The Nigeria Railway Corporation, NRC has taken delivery of five additional 68-seater air conditioned coaches, two 16-seater rail buses and eighteen 5-seater Motorised Trolleys.
Addressing journalists in Lagos while conducting final inspection on the new railway vehicles, the Managing Director, Nigeria Railway Corporation, Engineer Adeseyi Sijuade said that “the new coaches will be deployed over the next two weeks on an extension of the train service from Makurdi to Gombe passing through Lafia, Kanfanchan, Kuru, Jos, Bauchi and with a spur line from Kanfanchan to Kaduna.”

He disclosed that “while the two new rail buses will be deployed for inspection of certain parts of the rail network, the eighteen motorized trolleys will be allocated to railway maintenance engineers to facilitate regular inspection and maintenance of the tracks.”

Recall that the Corporation had in April, 2014 commissioned the first set of 68-seater passenger coaches, six in number, bringing the total number of 68-seater air conditioned coaches added to the corporation’s fleet to eleven.

Sijuade told journalists that the railway vehicles were designed and manufactured in China specifically for the Corporation’s narrow gauge railway system by CSR Nanjing Puzhen Company Ltd., and Kintech Nigeria Ltd.
According to him, the newly acquired air conditioned coaches have been tested satisfactorily in the Corporation’s Lagos workshops and are now being deployed for commissioning.

He said: “We spent the whole weekend testing the whole appliances within these five coaches. These include the air conditioning, the automatic dust system and the passenger information system etc. They have all been tested satisfactorily. We are deploying them to the Eastern line.”
“However, for the commissioning purpose, we are deploying them to the Makurdi Railway station, where it will be commissioned on Thursday, 22nd January. The commissioning will be taking place along with the flagging off of the intercity passenger service that runs from Makurdi to Port Harcourt. As a matter of fact, the trains will be moving from Makurdi, following the flag off, to Port Harcourt,” he added.

It is only in Nigeria purchase of a train coach makes national headline. This is the level to which Jonathan has taken Nigeria. Pray, how much did this cost us?

Correct person! No wonder you are an eagle which soars higher unlike the others who are APChickens.
G for good luck(goodluck to nigerians)
E for eagle (destined to soar higher than its enemies)
J for joy (joy to nigerians)

G for gullible
M for murderer
B for badluck
Chai!!! There is GOD O

Goodluck is a victor! He fought ebola to the extent a whole "America" sent their dtroops to LEARN from Nigeria on how Nigeria conquered it. It couldn't have happened in 1983 as the whole Nigeria would have been WIPED OUT! Should we blame him sef? "Common WAEC him no get"

We don't want the master destroyer to come and destroy the progress that is being recorded in Nigeria under the leadership of GEJ, this is one of the reasons we should join hands and return him. Say no to dictatorship say no to Buhari, Say no to a man that claim he is fighting kwurupsion and at the same time twisting the law to favour him.

what are you saying now?

this is what Nigeria is, until we decentralize the top and allow states to develop themselves, Nigerians will keep judging a president based on things like Roads, hospitals, rails, schools as against policies that really changed things...

thats why the kind of change i want to see is a change of the entire system and not just change of government. otherwise 4 years from now Nigerians will be looking at how many roads, schools etc were built by a President.

No sir. This is the level Buhari, Obasanjo, Babangida and other past rulers have taken us. Nigeria did not build 1 additional kilometer of rail line since 1947. Under theses evil past leaders a generation of Nigerians came of age and never saw a moving train in their life. That is why this has become a BIG DEAL.

Nice development, to me it seem like an election campaign of the highest order.
Nigeria problem as a whole is just maintenance, give the whole matter few years now story don enter, na then we go hear they sold the railway coporation, NEPA Gone, NITEL Gone, and so on...
Now they think alongside with the world that train as a mode of transport is cheap running less than 1k for a trip now,
Make Feb 14th, pass na then the price would be compared to the one of a car transport.

All the same nice development of a maybe repainted train from the other part of the world....
