Don't think the freedom we enjoy is by default because we have democracy. Its not. There is democracy in Russia and Zimbabwe but if you insult the Presidents of this country you will surely hear from someone

I think we are taking our freedom for granted.

Unfortunately, that may just account for less than 1% of the voters population! Most Nigerian's political critics, elites, human-right apostles, name it, don't even have voters cards! Most just complain, they won't vote. It's an unfortunate fact!

What do you guys expect? That's what happens to seating Presidents. I have been to several websites and forums and I can tell you its a global thing. Leaders worldwide are the most scrutinize people on earth. So naturally it is expected that their citizens will call them names. The case of GEJ is not different too. Is Obama, Zuma and the rest also not being bashed daily by their citizens?
Zuma perhaps was one of the most heavily criticised African leaders. If you see the way South Africans bash him online, you will think the end has come for him, yet he won his second term elections.
So don't get any funny ideas into your head. If you think the above tweets will make GEJ loose elections next year then you are on your own.

Russia has a culture of Tsar worship. Zimbabwe has never had freedom - from Ian Smith to Mugabe. Nigeria, on the other hand, has had a culture of free speech since independence. Even before independence we always had a vocal press. We even had more freedom of speech under Abacha than they have in Russia and Zimbabwe. The Buhari era was just an interregnum which he dare not and cannot repeat under democracy. Besides, times have changed.
