What Will Happen If Buhari Becomes President? by BizBooks(m): 3:08pm On Jan 16, 2015
Before now, I had assumed Buhari will clearly lose the upcoming presidential election
just as he did in 2007 and 2011. But recent events had caused me to think twice. You
see, Nigeria has been in the news a lot here in the US lately. The discussions generally
center around Boko Haram, falling oil prices and the presidential elections. The intriguing
point is that several American political analysts believe that the election will be close
(meaning anybody can win).

If they are right (and let’s assume they are), that means that Buhari could become Nigeria’s
next president. We all know what will happen if Buhari loses. If past were prologue, he will
complain that the election was rigged, reject the results, threaten to go to court and soon
after fade into oblivion until 2019 (or whenever the next presidential election will be held).
But let’s pause for a moment and consider what could happen if he actually wins?

1. Will he rule as a civilian or as a military officer (which he is by training)?
2. Will he solve the Boko Haram crisis?
3. Will he bring an end to corruption?
4. Will he bring an end to poverty and youth unemployment?
5. Will he bring back the war against indiscipline?
6. Will he improve the falling value of the Naira?
7. Will he improve the falling price of oil?
8. Will he reverse the ban on importation of tokunbo cars?
9. Will he clamp down on the freedom of the press?
10. Will he make Fashola the Minister of Finance?
11. Will he seek to impose his religion on the country?
12. Will he bring back the Chibok girls?
13. At 72, will he have the energy to serve for 4 years and beyond?

I’m sure there are many other questions to ask Buhari and his supporters.
Feel free to add yours.

1. He will lead as President
2. BH will be a thing of the past
3. Absolutely, he will contain corruption and bring perpetrators to justice while tightening every loosed hole.
4. Poverty and Unemployment rate will be reduced. The Government will not only create job, it will also create conducive environment for business to move.
5. WAI is a welcome development. However, rather than flogging, a more civil way will be implemented to ensure that Nigerians keeps to law and order, which is a welcome development.
6. He may not be able to influence the price of oil, but he we will generate more revenue from sales of crude oil due to transparency and containment to oil bunkering where Nigeria loses 400,000 barrels daily.
7. Naira will add in value under Muhammadu Buhari as the government will employ and maintain sound fiscal discipline, curb executive indiscipline, promote the manufacturing and other sectors of the economy as well as ensure that the CBN's monetary policy is in tandem with the law and the interest of the public.
8. Personally, I want the ban on importation upheld. We need to promote the manufacturing sector, which will greatly help the economy.
9. He did not clampdown on press freedom, his time as HoS only made false reportage punishable. The constitution punishes libel and slander, whoever publish false article will explain to the judge according to our relevant laws. Hence, journalists whould carry-out their job function ethically.
10. Fashola isn't qualified professionally to Head the Finance Ministry. That position calls for a brilliant Accountant, Economist or somebody in the Finance field.
11. He never imposed any religion as HoS, he never did it in every capacity he served, he won't do it. He isn't a fanatic, no proof link him to fanaticism. He's a committed muslim just like I am a committed Christian. He separates governance from religion.
12. Right niw we don't know the fate of the girls, but he will get to the root of it and bring them back if they are still alive.
13. Mandela was elected when he was 74, a 72 years old administrator can even function for 2 terms as long as his mind carries him. Administration is not a wrestling contest.

Nigeria just needs a change. We're tired of the same looting and impunity PDP is known for. If he doesn't give us the change we need, Nigerians will kick him out. Hopefully, we'll have a better candidate to take us further down the road of change

How?
His antecedents testify to that. As GOC, he chased out invading chadians even beyond the Nigeria borders. As HoS he contained Maitatsine Insurgents excellently. Maitatsine is the grandfather of Boko-Haram. They Hold same ideology, in fact, Maitatsine was more radical in their system. BH is just a rag-tag group that any serious leader should wipe out within few weeks

My brother, you cannot compare Maitatsine with Boko Haram. Maitatsine fought
with knives and bows & arrows. Boko Haram are currently fighting with machine
guns, Rocket Propelled Grenades and Anti-Aircraft missiles.

Moreover, in the 80s, the north had a Sultan who they listen to. Now, they don't.
It was essentially the Sultan of Sokoto who called off the Maitatsine fighters.

You obviously need to read history. Maitatsine fought with GUNS
They listened to NO ONE
He even proclaimed some Sheikhs and emirs as infidels
