Ososo is one of the major communities that constitutes Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria. It is a Scenic town of streams and rocks in the undulating Somorika hills with altitude of over 1000 feet above sea level, giving the town a temperate climate for most part of the year. The town has enormous tourist appeal which may not be unconnected to the fact that it is located on a plateau occupied by hills and rocks of unrivaled opulence and splendor and it plays host to precious stones of different nature.

The town of Ososo boast of a non-catering Rest House on top of a hill, which grants a wide view of parts of Kogi State to as far as the Niger. , Nigerian Breweries PLC gave the tourism potentials of Ososo a boost as they hosted their 2011 Gulder Ultimate Search Season 8, in Egbetua, Ososo.

Ososo is made up of four clans which are Anni, Egbetua, Okhe and Ikpena. They have a unique dialect of the Ghotuo-Uneme-Yekhee branch of the Edoid linguistic lineage and like most other AfemaiPeople, they traces their Origin to the Benin kingdom.

Ososo shares boundaries with Okene to the north, Okpella to the East, Makeke to the west, Ojah to the South and Ogori to the north-west. It is a boundary town between Edo and Kogi States.

Tourist Events

Some events worthy of note in Ososo are:

Ososo Carnival – this is an annual carnival with international participation. It aims at promoting cultural exchange amongst nationalities within and outside Edo state.
Ovikpo – this is a ceremony that celebrates the initiation to womanhood of community’s maidens. Ages of participants ranges between 13 and 15. For five days, maiden, who participate in Oviko, are regarded as queens. They were exempted from domestic chores. It is usually a very colorful and entertaining event. It is done at certain interval depending on the numbers of maidens available for initiation into womanhood.
Itakpo – This is the manhood initiation ceremony which holds once in seven years
