FG Signs Mou With Chinese Companies On Power Transmission by iwaeda: 7:33am On Jan 15, 2015
DETERMINED to correct weak capacity of transmission in the Nigerian electricity value chain, Minister of Power, Professor Chinedu Nebo, has tasked the Chinese companies to fill in the gap, so as to boost the nation’s capacity to wheel generated power to end users.

The minister, at the signing of memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Chinese companies, identified the critical role of transmission, saying that it was needless if generated power could not be used.

While calling for more foreign investment, the minister identified the Chinese as special people that had capacity to identify opportunities, “little wonder that China is doing so well with us in the sector.”

According to him, “we will continue to support and defend your interests and investments here,” but he requested the Chinese to do even more in terms of investing in the sector, adding that in the area of renewable energy, a lot of opportunities still existed.

Professor Nebo counselled the Chinese to build synergy with distribution and generation companies, as they could build mutual relationship in the area of embedded or generated power within a locality and get such distributed through the distribution companies in the area.

Speaking after the signing ceremony, Mariam Olusola Akomode, chairperson of Cartlark International, assured the minister that the company would move along with the transformation agenda of the administration.

“For a country like Nigeria that is in a hurry to develop its critical infrastructure, the private-public partnership (PPP) model is a viable option,” adding that its company would explore PPP to finance its transmission projects as planned.

Representatives of SinoHydro Nigeria, Gan Yongzhi, said his company was ready to promote the project in line with the agreement signed, assuring that the project would be realised on record time.

Just hope that this translates to steady power supply in the nearest future. Infact, such news should be left untold until we start ripping d benefits of these MOUs cos we don hear all this kind story since 1998 yet no tangible benefits.

Meanwhile............

GEJ until Buhari make five credits

That's nice...but generation, is still the issue.

Nigeria needs...

1. Six nuclear power plants.

2.Ten coal fired plants

3.Twelve Hydro-electric power plants.

4.A joint project with Niger Republic to build solar farms in the Sahara.Could be a joint ECOWAS project.

They keep signing MoUs and exchanging handshakes yet no improvement. This will be like the 88th MoU on power signed by this administration alone. I hope they try something with the less than 5 months at their disposal. Though Jonathan is out of goodluck
