HealthNewsNG.com has exclusively gathered that a meeting held today by representatives of the federal government of Nigeria and striking health workers under the umbrella body of JOHESU has ended in stalemate as both parties failed to reach any concrete agreement on the demands of the union.

A statement made available to HealthNewsNG.com revealed no resolutions were reached by JOHESU and government representatives including ministry of health and salaries and wages commission. JOHESU members who were present at the meeting and spoke to HealthNewsNG.com said the government is obviously not serious.

Federal Government reportedly claimed to have gone to 20 Federal Teaching Hospitals, 21 FMCs, 16 Specialist Hospitals and 6 others to determine numbers of staff. They also said the Salary and Wages Commission had done salary computation using the new harmonized salary structure. Hence the need for more time and rescheduling of the meeting to another date and suggestively 22/12/2014.

This ostensibly gave JOHESU no choice than to insist on health workers from all over the country, including those in rural areas, to continue with the strike action.

Speaking at the meeting, the president of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), Alh T. Y. Raheem made it clear that nobody can intimidate members of JOHESU since Nigeria belongs to everyone.

In a statement issued on behalf of JOHESU by Adeyeye Tam, Public Relations Officer of AMLSN, one of the associations under JOHESU, the union enjoined members to be prepared for the battles ahead.

“Members are therefore advised to remain resolute, be prepared for tougher fight because nothing good comes on a platter of gold,” JOHESU said.

Amount of strike in Jonathan's administration has been outrageous. Under his regime, ASUU broke their longest strike record, and made the so called leaders of tomorrow sit down at home for about 7 months, during this period, a couple of dem lost deir life, we were always seeing RIP on social media. I can't remember anything ASUP strike before, but out polythecnic students sat at home for a year.

The health sector is a no go area. We used to hear of doctors strike. But now if it's not doctors, it's nurses, if it's not nurses, it's pharmacist. Sad part is the president just ignores them, thinking he is showing them, but him and his abati gang have refused to think outside the box and see that Nigerians are dying, lost a loved one due to the strikes. The president is not even capable of controling the labour sector, imagine waking up and sacking doctors? No ability to control labour

Consistent nupeng strikes still exist

Shameless politicians. They travel abroad spending thousands of dollars on medical treatment while Nigerian hospitals are completely nothing to talk home about.

Strike is now a tradition in Nigeria
Well, it is a shame that the health workers are the one embarking on this strike; when the health of Nigerians aren't a priority to the govt.
What do you expect?

When doctors were on strike this same unions were saying doctors were heartless and insensitive to the plight of the masses. Ironically this same union is now on strike and imploring their workers to be resolute in their stance! SMH
