Some have called for amnesty for Boko Haram citing the agreement reached by the FG and Niger Delta militants in restoring peace.

First of all, the amnesty was not meant to restore peace but to ensure a conducive atmosphere for oil companies to resume operations.

There was no where the level of anarchy we are witnessing in the NE by the lunatic jihadist group, Boko Haram in the Delta during te insurgency.

MEND did not target civilian populations but only disrupted oil facilities, abducted oil workers ( no time did they abduct girls from Anglican Girls Secondary School) neither did they open fire in Okere Market or plant IEDs in Effurun motor park.

Some have relegated the genuine struggle which has yielded strong and positive gains for the people of the Niger Delta as criminal. This same cynics will however quickly absolve Boko Haram of any responsibility and accuse the FG of neglect and heavy handedness when dealing with Boko Haram?

What exactly is Boko Haram fighting for?

Waiting for your responses to continue...

The emir of Kano in his infinite mumuism and attempt to distort the truth alleged that the Niger Delta militants amnesty package was one of the cause of the insurgency in the northeast neglecting the jihadist groups several claims to establish a caliphate over Nigeria and their serial targeting of Christians, Churches and southerners.

The Emir is not alone here. The US state department under Hilary Clinton as well as the current Ambassador of the United States also echoed this fallacy in a guise to allow the jihad group spread by not delianating Boko Haram as a terrorist organization.

Buhari in his infinite sectionalized mode called for amnesty simply because the Niger Deltan militias had it why shouldn't northern jihadis have one as well. This was done without highlighting the genuine cause of the Niger Deltan insurgency, the non targeting of civillian populace in Abuja or any other part of the country, the willingness of the militants to meet and reach a negotiable and rational settlement.

Buhari is not talking ignorantly or in error. He is tacitly supporting the insurgency in the NE like his Fulani brother, El Rufai does with the Fulani militias ravaging the Christian middle belt.

It doesn't matter how many innocent people are killed in the middle belt by his fellow kinsmen. It is only when retribution is meted on them by the security outfits tasked on maintaining peace that El Rufai speaks. His sense of justice is drawn on ethno-religious lines.

Fulanis according to El Rufai are above the law and deserve impunity from the security outfits.

The silent genocide on the Christian middle belt in Plateau, south Kaduna, Taraba, Benue, Nassarawa and parts of Kogi is a topic that is hardly discussed. I believe this silent war carried out by rampaging Fulani militias on innocent people is more dangerous than what we are currently witnessing in the NE by Boko Haram.

Even though El Rufai has clearly stated his position of unconditional support to his murderous kinsmen what has our fourth time aspiring President stance on what is going on in the middle belt?

Silence sometimes can be taken as support.

The glaring evidence to point that Boko Haram was created and is currently supported by the northern caliphate is the fact that Boko Haram in their Jihadi quest to spread Islam by force have not targeted neighbouring Chad, Niger and Cameroon in their caliphate scheming. Of course there have been skirmishes between Boko Haram and Cameroonian Gerdames but this is because Cameroon being a plural state does not want boko haram operating freely within her borders. Boko Haram enjoy free unhindered access into Chad and Niger but only use these countries to regroup and then launch an attack back into Nigeria.

ISIS on the other hand are fighting a true Jihadi cause as they have carved a large chunk of territory within two states, Syria and Iraq and have their eyes set at reestablishing the Islamic empire back to its peak.

Bokos are content within Nigeria shows this is largely a false Jihadi cause but more of a political strategy to wrest power back to the north.

Nigeria's Boko Haram rejects Jonathan's amnesty idea

The Nigerian Islamist group Boko Haram has rejected the idea of an amnesty.

Last week President Goodluck Jonathan asked a high level team to look into the possibility of granting the militants a pardon.

The announcement was made via an audio statement believed to be from the group's leader Abubakar Shekau.
---------

Abeg Jonathan has offered them amnesty and cash and he did not say it was Buharis idea! Boko Haram declined the offer.

The northern elders and elites did demand for amnesty. A negotiation committee composed by mainly northerners did submit a white paper to the presidency to explore negotiations with the group. Buhari was very open and blunt for his demands for amnesty on behalf of Boko Haram citing the Niger Delta peace deal.

The timeline of events shows that the amnesty request and initiative began from the north with Buhari being one of the loudest champions.

Buhari joins calls for amnesty for Boko Haram; visits HID Awolowo
April 10, 2013 | Filed under: Featured,News Update | Posted by: Ben Onyemaechi

Former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, has said if amnesty would bring peace to the country and end the destruction by Boko Haram the Federal Government should consider it.

Buhari stated this today in Ikene shortly after paying a condolence visit to the mother of the late publisher of the Nigerian Tribune, Oluwole Awolowo, HID.

Speaking with reporters, Buhari said anything that would bring peace should be considered by the Federal Government.

Buhari was accompanied to the Ikene home of the Awolowos by his running mate in the 2011 presidential election, Pastor Tunde Bakare and a host of others.

Meanwhile, a group of northern elders under the aegis of the Northern Elders Forum, (NEF) has called on governors in the region to prepare the stage for a smooth dialogue between the Boko Haram group and the federal government.

The elders specifically urged the state chief executives in the 19 northern states to “identify members of the group, discuss with them and resolve some of their grievances” so that the planned amnesty scheme would work.

Speaking through a former University Vice Chancellor and an elder statesman, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, the group made the call on the governors to identify the sect members and bring them forward for dialogue with the federal government noting that dialogue was the only way out of the insecurity plaguing the region.
“We support the northern Governors to unmask the Boko Haram members. They must also deal with the issues of Boko Haram and their grievances, because this is the basis for the dialogue.

“Yes, the northern Governors have greater roles to play because they are the ones governing the states, and they are the ones managing the resources of the states.

If part of the problems is related to poverty, of course, they have a role to play in that regard.

“Apart from the federal government, there are two other tiers of government which have the responsibility of managing the affairs of the country, that is, the states and the local governments. They all have constitutional duties and roles to play in this matter.

“Part of the failure we have been experiencing is the failure of the state governments and local governments to play their role effectively.

“It is not only the federal government that has failed, the states and local governments have also failed and we have to begin to address how they will come back to work proper.” Abdulahi stated.

On the insinuations that NEF recommended N20 million and a house for any repentant Boko Haram member, Prof. Abdullahi said: “This is rubbish, it is not from us”.

“We did not pre-empt any condition for Boko Haram ceasefire. These are speculations from whatever source we don’t know.

“All we have said is that they should be engaged in a dialogue and they should spell out their grievances and these grievances should be examined with a view to ratifying them,” he stated.
