Whether active or retired, these players have done enough to be remembered for their touches on the ball, impact in a team and effect on the pitch but have not been sung as the heroes they are.

There are players who passed the football with so many memories that they have implanted into the minds of fans and followers.
Whether active or retired, these players have done enough to be remembered for their touches on the ball, impact in a team and effect on the pitch.

They, however, have either not been celebrated like they should or they have just been overlooked by the media, big clubs and different football associations.
Top on the list;

-Austin Jay Jay Okocha: Mercurial Nigerian midfielder and two-time BBC African footballer of the year. He was the one time most expensive African footballer in the world when he moved to PSG for $18m. Sadly, Okocha never got to play for any of Europe’s top clubs, much more be nominated for the FIFA player award. He also was overlooked in all CAF footballer awards.

-Paul Scholes: Known for his combative style of pay in the middle of the pack for Manchester United and England, Scholes never got the headliners he deserved from the English press. His profile at both national and club levels was overridden by the exploits of David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo and Michael Owen, Rooney etc.

-Juninho Pernambucano: the freekick expert, Juninho held it down French club, Lyon in their glorious days of seven consecutive league titles from 2001 to 2008 and then helping Brazil to the 2002 World Cup. He however has been denied a place in World football history.

-Michael Laudrup: This 50 year-old retired Danish footballer is one of the few footballers to win league titles in three associations. He won league titles with Ajax, Barcelona, RealMadrid and Juventus. Most honours that have been awarded him are from his country home, Denmark where he is a knight and was chosen as the Golden player of Denmark by the Danish football Association.

-Luis Enrique: The current Barcelona coach was part of the club’s historic period before the renaissance by DutchmanFrank Rijkaard. Known better as a right or attacking midfielder, the Spaniard played in all position except being a goalkeeper and a defender.

-Gaizka Mendieta: Versatile Spanish midfielder, with good offensive and tackling skills, capable of creating goal scoring opportunities, he spent most of his career at Valencia, becoming one of the few loyal Spanish faithfuls. He only left the Spanish club for Middlesborough in 2004 where he retired.

-Gilberto Silva: the humble and hard-working type, Silva’s rank grew from being just a street footballer to a World champion in 2002 and part of the Arsenal Invincible team of 2003/2004 season. The 38 year-old is hardly mentioned.

-Robert Prosinečki: regarded as the player with best technique that ever played in and for Croatia, he is hardly mentioned for his excellence on the pitch and ability to keep possession of the ball, not even has he been heard of in any of Real Madrid or Barcelona news. He is one of the few to have played for both Spanish giants.

-Zvonimir Boban: Prosinecki’s teammate, Boban won fourSerie A titles with AC Milan and a UEFA Champions League title. He was captain of the Croatian Dragons who won Bronze at France 98

-Franck Ribery: otherwise known as Yusuf Bilal Mohammed, the Frenchman who does most of everything from the middle for both the French team and Bayern Munich. He came third at the 2013 FIFA Ballon D’Or and that has been the major recognition for him since then.
