How Austria- Based Business Woman Was Killed By Lover by Cyb3rhack3r: 6:44am On Jan 03, 2015
A crack team of crime investigators
from the Edo State police command
headquarters in Benin City are battling
to unravel the circumstances that led to
the brutal murder of a 45 year old
Austria-based Nigerian citizen, Rose
Aifuwa, in the hand of her lover around
her residence located at Upper Mission
road in Benin, in the wee hours of 25th
December, 2014.
The suspect allegedly knocked down the
mother of three with his Honda car and
dragged her body for over 500 meters
after the late Rose was said to have
demanded the payment of her money
amounting to N20 million from a
business transaction she had with her
lover.
The late Rose and Festus, according to
family sources, were said to be business
acquaintances initially before love crept
in few months after they met through a
third party in Benin, a relationship the
deceased was said to have enjoyed,
making her entrust the control and
management of her business
transactions in Nigeria to the lover, who
later reciprocated her love by taking her
life.
The deceased prior to her untimely
death was a major importer of fairly
used cars popularly referred to as
‘Tokunbo’ and spare parts which Festus
helped to sell to customers in Benin.
Festus, it was gathered, achieved an
appreciable level of financial
independence owing to the profit he
made from the sales of the imported
goods from late Rose.
It was also gathered that a plot of land
being developed at Aduwawa part of the
town and the Honda car owned by
Festus were bought for him by his
Austria-based lover.
Journey To Death
On the said day the incident occurred,
the deceased was said to have
complained bitterly to close family
members over failed attempts and
pressure to get Festus remit to her all
money made from the sales of cars and
spare parts she had imported in the care
of (Festus) but she was always
confronted with physical attacks and
abuse, a situation which often led to
public quarrels among the lovers.
Trouble was said to have started on
24th December 2014 when late Rose
arrived Nigeria to spend the Christmas
celebration with her 80-year-old mother
and her siblings and she later invited
the suspect to her residence at night
and demanded the payment of her
money. It was gathered that the suspect
spent the night at her No 72 Upper
Mission residence and that when the
suspect was about leaving in the early
hours of the morning, the deceased
insisted that he pay the money owed
her.
The suspect in a bid to escape, ran into
his car, drove and hit the deceased who
had run after him. He allegedly dragged
the body under the vehicle and
eventually dumped the mangled body
near a filling station at Upper Mission
Junction where residents woke to
discover it.
The suspect who is in the custody of the
police was taken to the scene of the
incident by detectives in Benin after it
was discovered that he dragged the
body along the road for over 500
meters. He was said to have confessed
to killing his lover.
The octogenarian mother of the
deceased, Mrs Victoria Aifuwa, wept
uncontrollably when LEADERSHIP
Weekend visited her Aduwawa resident
and met her surrounded by family
members and sympathisers who held
her as she looked blankly at the sky,
dazed by the pain the exit of her
benefactor and daughter had caused
her. Iye (a name for aged women in
Benin) gave an account of the
relationship between her late daughter
and the lover and what transpired less
than 24 hours before her brutal death.
“I was with my daughter at her
residence at Upper Mission on the 24th
of December, 2014 and when it was
7pm I told my daughter that I wanted to
leave for home because I wasn’t feeling
too well, coupled with the cold weather.
She laughed and called me an old
woman, saying I should come back the
next day which was Christmas day.
“Festus, my daughter’s boyfriend, whom
they often call 2 million, was with my
daughter with some of his friends
having drinks when I left them; only for
me to hear a knock on my gate that my
daughter’s dead body is lying at a
junction.
“Later, the people that came were trying
to hide the matter from me, saying it
was a minor injury that she sustained.
Some people said she was shot in the
back, while others said her intestines
came out. The killer of my daughter said
they both slept together and that when
he wanted to leave my daughter held
him, insisting he must pay her the
money he owed over some business
transactions. It was at that point he
knocked her down with his vehicle and
dragged her on the ground, which led to
her death.
“My world has crumbled. I don’t know
what to do. I am in hell without my
daughter; she is all I have. Each time
my daughter brings goods from abroad,
I usually call Festus and after selling he
doesn’t remit money. I never knew the
same man would eventually kill my
daughter and leave me in deep pain,”
she wailed.
Continuing, she added, “my daughter
even rented an apartment for him with
over N250, 000 because they are going
out. My daughter said she wanted to
uplift his social status and went as far
as buying him a car because her friends
usually mocked her over going out with
someone of a lower social status.
“Aside that, she had even started
building a house for him at Aduwawa.
Festus controlled most of her business
dealings in Nigeria. Recently, she
complained to me that the bulk of her
money unremitted is in the custody of
Festus, so I advised her not to give him
any more goods. My daughter trusted
him and that was why she opened her
heart to him by ensuring that he is in
charge of her business dealings,” the
grieving mother stated.
She appealed to the Edo State police
commissioner, Folusho Adebanjo and
the state governor, Comrade Adams
Oshiomhole to intervene in the matter
for justice to done in the killing of her
daughter.
A resident of the area who alleged that
she woke up on Christmas day to find
the corpse of the woman, told
journalists on condition of anonymity
that the deceased was dragged on a
tarred road for about 500 metres, tied to
the back of a car.
“I didn’t open my shop on that day
because it was Christmas day. But when
I came out that morning, I saw people
shouting. So, I quickly rushed to the
spot where I saw a dead woman with
deeps cuts all over her body.
“The woman looked like someone who
was not living in Nigeria. I thought she
was a victim of ritualists but I heard
people saying that she was killed by her
boyfriend who tied her to his bus and
dragged her from her house in Lucky
Way to the junction.
“I really felt bad because she had a hole
in her back and her intestines were out
because of the way she was dragged
and I could not even look at the face of
her brother who came to buy something
this morning because he was very
angry,” she said.
Another resident who also did not want
his name in print described the murder
of the deceased as barbaric and faulted
claims by the suspect that the deceased
fell from a moving bus.
“I think the police should not believe
that because there were cuts on her
body as if she had been butchered. It is
evil for someone to kill another who
came back home to celebrate the
Christmas with her family,” he said.
Spokesman of the Edo State police
command, DSP Joseph Edoigiawerie,
who confirmed the incident in a
telephone interview, said the case has
been reported by a relation of the
deceased and would be transferred to
the State Criminal Investigation
Department.
“A case of murder was reported by one
Elvis Omokhojie, that his sister, named
Rose Aifuwa, was found lying down on
Upper Mission extension junction,
Aduwawa in Benin City, and the cause
of death unknown.
“We have been to the scene of incident
and taken the corpse to the mortuary.
Our investigations led to the arrest of
the lover, because according to the
report, he (the suspect) was last seen
with her,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Austrian government has
contacted the Nigerian police over
Aifuwa’s death, following information
that the deceased flew into Nigeria with
an Austrian passport.
