Equatorial Guinea Fined $100,000 For Crowd Misconducts by succyreal(m): 6:31pm On Feb 07, 2015 |
Africa Cup of Nations hosts Equatorial Guinea have been fined $ 100,000 and escaped having a third-placed match against DR Congo today(7/2/2015) played behind closed doors after crowd trouble in a semi-final against Ghana. Several Ghana fans were injured after rival supporters attacked them with the Black Stars leading 3-0 and with less than 10 minutes to the end of Thursday’s Africa Cup semi-final. The game was only restarted after a 35-minute delay as anti-riot police were forced to evacuate fans from the 15,000-capacity Estadio de Malabo. Besides the fine, the CAF disciplinary committee on Friday announced it will allow for a third- placed match between Equatorial Guinea and DRC to be played with fans “to promote a spirit of fair play and brotherhood in the AFCON 2015”. However, if there is another crowd trouble, Equatorial Guinea will play their next home game behind closed doors. The host nation will also pay for the treatment of the injured Ghana fans. |
