A lot has changed, some things have stayed the same, and both consoles are much more appealing buys for different reasons. With that, I’m looking at the most compelling reasons to go with either console, focusing on strengths instead of weaknesses. If we wanted to talk about weaknesses, for example, I’d mention how every single current-gen console has a bizarre and backward relationship to controller batteries. Seriously, why is that?

Power:
Over the course of the past year, it’s become increasingly evident: not only does the PS4 have a power advantage over the Xbox One, that power advantage is translating to better performance in third-party games. The Xbox One got a little boost when Microsoft freed up processing power previously allotted to the Kinect, but so far PS4 just has a much better track record of delivering superior resolution and framerate, and there’s more than enough reason to suspect that its also going to translate to prettier games aswell when heavy hitting first-party titles become available.
If this is the sort of thing that matters to you, it’s hard to make a different choice in this category. Both consoles do a lot of similar things, but PS4 does them quicker and cleaner.

Games:
PS4′s exclusives have stuttered a bit out of the gate, from the technical problems of Driveclub to the utter trainwreck that was Knack, but that doesn’t mean that we won’t get some impressive titles soon, from The Order: 1886 to LittleBig Planet 3 and Bloodborne. And Naughty Dog remains, arguably, the best developer in the market today. For a lot of people, the chance to play Uncharted 4 and whatever that studio comes up with next is reason enough to pick up Sony’s machine.

And let’s not forget indies: the recent re-release of The Unfinished Swan reminds us all of the incredible ecosystem that Sony has built for smaller developers, and that’s only going to become a larger factor as the generation matures. No Man’s Sky emerged as one of the show-stealers at E3 2014, and there’s reason to think it could become another full-fledged indie blockbuster.

Ecosystem:
Sony is struggling as a company, but Kaz Hirai has been adamant about making the Playstation brand one of the key tent-poles of his new strategy. That means that not only do we get the sleek and successful PS4, we also get the quixotic Vita, Playstation TV, Morpheus and more. Sony is looking to build a multi-device ecosystem that revolves around PS4, so picking up that box now will put you in a good position to take advantage of this cool new network as it develops. I’ve used the Morpheus on several occasions, and it’s right up there with the latest models of the Oculus Rift. When it finally comes to market it will give Sony a huge leg up in delivering an experience that Xbox can’t hope to match.

And while Playstation Now might not be hardware, the ability to rent PS3 and stream PS3 games isn’t all that bad either. This concept of a broader Playstation brand is in its infancy, but grabbing a PS4 now would give you a chance to watch it evolve.

Momentum:
No two ways about it: so far, the PS4 has an impressive lead in the console war. While that hasn’t translated to any gigantic gaps in third-party titles yet, it definitely could if the sales remain as lopsided as they have. From a developer’s perspective, it just makes more sense to put time and effort into the system with the higher install base, and that means that not only do we get better versions of third-party games, we might be seeing a whole lot more third-party exclusives from small and large developers alike. Not only that, but more PS4s out in the wild means a higher chance that you’ve got friends playing on PSN.

Xbox One may yet pick up steam, but PS4 is a safer bet right now. Nothing wrong with a little bandwagoning.

Social Features:
The Ps4 has that little share button right on its controller for a reason. Between Twitch, Facebook, and whatever else, the ability to share and watch video game content has become hugely important for a large number of gamers, and Sony’s machine is the place to be for that. Not only are social features easy to use, intuitive and wide-reaching, the larger install base means that you’ve just got more people available to watch and be watched by.

SharePlay also fits in here: the ability to let your friends play games with you on their own PS4s, whether or not they have the actual game. How cool is that?

I'm torn between getting an Xbox one and the ps4

The xbone is going for a very cheap price and it comes complete with the Kinect and headphones and extra pad and forza (1 CD)

The ps4 is a bit more expensive, comes with an extra pad ,no earpiece or Kinect,no CD

Not that it doesn't mean anything but this whole 1080p thing has been completely over-rated. We are focusing completely on the wrong thing. Videos have shown games side by side of Xbox360, Xbox One, PS3 & PS4 games, and there has only been a slight jump on many of them. So the main thing that matters is things like framerate. IMO we started going down this wrong route with companies like Apple where its all about numbers and image. For example, it was one thing when phones were really large. But after a certain point a thin phone is a thin phone. So if the phone is .3mm thin, and someone else argues that their phone is .2999mm thin, does it really matter? Same thing when the phone gets so light that its 1.2 ounces in weight and another phone comes out that is 1.19 ounces in weight. Is it THAT much of a difference? Did you even know the difference? A perfect example of this is how Sony ended up getting sued for the last Killzone game to not even really be 1080p. People didn't even noticed till someone actually checked and told them.

What would matter more would be a phone that had more memory to hold more of my music, apps, & games. What would matter more would be if the phone had longer battery life. These are tangible things that make a noticeable difference.

IMO what matters most with these new systems would have been exclusives and features. With Xbox One having Kinect there are a LOT of features Microsoft could have focused on that were NOT available on the PS4. Instead, they have all but abandoned there only true advantage and now only have a system slightly less powerful than the PS4 where people can only focus on the fact that theirs games don't hit 1080p as much as their PS4 counterpart.
