FC Porto striker ’Jackson Martinez’ obviously admitted that
he
will leave the Portuguese club at the end of the season and
is keen for a move to Arsenal rather than any of their
Premier League rivals, reports the Express. The 28-year-
old has managed to score five Champions League goals in
the group stages this season, which has helped Julen
Lopetegui’s side progress to the knock-out stages and his
future at the club is in doubts.
The Colombian striker has been impressive with a total of
85 goals in 122 appearances for the Portuguese outfit. A
huge £32 million release clause in his contract is the main
issue and a fee higher than that would be required to
acquire his services, as reported by the newspaper.
Arsene Wenger recently admitted that he believes Martinez
has the ability to play in England’s top tier, which could
have impacted the forward’s choice in regards to his
preferred destination. Thought it would be tough to find a
role for the striker in this current Arsenal lineup with so
many big names, Wenger would never refuse such a highly
talented player.
In an interview, Martinez told reporters, “Players develop
well in Portugal, and I thank the club for making me the
player I am today. However, it’s time for a new adventure,
to grow from a professional point of view.”
