong beliefs. At least, a Christian is free to leave Christianity but a Muslim has no such luck. In most Muslim countries, leaving Islam is a serious crime, in some cases punishable by death. This is in direct contravention of Article 18 of the declaration. We have learned a lot since the Abrahamic religions were forged in the Middle East more than 1,500 years ago. Unfortunately, the Iron Age god of Abraham has no capacity to learn, so followers of these religions are forced to adhere to a view of human rights that we have long discarded, and now looks grotesquely backward. I am pleased to inform him that I subscribe to the christian philosophy that preaches that each man or woman be judged by their own conscience. Winner01, this is a good time to take notes.  What would Jesus have said to a man caught sleeping with his lover? What would Christ have said to the farmer who dared to disobey the law to rescue a lost sheep on the Sabbath day? What would Jesus have said to medical tests requiring semen obtained by masturbation? What would Jesus have said about family planning and population control in a continent brimming with poverty, hunger and starvation? You will remember the story of the woman taken in adultery and brought to Jesus by the scribes and Pharisees, who may be likened to the Christians and Christian leaders of today. They said to the teacher, "Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?" The gospel of John notes that, "they said this, to tempt him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not." The following verses portray an aspect of Jesus' teachings that is often ignored by religious people: So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her". And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, "Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more." The summary of it all is that no human being is perfect. The struggle to become a better person, a more loving son or daughter, a more compassionate husband or wife, a more conscientious public servant or politician, is an enduring lifetime goal. Those who spend all their days shaming women for "dressing like whores", and condemning gay people and prostitutes, aren't decent humans but sanctimonious hypocrites like the notorious scribes and Pharisees. If they spent a little more time minding their own business, their conscience would certainly judge them, and they would have found themselves unworthy of the company of those they call fornicators and adulterers. So there you have it. Folks should watch their own lane lest they strike a foot against a stone, and as they do that, they may yet learn that the log in their eyes might yet need some attention. I like the Igbo saying, "Egbe bere, ugo bere. Nke si ibe ya ebela,nku kuu kwaa ya!" "Let the Kite fly, let the Eagle fly, The one that says the other shouldn't fly, should lose its wings." This aptly captures this principle of tolerance and fairness, in line with the old code of equity law which commands that every wrong be remedied, and as St Thomas wrote, the firm and constant will to give each one his due, is the definition of justice. Last week, in America, legions of earthly ambassadors of Jesus Christ, who profess guns, the American flag, Fox News, and Jesus Christ in that order of importance, descended on Cleveland. This category of ambassadors of Christ tends to disturb the peace of the rest of us with high-decibel proclamation of family values and other ingredients of fundamentalist Christianity - especially if such Christianity allows for white racial supremacy. Then we hear news that the moment these fundamentalist ambassadors of Christ checked into their hotel rooms in Cleveland, there was a noticeable spike in pay-per-view demands for pornographic films. Porn channels experienced a boom in Cleveland last week and are now lamenting the departure of the family values Christians... These American fundamentalist Christians also regularly invade places like Uganda, Nigeria, Zimbabwe and other countries in Africa where the persecution of gays is rife. They pump money into such countries to strengthen the heavy hand of Christianity in the persecution of gays. The only problem is that, often, their Pastors in America get tired of living a double life. Then, they come out of the closet... Only God knows how many fundamentalist American Pastors secretly rejoice whenever another state legalizes marijuana. In Nigeria, the Muslim kinsmen of American Christian fundamentalists are some of the worst ambassadors of the Holy Prophet that Islam has to offer, especially those in public office. They steal public money all the time to go to Mecca. Then they return and hide from the Muslim ummah. They waste public funds in breaking beer bottles because they don't like alcohol. Yet a significant part of the allocation they collect from the centre is from VAT on alcohol. None of them has ever been able to reject the percentage of their revenue which comes from tax on alcohol. The irony is that part of the money they steal to go to Mecca comes from tax on alcohol. Now we hear that in Kano, they have successfully killed the establishment of a film village because of the "moral laxity" of Nollywood and film in general. In the mammy markets of the north - zones where alcohol and prostitutes are allowed - the open secret is that those who really keep the businesses going are not Igbo and Yoruba infidels. For much of my undergraduate years, I spent my vacations with my Uncle in Sokoto. Every saturday, we would hit mammy market to drink beer and peppersoup. Between 6pm and 11 pm, the customers would mostly be southerners - Igbo, Yoruba, and other infidels from the south. After midnight, well, the shons of the shoil would start to arrive in disguise. Alhajis coming to drink alcohol and check on the well-being of prostitutes... Some of them would pour the beer into plastic kettles. If you could be a fly on the wall of those who shot down the film village idea in Kano, you'd find clerics who become something else after midnight. You'd find puritanical Hisbah officers who return as midnight customers to the same beer parlours they hound during the day. OUR AWESOME PLANET There are many things in this world that fill me with awe. Things that are so extraordinary, so difficult to comprehend, that they seem unbelievable. For example, the Apollo missions that sent 12 men to walk on the moon using less computer power than I have in my washing machine. Or the Airbus A380 that can carry 850 passengers, 8,500 miles at 85% of the speed of sound. Or contemplating the size and age of the universe and the incredible number of galaxies and stars. Or the fact that billions of my fellow human beings, by far the most intelligent species on the planet, sincerely believe they talk with an invisible being who watches everything they do; who created the entire universe and life on Earth in a matter or days and is preoccupied with the need for men to excise their foreskins. Joseph I have followed this thread from the beginning to this page and want to say I admire you and what you've done with this thread. This is why I have chosen to contribute here. Well I don't know your location but if you live in Abuja then you probably have heard of a program called "Lean on me" broadcast by Kapital FM every Monday by 10:30 pm. This program is for people with problems and difficulties or just life stories to come and share with Nigerians who will afterwards offer financial, moral or spiritual support. Well, yesterday I had the misfortune of listening to one of the most horrible and the most tragic episode ever aired. A woman brought her 8 year old son to the studio because accusing him of being a wizard. From her story, her husband with whom she had three kids left her and the children four years ago and IMO, from the way she speaks you will notice immediately why any man will run away from this woman. She was literally violent with her tongue. Anyway this woman who is a lawyer by profession, claimed that her pastor told her during service one day that her son is a wizard and the reason why things have been difficult for her. She also said her son caused her own mother who is staying with her to go blind through his wizardry, among so many other accusation. Since then she has taken the boy to more than thirty places according to her, for deliverance and nothing has worked. When she finished they brought in the boy to come and speak. That's when the whole episode became tragic. The boy accepted everything the mother claimed saying he was initiated into it by his father when he was two years old. Asked how, he said his father gave him beans to eat and after that gave him bread too and that's how he got initiated. He said at night the father will turn into a bird and he too will turn into a bird and they will fly together to their coven where six other elders and his grand mother (father's mother) meets. The small boy claims they suck her mothers blood, eats her flesh and SO many other BS. He even claimed he took her mother's credentials to their coven spiritually, which means that the physical ones she still has is now worthless and that's the reason why she's not getting any work to do as a lawyer. It's just not possible for me to write everything the boy said or to correctly illustrate the WAY he said it (imagine an 8 years old). But from listening to boy any objective person will notice that everything the boy said was suggested to him probably by several of the pastors and prophets the mother took him to. Even the presenter asking him questions was guilty of this. Also any kid that watches AfricaMagic will easily know many of the things the boy said. It was very sad indeed. What the woman was going through was hardship just like millions of Nigerians now, especially with her husband on AWOL leaving her to take care of three children without a job. Yet pastors and prophets are callously taking advantage of this to destroy this poor family and especially this kids life. The mother even said she has even considered killing this boy. A guy with the username HardMirror mentioned somewhere how he was very effective in the art of suggestion and how he used it in his proselytizing days. One of the unfortunate implication is how it will add to the resolve of thousands of listeners in the belief that power to change their lives lies outside of themselves. I did my NYSC in Abuja, so yes I know how popular that programme is. Thanks for sharing buddy, and hopefully the little we are doing in our little circle of influence will one day reach a tipping point and change things in the psyche of people in this country. 2 Likes |

STOP LIVING IN FEAR Religious people live their lives in fear and that's what I dislike the most. Fear is what I dislike because it limits us and our curiosity. A religious person threatening me with death makes no difference because to be honest, I am sincerely looking forward to dying. I am not afraid of anything after that; even if I was in heaven, I'd still want to go see what happens in hell and nobody can stop me from being curious. I see pastors threaten religious people that's why they pay tithes like slaves; dare your pulpit hustler, don't pay tithes and nothing will happen. I repeat: nothing will happen. At a point my Christian and very religious fiancé who was lying next to me was so disgusted and begged me to turn it off but I listened to the end because I wanted to see how Nigerians will react to this story. Well true to type, people started calling to say they've had similar experience or know someone who has had similar experience. Nobody condemned what they just heard. I think HARDSHIPS is the reasons why this is so endemic in Nigeria and pastors and MOGs are taking advantage of that to cash in. The gap between the Rich and Poor was so much that the middle class was wiped off. It was essentially the Very Rich and the Poor. (By the way, I believe with the directionless administration Buhari has convinced us he is skilled at leading, we might be going that path again.) So back in those years, people in their despair turned to God for hope. It was a simple message, "God can take your sorrow away". Very effective! Ministeries sprang up overnight and fanaticism grew. Once, my girl, interestingly an agnostic, jokingly told me to go into Christian ministry and make some cool cash for ourselves. We know the way these things work. The tricks used, we know. The fakeness utilized, we are aware. Whatever is left, Youtube can help us with, including the mannerisms to use on the gullible and get us to have enough 'hope' to give to the masses in exchange for filthy lucre. But to what end? That's why when religious bigots accuse us of obsession with God, I can only laugh. I have no need to be obsessed with their imaginary figure, I am a patriot who among other things want a better country for my kids and people I would never meet. A FRAUD! The more I think about it, the more I realise that Pastor Adeboye is a big big fraud. He says that if people are jobless, they cannot be trusted to take care of their wives, but they can be relied on to pay tithes from any monetary gifts or allowances they receive, towards the upkeep of the RCCG ministers. So whatever happens, it's a win - win for the church. Even kids are asked to pay tithe. I looked up their sunday school manual, kids are taught they will die if they don't pay their tithes. Adults are told to pay tithes no matter their situation. In essence, you might not be good enough for marriage but they will still take your money as tithe and offering. That's so crazy..Isn't it? For those who don't know what being an organ donor is, I will explain... Organ donation is where a person donates their organs for transplant. There are two types of organ donation: living and deceased. For living, you donate a part of your body to someone who needs it else the person would die. It's important to note that the part of your body you would be donating would not permanently harm you in any way. The most common organ donated is the kidney. Parts of other organs that a living donor can give are liver, lung, and on rare occasions pancreas and intestine. Tissue donations include bone marrow and blood cells. For deceased, instead of having those precious organs buried inside the ground and having them rot away, you can give permission for them to be removed and used. There are several organs and tissue types that can be donated after death. These include, but are not limited to heart, liver, lungs, kidneys, intestine, pancreas, heart valves, bone, skin, and corneas. Donated organs are given to someone who has damaged organs that need to be replaced. An organ transplant may save a person's life or significantly improve their health and quality of life. Between April 1 2013 and March 31 2014, 4,655 organ transplants were carried out in the UK thanks to the generosity of 2,466 donors. But there are always significantly more people waiting for an organ transplant than there are suitable donors. At the time of writing (24 November 2014), 6,856 people were waiting for transplants. As of August 1, 2016, there are 120,004 people waiting for life-saving organ transplants in the US. Of these, 96,645 await kidney transplants. While views of organ donation are positive there is a large gap between the numbers of registered donors compared to those awaiting organ donations on a global level. On May 15, 2016, the Nations newspaper reported the chief of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital as saying that organ donation is rare in Nigeria. BASIC TOOL FOR WOMEN OBJECTIFICATION No matter how much we deny this simple fact, religion is the most basic tool for the objectification of women. I believe many people are familiar with this verse, from the famous ten commandments. "You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife or his male servant or his female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor." Men wrote this verse and many others, in their own interest, and you see clearly that a wife is a man's property, absent freewill, in the same way his slaves, oxen and donkeys belong to him. Does Islam aim to dominate the entire world? 2. Does Islam permit killing non-believers in the pursuit of this goal? 3. Does Islam promise rewards in Paradise for Muslims who die in this cause? 4. Does Islam chide Muslims who chose not to participate in this struggle? 5. Does Islam offer three choices to non-believers when it gains control: (a) to become Muslim; (b) to be subservient and pay taxes to Muslims; (c) to be killed? 6. Does Islam permit Muslims to leave their religion of their own free will? 7. Do Muslims believe the Qur'an contains the actual words of God that can never be changed? The answers to these seven questions should reveal whether Islam is a potential disaster for the world, or an entirely innocuous religion. THE WORD 'ATHEIST' IS SO MISUNDERSTOOD I follow spacyzuma's diary. In his latest comment posted a few minutes again, he inferred that an agnostic is somehow between a theist and an atheist. I have found myself having to discuss this issue so many times. No...agnoticism is not between theism and atheism. Theism is not at one end and atheism at the other extreme corner. No...agnostism is not the midpoint. They are two separate terms. One deals with belief, the other deals with knowledge. Perhaps, I may have used it and make it sound like an agnostic is the reasonable fellow and the atheist is the stubborn one, pardon me, that's not true. THE IDEA BEHIND THE CREATION OF THE WOMAN The Jewish writers of the creation story were trying to make a point when they wrote the story of how the woman was created. They had the option of making the God character in their book to create Eve from the dust just like he did for Adam - if God could do it for Adam, He's quite capable of doing it for Eve - but in a patriarchal society, that would be sending the wrong message. It would mean the woman is an independent being and equal to the man since both came from same source. So they made God, in their Holy Book, to create woman from the man's rib. This is a very powerful message. It is their own way of telling the woman that she is perpetually under the man, she has no will of her own and being a mere "missing rib", her ultimate goal in life is to get united with her main source (marriage). This, I think, is the idea behind the Jewish story of the creation of the woman. 4 Likes 4 Shares |
